The woman who played the lead, and romance target, is grossly miscast! She is way too old for this part! I mean WHO in their right mind, what kind of casting director would choose HER?? She not only looks like she's pushed past 50, she is beyond atrocious as an actress. Not only is she unsightly, she has the charisma of used motor oil. She has the worst hair in ANY production ever. Terrible makeup and hideous clothing means I don't have the suspension of disbelief required to think that a man like Mark would ever fall for her...twice!
Speaking of whom, Simon MacCorkindale was one heck of an actor! If you've liked some of his other stuff, he is the only reason to watch this. And he still had his natural blond hair here (goodness knows why he felt the need to dye it black, as many actors since have done the same and completely ruined their looks and charisma in the process: Leo DiCaprio, I'm pointing atchu, boy!) The only reason to watch this is an exercise in acting: McCorkindale is acting for 2 here. He brings the charm, the charisma and he makes you believe that he needs glasses because...what could he possibly see in that inane woman?! BUT he pulls it off. (It was also fascinating to me to see how he maintained character. I kept thinking if he'd rolled his eyes, acted like he was smelling Swedish canned fish or pulled away when she went to kiss him, I couldn't have blamed him. But nope: he looked at her like she was the love of his life!)
Sadly, the material is so bad, the writing so atrocious, the story so nonsensical, and the production values (lighting, direction, camera angles, editing etc.) so poor, that not only him can save this schlock! Did anybody else see what I saw?? There is a ruse going on; his Mark is clueless. Suddenly, he does a double-take and the camera zooms in on him, as he smirks! Oh, boy: he's on to her! (Necessary movie twist.) So everything he does and says to her, bringing up the previous woman he was dating, all that moves the story along, and now you need to watch to see how it's gonna play out. Surely the power play has switched, the balance has shifted.
As if the production had amnesia, all the scripts had burned and no one could remember what they'd filmed, suddenly, the movie takes a turn for the worse! Said scene is forgotten, as if it'd never happened, the actors don't say anything and the character does a 180 and nothing makes sense.
Not only that, it turns his character into a callous fool, who'll fall for or sleep with any woman that's nearby. Really, really weird. How this has a 6.2/10 baffles the mind, other than females over-rating it for his performance only.
If only they'd cast a pretty woman in her mid-20s. Why did they have to choose a below average one that looks 48-53?? So Simon MacCorkindale had the burden of making us believe she was hotter than Paulina Porizkova (the hit model of that era). Very hard to buy, no matter how convincing his acting was.
Also why would he fall for THAT woman? The first one is a thief, (WHY would he bring that one back to his house? Unconvincing, inane script!) the second one is affected, hideous, a bad dresser and full of herself, the third one has the worst hairstyle ever, is mousey looking and acting and as attractive as the backside of my refrigerator, the one with the coils that's smack against the wall.
If you're a fan of Simon MC, be aware of how bad this is. There's one cheesy scene with him at the restaurant. Can't help but feel beyond embarrassed for the guy, but then he probably collected a nice payoff, so good for him. It truly is atrocious, but Simon never phoned it in, credit to his talent and loyalty to his craft. Not his fault: 3/10 is the best I could give this witless film!
