Fei xia xiao bai long

One of the best Kung Fu movies ever made. I remember this movie from when I was a kid. It is your classic solo-hero movie where the White Dragon as he is called helps people that are being harassed by this war lord. He uses many techniques and weapons to fight each of the men the war lord send after him. The movie ends with the White Dragon slightly injured (I believe a cut in his side) hold up in a house in the desert and about 20 war lord thugs waiting for him outside. So what does he do? He goes out and gives them all a little woop ass!!! One of the best 20 against 1 Kung Ku scenes I have ever seen. Not one of those "12 inch away punches and kick" but a really well made scene. His weapon of choice for most of his fights scenes is the Bamboo Spear and man can he handle it. I wish I could get my hands on a copy of this movie!!!!

I agree with Q SPAWN Q - this is one GREAT Kung Fu flick.

What really stands out is that the "White Dragon" is not so heroic. He actually is a bit of a jerk in some ways, and subtly conceited. in the end he does the right thing, but not for the "right" reasons. In fact this guy is more 'dragon' in how he behaves than 'human'. But lest you start thinking "CHEESY" he actually underplays it and in doing so makes one of the best antiheroes I can think of. He "out-Snakes" Russell's Plissken (and I REALLY like EfNY).

He uses his spear in ways that are nothing less than phenomenal. The "big fight" at the end is intelligent and creative without getting comic book.

Don't get me wrong - this is just one more of the grindhouse Kung Fu flicks of its day. What makes it so memorable for me is the well written, well acted character of the White Dragon and the creative and intelligent fight scenes.

Well worth catching if you can.

And I, too, wish I could own this one on DVD!

I think the film both reviewers are actually thinking of is a Jimmy Wang Yu 1971 film called "Blood of the Dragon" in which Wang Yu's character is called the White Dragon. I own this film and can agree that it is everything the reviewers are claiming. It is easily one of better Kung-Fu films of the early 70's.

This film "The White Dragon" is something completely different and I am interested in finding it as I am an avid Kung-Fu collector. I am intrigued as this would easily be one of David Chiang's earliest works. I was under the impression that he was mostly a stuntman until Wang Yu left the Shaw Brothers Studios in 1969 and that's when he started getting starring roles in films like Vengeance (1970) playing mostly small roles prior.
