Ji hap chong see: Gung sam

THE FINAL JUDGEMENT is a courtroom drama from Hong Kong that manages to pack in about half a dozen tonal shifts in the course of its running time. It has sleazy crime elements, police procedural investigation scenes, overwrought melodrama and some amusing courtroom moments to boot. The end result is a film that feels all over the place and wild at times. Simon Yam plays a guy wrongfully accused of murder, similar to Hitch's THE WRONG MAN, and the film charts the consequences both on him and wife Cecilia Yip, who has a young daughter in tow. This is a notably well-cast movie, featuring supporting roles for Bill Tung and Paul Chan, and it's based on a true story as well, but in the end it's a bit too low budget to be properly successful. Those Aussies in the cast are hilarious!

Final Judgement (1993) stars Hong Kong's favorite tragic-couple Simon Yam and Cecilla Yip. Simon Yam plays a hard working family man who's life is turned upside down one fateful night when he's accused of a horrific rape and murder of a young woman. After a well publicized trial and with the prosecution using scientific evidence, Simon Yam is sent off to the big house. But wait, that's just the beginning! Cecilla Yip plays his faithful wife who'll do anything to see her husband released from prison. Is he guilty or innocent? You decide!!

Bill Tung co-stars as a retired police inspector puzzled by the case, Esther Kwan (with horn rim glasses) as a reporter who's doing a magazine article on the case and Paul Chiang (a.k.a. Paul Chu, Chun Pei) as a famous defense lawyer who agree's to help Tung with her case. Great film but depressing film.

Highly recommended.
