I loved reading the reviews of this lovely movie. Its a quaint, almost old fashioned film. The kind of film you loved with people like Cary Grant and Doris Day etc. Its genuinely funny. The chemistry with Martin and Hawn is perfect and its a pity they did not do more together. Goldie is a great talent and you really find her so adorable. Steve Martin needs a good actor to bounce off. I always preferred him in stand up but in this with Goldie he is wonderful. The chemistry between Martin and Goldie has not been repeated and thats a shame. Its very rare to find it in a modern film. There is one scene I find hilarious. I laugh myself silly every time I see it and thats the scene when Martin sings for the old soldier "Tooraloohraloora". I don't know why I find it so funny but I think its one of my favourite moments in a film. I wont explain the details as it would ruin it for people who have not seen the film but its side splitingly funny. There are plenty of nice moments in the film. Oh and I LOVE the house!!
It's truly refreshing to see an intelligent movie with so much crap coming out of Hollywood these days. The fact that this was released in 1992 does not say much about what Hollywood has produced since.
I've always loved Steve Martin. I think he's one of the most underrated actors in the past 30yrs. Sure he's not been in a million pictures, but the old adage sticks; quality, not quantity. Goldie Hawn is one of the most honest and lovely actresses to grace the silver screen. This movie would pale in comparison if these two actors were not involved. They deliver the goods in more ways than one.
Beyond Martin and Hawn, this picture is special for it's writing. Mark Stein should be patted on the back and then some. Wow, is all I have to say. You can tell how much thought was put into every scene by the "believable" detail that's generously provided throughout the entire movie. The intricate interplay and "make believe" between Martin and Hawn is nothing short of genius.
Feel good movie? Check. Intelligent, funny? Check. Worth a watch? Absolutely!

If you like Steven Martin and/or Goldie Hawn, then this film is a "must see"! Both their characters are very typical them, and together they are dynamite.
I started laughing early in the film, and kept on laughing to the very end! The ending was a bit surprising, but good!
Peter MacNicol's character was a bit too similar to "John Cage" in the TV series "Ally McBeal". Of course without Biscuit's "special features". But since he has only a small part in this film, it doesen't spoil it.
My only question was: How could he afford it???

Totally hilarious comedy with the adorable Goldie superbly playing a con artist who b.s.'s her way into the lives of a group of complete strangers, upsetting the existence of many and enriching others. One of Goldie's and Martin's best.
This film is well known, and I've read many comments on it. Some loves it, some does not, as usual. I think I depends on what you are looking for. This is in my opinion one of the best comedy of the last 20 years, light, funny, sincere. Hawn and Martin gave their best performance. (Moreover Hawn is so charming!) I keep this film on the shelf with Wilder's Apartment, Reiner's When Harry met Sally, etc. Enjoy it!

- WissenswertesThe house was built as a standing set in Concord, Massachusetts. It was torn down soon after filming ended.
- PatzerAbout 37 mins in, when Steve Martin falls over the couch and hits his feet on the table, Goldie Hawn briefly grimaces and looks at the crew possibly expecting a 'cut' before the scene continues as scripted.
- Zitate
Newton Davis: Half the things we tell ourselves are fiction.
- Crazy CreditsWhen the title is shown in the opening credits, there's a red ribbon underneath the title that ties itself into a bow.
