The Strokes: Reptilia

To me "Reptilia" is already a classic of the 21t Century, both song and video. Jake Scott didn't need much to presents a powerful performance from The Strokes, it's a concept used time and again of showing each member of the band in close-up and static shots but there's always something unique to it that makes a case for a great music video. At times, it feels like "The Perfect Kiss" by New Order which was directed by Jonathan Demme, but in this case there are more cuts and more expressions coming from lead singer Julian Casablancas, the higher the song and his voice gets the most furious and intense his voice is presented. At other times, there are close-ups from Fabrizio's All-Stars sneakers hitting the drums pedals; or the movements from the guitarrists.

An important and memorable moment from The Strokes, true contemporary rock n'roll and from there it didn't got much better. In terms of their videos, it's a must-see, just as great as "Hard to Explain", "Heart in a Cage", "12:51", "Last Nite" and most recently "Bad Decisions". The difference here is that they aren't much nostalgic in paying tribute to different eras so it really feels timeless in terms of what we see as the images unfold. The only nostalgia we get from this video is that is a fun trip to the past when videos as such were still simple yet effective and were trendy. I miss those days. 10/10
