Usually a "festival film", as in a motion picture created to win a prize at a more or less prestigious film gathering, is a way to express what's inside a director's/writer's mind. To convey a message. To expose a feeling. This film is different and unfortunately it indicates the arrival of a certain kind of cinematography. It was made to capitalize on a hot topic, in this case conservative parenting.
It doesn't even hide its bias too much. Instead of the normally accepted practice of leaving the finale open for debate of what it's all about, the creators simply and crudely slapped a subtitle openly saying what they want us to think. They had an agenda to push and they did just that.
As a film it's absolutely hopeless. The script, the production design, the cast, the music, even sound effects - all bad. They wanted to create a cold atmosphere through modernist surroundings... and failed. They wanted us to hate the antagonists... and failed to even explain what exactly they do that's so wrong. They wanted us to sympathize with the protagonist... and failed to even define what they hell she's doing there. The entire production seems rushed and badly thought through.

Cold, unrational, where the background is unknown, during the entire film, until the end.
The girl enters to a place, where the money does not count only the way of growing up a kid in a strict way to create his anger to rule the world. The really emberrassing part, when the girl believes that she really needs to serve this place and as she have become part of it. It is so strange to see her with his boyfriend, serving him.
You will be schocked at the end of the film.
A must see.

I had no high expectations while checking the score the movie had in IMDB, then I was surprised in a very good way. The movie had this weird atmosphere that can be find in similar plots, where the rich people have their own way of educating their children and one can feel the constant escalation without loosing real connection with the "normal" or at least until the half of the movie. What surprised me the most is that the story is based on real events from the recent past and linked to the rituals and believes of a religious community. Though there is no real focus on that, so until the end you do not see it so obvious. Just successful people who has their own rules and you would try to learn from them liking the lifestyle they have, especially when you are young and open, which was in my opinion the way to show how normal people can become part of the community. All the scenes are well shot, the actors are great, the accents, the lack of emotion or suppressed emotion made the great finish of the details of the movie. Current score presents the movie well underrated. 10/10 for me.
It's a heavy movie but not exactly hard to watch. Interesting and enigmatic from the first to the last second. Accurate and useful, provides a deep understanding as to how brainwashing and human degradation works. I was also surprised to find out that the movie was based on real events. Now I have to find out more about this sect called 12 Tribes.
The movie itself is well shot, but some svenes are way too long, you have a feeling nothing really happens. But the story itself is shocking, sick people. Worth to watch it
