Diese Liebe muß man töten

I saw "Trzeba zabic te milosc" (You have to kill this love) for the first time when I was still a teenager myself, and the film appealed to me right from the start. The plot is of the spontaneous love between two high school graduates-a sensible and responsible girl and a weak, reckless boy. To me the story is universal, because young people often think that they are made for one another, but later on, after growing more mature, they find out that their characters are not compatible. So this is the first dimension of this film. The second dimension is that it is a certain document of the early 1970s. The beginning of the era of consumerism in Poland. We can see what people looked like then, what they thought, and what their desires were. What the street, houses, and cars looked like. And we find out that the problems and aspirations today and then were similar, which adds to the value of this movie. "Trzeba zabic te milosc" is also worth remembering because of the outstanding performance of then young actress Jadwiga Jankowska-Cieslak. As far as I can remember, the film was at that time praised by the critics and won some awards. Martin Scorsese considered it to be the Polish masterpiece too, which may be one more reason to watch it again.
