Sweet Georgia

First, let me say that I don't mind smut - in fact, that's what I was looking for when I popped this into my VCR. Great way to blow that mood...

The pacing is excruciating - as if the director knew he had only 15 minutes of script, but 90 minutes of film to use up before it hit expiration date. The 90 seconds of Georgia getting a drink at the sink was a perfect example.

The camera-work was ... well, amazing. I have no idea how this person ever got work in the film industry. Shaky, out-of-focus shots interspersed with fascinating views of a cave wall. Hours (well, it seemed that way) of a tiny speck in the distance looking something like a woman riding a horse. Personally, I wouldn't trust this cameraman to film their own home movies.

Characterization, plot, dialog - all well within reasonable expectations for a 4th grade media class.

Even the nudity was disappointing. Avoid this turkey at all costs.

Sweet Georgia (1972)

Georgia (Marsha Jordan) is a big-breasted woman who is constantly in need of sexual bliss and she's take it from pretty much anyone except her drunk husband. Pretty soon she starts to get a thing for her sweet virgin step-daughter Virginia (Barbara Mills).

SWEET GEORGIA is Southern-friend sexploitation but it really isn't all that entertaining. The film clocks in at 79-minutes, which is about 59-minutes too long as there's really not much of a story going on here. Of course, one could argue that these sexploitation movies didn't need any sort of story as long as they delivered the goods. The goods here of course would be nudity and there's plenty of that but certainly this wasn't enough to keep you glued into the picture.

This here gave Jordan one more chance at a major role and she does the most with it. Even though this happened towards the end of her career, Jordan was still incredibly beautiful and there's no question that this was a role she could do justice. Playing a sex-fiend was something she did quite well and there's no question looking at her frolic around naked was a major plus. With that said, it's Mills that really stands out here. She doesn't get to speak too much but she certainly had a presence that just leaped off the screen. Gene Drew was also fun as the drunken husband.

SWEET GEORGIA might appeal to those who will watch any type of sexploitation film but if you're new to the genre then it's best to start with something better.

Novak had something here but just couldn't get it to click. Stag film regular Marsha Jordan plays Sweet Georgia, a manipulative Nymphomaniac that will have sex with just about anyone, except her fat, dumb, drunk husband.

The story surrounding these people would be interesting with a little better execution. Jordan is the star but is forced to carry the film farther then her star-power could handle. Barbara Mills as the step-daughter was just plain bad and the male supports, with the exception of Gene Drew as "Big T," were just reciting lines to the best of their ability. Had Novak just played this as a sexploitation project, they might have pulled it off. Jordan plays the manipulative woman very well but we don't care about her victims enough to root for her downfall. The ending is NEVER hinted at and seemed tacked on to make the audience reel-back in revulsion or hurl. Shorter (and better) sex scenes coupled with a bit more character development and this could be a gem of a direct-to-video sexploiter or 2:00 a.m. feature on Cinemax. But until then, leave this on the shelf and rent "Femalien" instead.

Smut in the wild west (in the same vein as "Ramrodder" and "Brand of Shame") released by one of the masters of the age Harry Novak.

Georgia is a nymphomaniac and nothing can sate her need for lust and carnal passions, and she is not to choosy on who she couples with, be it a big lunk head ranch hand, her step-daughter or anyone she can get her paws on.

But of course her lusty ways get her into trouble, deep dark trouble and soon enough her words "Shut up and Lay me" come back to haunt her.

A "Boxoffice International" release that is well worth the trouble of tracking down
