With the two continuing to have strong dynamics with the network, Alien: Earth's Noah Hawley and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia's Rob Mac are reportedly teaming for an adaptation of Far Cry. First created by Crytek and since helmed by Ubisoft, the action game franchise puts players in the shoes of different characters fighting for survival in various locales.

Since first teaming with the network for his reimagining of Fargo, Hawley has made a home for himself at FX with a lengthy first-look production deal. In addition to the anthology crime series, the Emmy winner was also behind the acclaimed Marvel series Legion and the newly released Alien: Earthon the network.

Mac, having recently changed his name from McElhenney, similarly first broke out on FX with the acclaimed sitcom It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, which he co-created and co-stars in with his partners Charlie Day and Glenn Howerton.

The running joke in Community is that it’ll get six seasons and a movie.

The show fulfilled that six-season prophecy during its run on NBC from 2009 until 2015.

Fans were very excited to hear that the Community movie was officially announced in 2022, with production expected to start in 2024.

After waiting for almost two years, Pokémon fans can finally start counting down the days until the release of the new episodes of the stop-motion animated series Pokémon Concierge. I love streaming TV, and (for both personal and professional reasons) I have been subscribed to all the major streamers for years, and now I’m going to put that knowledge to good use by breaking down the highs and lows of every streamer’s library.

Apple TV+ is a great place to start because it takes such a different approach to content than its competitors. So, in this article, I’ve broken things down into what Apple TV+ does really well, where I think it could improve, how often new shows actually drop, and how deep the library is. The 2025 Emmy nominations were announced today, and with them came plenty of rage-worthy snubs, The Bear getting comedy noms again and an unsurprising clean sweep from Severance. But while Apple TV+’s crown jewel might be its Sunday-scaries-drama (which picked up 27 nominations), it was far from the only show on the streaming service that received recognition.

Rob McElhenney is making it legal: The “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” and “Welcome to Wrexham” star has legally filed in Los Angeles to change his name to “Rob Mac.” Mac confirmed the news to Variety on Friday; it was first reported by TMZ.

Variety readers won’t be surprised by the news; Mac first revealed the plan in a cover story last month.

At the time, Mac told us he might be changing his name to that easier pronunciation. “People already call me ‘Rob Mac’ or ‘Mac,’ obviously from the TV show. It just makes things so much easier,” he said.

Hemlock Circle Productions Announces The Digital Release Of Summer Camp Horror Film "Marshmallow": "Hemlock Circle Productions, in partnership with Quiver Distribution, has announced that its latest horror sci-fi feature, Marshmallow, will be available to stream on Video On Demand (VOD) starting June 6, 2025.

Directed by Daniel DelPurgatorio and produced by Hemlock Circle, Marshmallow has been received positively by audiences since its debut at this year's Panic Fest, where it was awarded Best of Fest with DelPurgatorio winning Best Director. Game adaptations have been pretty underwhelming for a long time, until recently. Some of them have done a great justice to the original material. A similar story goes on for comic-based adaptations as well, as they had janky beginnings. Take a look at older Marvel movies, before the MCU was a thing. Yeah, you know what’s up.

Coming back to talking about video game adaptations, some were outright outrageous. For instance, Borderlands: The Movie, Hitman: Agent 47, and more. Exclusive: Directorial duo Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (Adil & Bilall) have signed to direct a feature film adaptation of Riders Republic, the award-winning video game from French games giant Ubisoft.

The project, which seeks to bring the spills and thrills of the extreme sports-focused game to the big screen – is being developed and produced by Gaumont and Ubisoft Film & Television. Gaumont’s international sales arm is launching the project in Cannes.

The partners have also signed award-winning writer Noé Debré, whose credits include Cannes Palme d’Or Dheepan, Stillwater and The World Is Yours, for the screenplay adaptation.

Adil & Bilall broke out in their native Belgium in 2018 with hit Gangsta, and then gained international recognition with the third and fourth instalment of the Bad Boys franchise: Bad Boys for Life (2020) and Bad Boys: Ride or Die (2024) which together grossed over $830M at world box office.

With executive producer Ryan Coogler (who also directed the first two "Black Panther" movies) fresh off his bloody vampire masterclass "Sinners" and the MCU itself on the upswing following the emotional gut punch of "Thunderbolts*," the hype train of "Ironheart" is drawn by two capable locomotives ... and that's before you take into account the amount of talent attached. 

Series creator Chinaka Hodge was a staff writer on AMC's dystopian sci-fi train thriller "Snowpiercer." Directing duties of the six-episode series are shared by Sam Bailey and Angela Barnes ("Mythic Quest," "Atlanta.") On the acting front, Thorne has ample backup from the likes of Anthony Ramos and Alden Ehrenreich.

Netflix may have won the streaming wars, but that doesn't mean other platforms didn't emerge as worthy contenders. Case in point: Apple TV+.

This week, Apple TV+ made a lot of exciting renewal announcements for its original series, but one of those announcements made history for the streamer. British comedy series Trying earned a renewal for season 5, which makes the critically acclaimed, fan-favorite series the longest-running comedy series on Apple TV+ in terms of amount of seasons.

With Trying season 5 now confirmed, the comedy has also achieved the ranks of the streamer's longest-running shows overall, matching the likes of For All Mankind, which has been renewed for season 5, and Slow Horses, which has been renewed for seasons 5 and 6. For comedies, Mythic Quest ended with four seasons, as will Acapulco this summer.

Although Mythic Quest’s sudden cancellation — and re-imagined now-series finale — came as a surprise to some fans of the Apple TV+ show, Rob McElhenney might have had a hunch that network higher-ups would demand production “just stop” — to paraphrase his character’s livestream — following Season Four.

McElhenney, who co-created, executive-produced, wrote and starred in the series, recently opened up about revamping the show’s finale, hinting that he and his team may have been prepared to reel that cliffhanger ending back from the edge long before they were given their official walking papers.

“We weren’t 100 percent sure that the show was gonna be coming back,” the sitcom icon explained while attending the Alliance for Children’s Rights Gala with wife and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia co-star, Kaitlin Olson. Considering this uncertainty, McElhenney and the Mythic Quest team added another — non-shovel — tool to their arsenal: an alternate ending.

Most notably, the streamer is home to a myriad of incredible sci-fi shows, all of which are given the time (and budget!) to tell stories both epic and intimate in scope, transporting us to incredible and fully-realized worlds along the way. But that is not all; Apple TV+ has also produced new movies by some of our most celebrated auteur directors, including Ridley Scott and Martin Scorsese.

Now that the streamer has been around for several years, it's begun to develop its own franchises as well. (Such is the way in Hollywood.) "For All Mankind," for example, is getting a spin-off series centered on Roscosmos, the Russian space agency featured in the acclaimed sci-fi show. Meanwhile, the now-canceled "Mythic Quest" has already given rise to one of the platform's most underrated shows.

Trying has officially been renewed for season 5 on Apple TV+. Kicking off in 2020, the show chronicles a couple who, after struggling with infertility, decide to adopt children. In the process, the couple must get their lives together enough to convince the adoption panel that they are ready to be parents. The show was created by Andy Wolton, with Trying featuring a leading cast including Rafe Spall, Esther Smith, Sian Brooke, Oliver Chris, Phil Davis, Darren Boyd, and Ophelia Lovibond. Trying season 4 wrapped up last year in July 2024.

Per Apple, Trying has officially been renewed for season 5. There is not yet a production schedule or any release date information available for the fifth installment.

Apple reported record service-based revenue from its various products, including Apple TV Plus and Apple Music, during the company’s second fiscal quarter on Thursday.

During the three-month period that ended in March, Apple earned nearly $26.7 billion in service-based revenue, up 12 percent compared to Q2 2024 and above Wall Street expectations.
