NICE AND EXOTIC

Nice, exotic and colourful escapism with O.W. Fischer as the right choice for Peter Voss. It could have been faster paced and it has a slow start; this is compensated by all the locations (Rio de Janeiro, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Portugal etc), the silly but enjoyable story (in this version extended) and the beautiful women. There is one problem with the logic of this version: the real identity of Van Zanten could have been established long before Peter Voss arrives at Hong Kong.

Compared to the Peter Voss of 1946 it has more style and maybe elegance, but the Bobby Dodd here played by Walter Giller is no match for the splendid one played by Karl Schönbock. While in the 1946 version Peter Voss starts as a bank clerk, in this version he is already a swinger. All in all, this version is a O.W. Fischer vehicle and the 1946 version a film for the whole cast. Boy Gobert has a very funny cameo as a matador afraid of flying. In short: good fun.
