Drzwi w murze

I think that "Drzwi w murze" (Door in the wall) is a very interesting film that is also unique in terms of the cinema of the Polish People's Republic era. For one, it is very universal and addresses problems that are not specific to any country. Secondly, it is the work of Stanislaw Rozewicz, who is considered one of the most outstanding writers of post-war Poland. The plot takes place in Gdansk. Playwright Wiktor (Zbigniew Zapasiewicz) oversees preparations for a play based on his novel. He rents a room in the apartment of Krystyna (Wanda Neumann) and her mentally ill mother (Ryszarda Hanin). Wiktor and Krystyna become lovers, but can they overcome their daily routine and change their lives? We also have a great symbolic subplot about staging Wiktor's novel in which the director and actors have no idea how to do it. This opens a way to many interpretations and gives the film some philosophical undertones too. The plot kept me interested, and I felt a sympathy for the main characters because they were dealing with some real problems. The acting was also good. Zbigniew Zapasiewicz was at his best playing the role of an introverted intellectual, and Ryszarda Hanin gave a very convincing picture of a mentally disturbed person. So I think that " Door in the wall" is worth watching today.
