One of the worst dhanush movie watched by me.
The ending was DISASTER.
kajol should get a new accent if she wants to continue her acting career.

Post viewing of the sequel, as I walked out of my screening, I wondered what Actor-Producer Dhanush was thinking when he decided to make a sequel to a wonderfully-loved VIP (Vellailla Pattadhari.) In his acting stint at the time, he probably wanted to expoit a franchise market for Tamil films (after Shankar did for Enthiran as 2.0) and decided to make a VIP-2. This time around he gets his sister-in-law, Soundarya, who made Kochadaiyaan. This marks Soundarya's live action debut (unless you count her productions in her short-lived Ocher Studios for Venkat Prabhu's Goa, which also tanked.)
How did she do this time around? Pretty poorly as a screenwriter (credited along with Dhanush for Story.) At times, there are scenes of Dhanush exploiting his "gratious-english" that stretch beyond a certain point. The whole wife-nagging scheme of things do not help either. You also have Kajol, who despite the looks looks very bored and out of place here. Someone local like Aishwarya Rajesh would have made a better fit here. Coming back to Kajol, you wish the writers had a better role for her. Alas, the shades of Mappillai/Jamai Raja are pretty much evident.
The Rajnikanth-praises spread around are as far worse that Tamil movies resorting to the utter mention of "Thala" (Ajith Kumar's former pet name) which screams shoehorn of desperation. The tropes of VIP while funny intially, gets to a point of irritation. Surabhi's role from Part 1 gets replaced by Ritu Varma without any rhyme or explanation how she was changed.
The unwanted climax by adding in the Chennai floods for a point of sentiments do not work. In the end, you end up pulling your hairs and wonder why the hell did Dhanush and team made this in the first place.

After the biggest success of Velaiyilla Pattathari, Dhanush and Soundarya Rajinikanth are uniting for the first time in Velaiyilla Pattathari 2. Unlike Velaiyilla Pattathari, the sequel seems to be less youthful and less energetic. The factors that made the prequel successful and memorable are not present in this film which seems to be one of the biggest drawbacks. Dhanush as Raghuvaran is inimitable. He is the heart and soul of the Velaiyilla Pattathari franchise. On the other side, we have Amala Paul reprising her role as Shalini who seems to be more mature with the shades of the usual soap opera-type heroine. Even though we had Samuthirakani and Vivek for the comedy scenes, she is the show stealer with her strict attitude which is a delight to watch. As the antagonist, we have Kajol who seems to have a very strong and promising role at first but ends up similar to the antagonist of the prequel. Velaiyilla Pattathari 2 lacks the magic that the prequel had. There are several dull moments that drag the overall film down. The film's duration might be shorter but the slow pace of the second half is a big drawback. Until the interval, VIP 2 had made a promising impression which has been ruined by a soap opera kind second half. Even the climax seems to be a mismatch. The Raghuvaran that we celebrated in Velaiyilla Pattathari seems to have faded away in this underwhelming film. Another big drawback of VIP 2, it's the soundtrack composed by Sean Roldan who doesn't fit in this film. The background score lacks the energy that the prequel had with Anirudh. There are only a few themes that worked that was borrowed from the prequel. Overall, Velaiyilla Pattathari 2 fails to recreate the magic of its prequel.
Vip 1 was one of my personal favorite movies because most of the characters were relatable, well written dialogues, goosebump inducing mass scenes and touching emotion scenes.
When I heard dhanush is coming with its sequel, I was sceptical because he replaced the original director velraj with his sister in law soundarya rajinikanth who directed the mega disaster kochadaiyaan. And mostly sequels don't work in tamil unlike other indian languages. After watching the film, what I feared came true.
Nothing works here at all despite dhanush trying hard to keep the magic of the first part. The confrontation scenes between dhanush and kajol are not at all interesting. In the first part, our blood boils towards the villain in the confrontation scenes. But in this, nothing happens because kajol's character is not written like a negative one. In the end, they become friends with the backdrop of chennai floods which comes out of nowhere.
On the whole, vip2 is a sequel nobody asked for. I have to immediately watch the first part in order to erase the memories of the second.
The sentiment, songs, fights spoiled the movie. It was a cringy fun kind of movie.
