Marvellous short, with depth of feeling

This excellent short Luca has compressed in 15 minutes the emotional journey of its central character, which is difficult enough for short films in such little time to convey a conflict and make it engaging, let alone resonant. There are touches of Aronofsky in its proceedings, but Luca is entirely on its own - a dance film that purposefully breaks gender binary thinking through its simple narrative. And with depth of feeling, the film culminates in a stunning dance sequence (and great use of Nyman's music), sublimely shredding all notion of gender and sexuality in dance, and subsequently all artform, that it's the dancer, the artist that matters. This is a beautifully progressive short. See it and be moved.
