Cool movie! I dug it. You might too. It is funny and has some good horror sequences as well. Poop!
Why do I ever watch anything on Plex?
Another late night Plex hunt finding this. Clickbait a movie with no plot and everything about it is done poorly. Acting, camerawork, music, plot. Nothing really works here. Blending horror and comedy is tough and very few people can do it successfully. Doing it because your horror movie wasn't scary to begin with is something else. This is a no effort movie dumped onto whatever streaming service will have it and, in the end, it succeeds at nothing. It´s not scary, it´s not funny, it´s nothing.
An internet celebrity and her nerdy friend is stalked by an insane fan.
The acting in this movie is really bad. From the delivery to the face acting everything is clearly someone´s first gig. The way lines are delivered makes everything sound like no one cares about anything in the movie and except for some screaming at the end, everything is delivered horrendously. The voice over at times doesn't help either. Some scenes clearly had the lines dupped over and the sound mixing is not hiding it well.
This isn't helped by the most stale camera ever. All the angels are basic and boring and nothing is really happening in frames. It´s just wide shuts and close ups without any meaning or variety to it.
The comedy goes from bland to unfunny to kid's humour. It´s all over the place and has no tone nor identity. The delivery doesn't help it either, making the actors sound like they don't really believe the jokes either. The humour is fart humour, sex humour and some "I´m smarter than you" humour. Again it´s kidish and not really something worth seeing.
This movie says nothing, even though it had a chance to do so. About fame and internet culture. About real and fake friendships. Instead it wastes it´s entire runtime with basically nothing and the plot really kicks in the last 15 minutes of this 1 hour 14 movie, I´m not joking. Nothing happens in the rest of the movie. You could look away from the screen for an hour and still kind of follow along. It´s insane to me how bad this movie is and how poorly executed it is. And the twist really is wasted and the mystrey is easily solwed, yet really stupid in general.
This is just a huge waste of time and really offers you nothing. Nothing over the top, nothing to laugh at, nothing to cling to for any form of entertainment. You are just left with nothing here other than wasting time.

Clickbait is a very clever look at fame culture, but in a different light than most similar movies. It's not an indictment of the people caught up in it, but rather the society that forces them to participate in order to be successful. I saw a Q&A where the directors talked about how the whole movie is intended to get the viewer to reflect on their own choices about how they consume on the internet. That's an important message. And Toot Strudels are funny as hell!
This is a horror satire film, which clocks in at under 90 mins. The pacing of the film is mostly on spec, but occasionally drags because the Toot Strudels adverts weren't always funny, but they are intelligently woven into each Str33ker's flashes.
This is a world where people vie for popularity over an app called Str33ker, which I guess is a parody of Twitter. And the popularity involves creating very short videos, which they call 'flashes' (or 'Vines' in the old days). Bailey and Emma are a duo - Bailey is the face, and Emma does the filming.
The satire mostly works, with only a few moments where I felt the humour fell flat. The film's budget must have been low because, well, the horror and gore moments are what you'd expect from a student film. However, as a horror satire it works absolutely fine.
The sound is a bit problematic at times... dialogue was sharp, but there were times when the sound was murky when I don't think it meant to be. Did I mention the film is a tad short? With the fairly fast pacing, the script could have added an extra scene or two - not to pad it out, but to extend the satire.
Last but not least, I feel the film title 'Clickabait' doesn't suit the film at all. The Str33kers don't seem to be using clickbait titles and, if anything, it's the Toot Strudel ads that hogs a fair bit of airtime. Nevertheless, I give the film a solid 7. Great performances, satire punches about its weight, and both lead actresses are excellent in their roles, especially Brandi Aguilar.

Clickbait is a searing satire of social media narcissism and the lengths people will go to promote their brand. Terrific horror elements mixed in with the comedy make it a fun ride for horror fans. But the true horror is that this may not be that far from the true world we live in today.
