Chuang xie xian sheng

This is a ghost comedy from director Wong Jing, where Riley (Kenny Bee) has been cursed by the ghost of an evil warlock, as revenge against Riley father who allegedly was responsible for the warlock's death years ago. Therefore, Riley's mother (Pik-Wan Tang) will go through anything to save him.

The ghost possession and warlord's ghost plot is very intriguing and suspenseful, reminding you that an evil presence is out to cause havoc to Riley as he tries to go about his life. Carol 'Do Do' Cheng plays Tseng Hsiao-Yu, a woman caught in the path of the ghostly presence and later becomes Riley's love interest.

The romance subplot is sweet and somewhat comical, but I thought it takes a little too much away from the main suspenseful ghost plot. But, it's still an entertaining movie, with a well-known Hong Kong cast including Chan Pak-Cheung, Wong Jing, Chingmy Yau and Tang Pik-Wan. All provided great screen presence in their humor and drama, with a little bit of slapstick comedy and action thrown in.

Mr. Possessed (1988) was another one of Wong Jing's ghost comedies. Carol Cheng stars as a lonely woman who finally finds the perfect man Kenny Bee). But nothing is ever at it seems, especially in a Wong Jing film. Soon, the poor guy is begins to act strange and spouts off even stranger dialog. What is a love struck woman going to do? Who will she turn to in her time of need? How will she get her new love the help he needs? To find out you'll have to search high and low for a copy of the rare Wong Jing films. It'll either scare you or make you laugh your socks off! Co-stars Chingmy Yau, Francis Ng and Wong Jing.

Highly recommended.

This is a decent HK slapstick comedy, starring one of my favorite comediennes, Carol Cheng. It's not a great movie by any standards, but it rises above average thanks to its two charming leads - Carol and Kenny Bee - and its supporting cast, which includes perpetual "mo lei tau" staple, Chan Pak Cheung (Chen Bai Xiang).

The story is nothing to marvel about, but it's coherent enough, and the cast quite ably carries it along well enough so that I didn't pause to consider how stupid it is. And at least there are a couple of funny scenes that stick to mind, including the one where the then-young and nubile Carol teaches aerobics and the one where Kenny demonstrates why he can't be near women.
