Whoever wrote this has no idea what life in the military is like, even less of an idea of what life in the 1940s was like, and not the first clue of what the Battle of Okinawa was like. Thank goodness it's a short film with no plot, because I don't think I could've made myself sit through even one additional minute of it.
On the upside, the uniforms were very clean and pretty.

Oof. Even at less than 30 minutes, this is tough to watch. Classic example of "on the nose writing". Feels like a school project. The jury is in on Doohan. And it's not good. I didn't like him in Your Honor and even less so in this.
A classic example of people needing to write about what they know and refrain from writing about what they know nothing about. I thought at first this was going to be animated because of the weird opening scene, but then it morphed into real acting. Real poor acting. Real poor acting by people with no feel for the characters they are trying to portray, reading words written by people with no feel for the era which they are trying to convey. Other than the uniforms, which are too clean and intact for a unit on Okinawa in the aftermath of the bloodiest battle in WWII, the actors do not look like Marines and they do not speak like Marines, and they do not act like Marines. I didn't last ten minutes in before I had to turn it off.
This was apparently witten by someone who obviously has no concept or understanding of "the greatest generation". Modern dialog and ridiculous modern sensibilities makes every brief and shallow exchange pure cringe. Feels like a bad high school drama skit, especially with the ending that only a millennial would craft.
Yes, you read that correctly. I liked this movie and it is unfathomable how anyone can imagine these petty belittling comments really make it less than what it is in any way. Whoever has written these comments has missed the entire point of this. Last patrol on Okinawa is a true gestalt of the anti-war movie and just because a director has the opportunity to show their own vision on this decisive moment in WWII, doesn't mean it should be pushed aside or frowned upon. One cinematic vision is not the only vision. The projection of a world is not the only projection there is. Who said that the purpose of this is necessarily entertainment? Also, while taking your time to carefully write such unimpressionable comments, maybe you should have realized that they will not remove the value of this artwork and the idea it conveys: the meaninglessness of war. And it does so wonderfully. Congrats for this movie, Nick!
