The Saints of Augustine

We caught this as part of an online film competition and I was so blown away I had to rate here. A hell of a debut by Kershaw and Marks. The suspense just builds and builds, it's totally unpredictable, and you'll be picking up your jaw from off the floor by the time it ends (a bold and unforgettable ending you won't be able to unsee, by the way). Whatever this pair of directors does next, I'll be more than excited to watch and support

With "The Saints of Augustine", Nolan Marks and Grady Kershaw crafted a unique, tight, suspense thriller that is sure to stay with you long after it ends. The pair not only weave together a captivating story told in a smart way, but tell it with a visual flair unmatched for filmmakers at their level (apparently these guys were just barely out of HIGH SCHOOL when this film was completed). The score and cinematography are so immersive and professionally-executed that you really don't feel as though you're watching a lower-budget film. If I had to nitpick at it, the film's pacing and acting each seemed to really find their footing after the first chapter, but that's just that - a nitpick. Overall, "The Saints of Augustine" left me beaming with excitement for the next generation of cinema, and eager to see what the Marks-Kershaw dynamic duo will go on to create next. If you're lucky enough to get to see this - brace yourselves: these kids know what they're doing. And they're damn good at it.
