Anna Marie Baumann in Rare film.

This movie is on Y/T as GIOVANI MARITI. Anna Marie Baumann uses the name Anna Maria Guarnieri in the French version of the movie. Also, she is "featured" in the poster at the top of this page. In the Yellow dress. The movie is enjoyable. Larry Anderson.

More Italian alientation.

Bolognini was into these lost nights movies - "Notte Brava" is another one - but this could have been made by any of the emerging Italian directors. Good looking young performers contribute the main interest. Attempts at atmospheric staging don't really work, as where Blain meets Lualdi under the (bad continuity) rain where she is protected by her white umbrella.

Brass dominant scoring is interesting and the images are good. The commentary on Italian marriage is curious but we've seen it too often in other Italian movies.

Director Mauro Bolognini, in an interview with French journalist Jean Gilli, from 1977, states that in the early years of his partnership with Pier Paolo Pasolini, he faced a certain hostility on the part of producers and fellow directors. Take the opening night of "Giovani Mariti" as an example, at the end of which no applause was heard and everyone avoided talking to him. Only Federico Fellini asked him "But why do you do these things?". Gradually, he realized that what bothered everyone was the dialogues written by Pasolini. It was then that he decided to continue the partnership.
