Meant to Be Broken

This film takes the "bucket list" concept and turns it on its head. Straight-arrow Harvey finds out he has less than a month to live and falls in with shyster Luke who motivates him to start challenging every rule or law that's "meant to be broken." Thus begins an adventurous roadtrip to meet up with his almost-ex-wife eight states away. Good girl Shuri, an accidental kidnapping "victim," joins the duo and kicks the risk factors up a notch. The plot is fun AND funny, poignant with a subtle, but unmistakable, comment on the modern day American experience.

This film is all the more amazing in that it was made independently by alumni of the 48 Hour Film Project who recruited other project participants along the filming route. Real people telling real stories and casting other real people who look just like you and me... and it's beautiful!

I was told about this film by a friend; it was interesting. The story line was great. The acting is about what you would expect from an indie film with little known characters. I would expect to see more of the two main characters as both did a fantastic job making you FEEL their characters. I recommend watching the film and look forward to seeing more from these actors particularly Nick Depinto (Luke), he played a truly enjoyable role...at first you thought "this guys is nuts" but later I became a fan of his character. I can't help but think Mr. DePinto has a bright future.

Very interesting story of a dying man who never broke the law - but on his bucket list finds few unusual additions! Charmingly invigorating characters with lots of connection between themselves are finding themselves in many funny situations and the humour plays a big part in the likability of this film.

And do not skip the credits... watch to the end!

Oh, man, I love a find like this one. A complete indie effort, the cast is outstanding, the story is super fun, and the dialog flows smoothly. You'll watch this film with a silly grin, I promise you that much.

So, Harvey (Dave Coyne) is dying. Having led a perfectly normal, law-abiding life as a notary public and "fact checker at a legal firm", he has decided to break as many laws as possible before he kicks off the planet. Along the way, he hooks up with an assortment of characters, to include Luke (Nick DePinto), his wayward criminal guide, and Shuri (also known as "Shifty" - Nadia Mohebban) a randomly kidnapped office worker who hates her job and decides to join Harvey and Luke on their cross-country crime spree.

Robbing drug dealers? Check. Grand theft auto? Check. Dine and dash? That's a double-check. Theft of your grins and giggles? Watch and see!

This film will make you want to break your chains and run, baby! Highly recommended!

My husband I loved this movie. It's a clever storyline full of humor and surprise. All of the characters are refreshing and fun, even the smaller supporting characters. Meant to Be Broken is a great Friday night date movie. We'd recommend this to anyone who wants a good laugh. Be sure to watch past the credits!
