Ok,if you look,i one star A LOT, so to get SIX stars is like being kissed by a pixie and a leprachaun under a full blue moon. Were there MASSIVE plot holes? (Decrying cameras ON CAMERA,and recruiting the camera resistance on the INTERNET (camera city) for one......the whole "AJ's extra people" subplot, for another ) but ultimately i actually enjoyed this movie. One reviewer cited a scene and called it racist, but it was more "begging for a child's life" (from a non white character threat) than " massa please!!" Btw- cute kid,bad actress though. Waaaaayyy too calm in the face of death.....and the casting for the cops was decent, because last time statistics checked--majority of cops ARE white guys ,so yeah, the cops looked.....cop-y.l,and begging was the appropate reaction to the situation. The endless fake-o latin chanting quickly became annoying, but i stayed intrigued as i wanted to see how it all played out. Was really hoping the world would burn.......didn't really get a straight out answer, but the implication was heavily laid throughout the movie. Not the worst movie i have ever seen, and i have seen a TON of terrible movies......this isnnot one of them.
What if there was a malevolent demon which could possess multiple people at once, and use technology to spread faster?
This is the intriguing idea explored in e-DEMON, a live streaming type horror film, in which all the action is seen via livestreams on a computer screen. The unique format has been used to excellent results in horror movies like THE DEN (2013), UNFRIENDED (2014), and more recently and THE HOST (2020) and INVITED (2024). E-DEMON does not quite reach the greatness of these movies, but it is by no means a bad film. The current 3.7 IMDB rating is definitely way too harsh.
I suspect the reason for the low rating is that many people may be turned off by the contrived way the "freakouts" are handled in the first third of the movie, the term referring to elaborate pranks that the four protagonists have a history of playing on each other. This aspect does seem far too forced at times, but once we are past the first third and the protagonists realize something serious is happening, the movie picks up steam.
Other quibbles I have are that an anonymous announcer of the "e-demon resistance" bookends the film, which I found worse than useless because it not only brings nothing of value to the table but spoils the ending, and that some plot progressions at times seem a bit choppy. Leaving the bookends on the cutting floor and smoothing out several transitions would have made for a better (meaning: more disturbing) movie watching experience.
Still, there are some genuinely disturbing moments as the movie takes the live streaming concept to interesting places, and features innovations like a first-person view of a drowning and jumping out of a car.
Throughout watching this I was reminded of INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS (1978) which I still consider one of the best horror films ever. It is in a completely different league than this film, but what e-DEMON does demonstrate is that the basic concept of people being replaced by malign versions still has a lot of life in it left, particularly in light of new technologies.

There was quite a lot that made me want to watch 'E-Demon'. It had a cool poster/cover, a somewhat intriguing if very derivative premise and as someone with a general appreciation for the genre it fits under. That it was low-budget, which from frequent personal experience is rarely a good sign due to that there are so many poor ones out there (though there are decent to good ones as well), made me though apprehensive.
'E-Demon' is unfortunately on the other hand yet another film seen recently, hence some reiteration because the exact same strengths and flaws present in those films are here, that did absolutely nothing for me. 'E-Demon' is really terrible, with so many huge flaws, any potential that it had completely disappears in translation. There is nothing good here in 'E-Demon' apart from the eerie-looking setting that is wasted by the rest of the production values, just amateurish in all aspects.
Going further on to the negatives, the story does feel over-stretched and some of it comes over as vague and under-explained in the last third where the film especially became duller, more predictable, more senseless and less unsettled and never gaining momentum. All the characters are too sketchy and with cardboard thin and colourless personalities and with nowhere near enough to make one want to endear to them, all of them coming over as incredibly irritating to the extent you don't want them alive. Their annoying and illogical decision making and behaviours frustrates. The chemistry is bland and unfocused.
The sound quality is obvious and utilised cheaply (being too loud in the build ups and people's reactions), the effects are laughable and all of the acting is lacking severely on the whole, that's actually an understatement as the worst of it is horrendous. There is no sense of horror or engagement with the awful predicament they're in, and no connecting with the character, it just reeks of indifference which makes the viewer not care less too.
Dialogue can be stilted and rambling while the pace and film drags on forever, apparent from the very start, never recovering that interest is lost fast. The ending has no build-up and just ends ridiculously. Found too many of the supposedly shocking moments not surprising or scary and the atmosphere dreary, due to the excessive obviousness, a lot of dumb and vague moments and explanations and the lack of tension and suspense. Thrills are none, thanks to stodginess and excessive over-familiarity, and found myself never invested in the drama, which tended to be indifferently acted, interminably paced and statically directed.
A lot of 'E-Demon' has really dull and going nowhere plot elements and often nonsensical and confusing character motivations, while too many of the things to make you shocked are far from creative or unsettling. It all feels rather tame while the threat completely lacks menace and looks terrible.
Nothing freaky or interesting with some shoddy effects, no development and too derivative, while everything is unimaginative and are more odd than scary, completely failing to show any sense of dread. There is nothing interesting or illuminating with what the film was trying to do and the drama is overwrought with no momentum and a lot of weirdness. The direction is leaden, got the sense their heart was not in it, and the music is ill-fitting. 'E-Demon' is very amateurish visually, too drearily lit and shows no care in the way it's shot, severely compromising any coherence. The editing is all over the place.
Altogether, irredeemably (apart from the setting, which was wasted so is not really a merit) terrible. 1/10 Bethany Cox

This is entertaining but pretty bad. The acting is pretty laughable. I'd also like to know what year this takes place and what kind of garbage webcams and internet connections these people are using. Every other second the image has errors or buffers. Several times I thought it was my device. It's really aggravating and distracting several times.
There were a few scenes that are hilarious in a so bad it's good kind of way.
Also, ignore the idiot claiming racism. Lots of people die and are killed by lots of different people. But of course hateful race baiters are gonna try to spread their hate and misinformation.

I went in not expecting much and was really surprised by how much I really did enjoy it. Great premise and well shot. Worth the watch definitely.
