Needless to say that I had indeed never even heard about this 2019 movie titled "Gone by Dawn 2: Dead by Dusk", from writer and director Shaun Donnelly, prior to stumbling upon the movie by sheer random luck here in 2025. I opted to sit down and watch the movie on account of it being a movie that I hadn't already seen.
But from the movie's cover alone, I have to say that I wasn't exactly harboring the biggest of expectations to the movie.
Now, I haven't watched the 2016 movie "Gone by Dawn", so I don't know if I am missing out on anything crucial by watching the sequel without having watched the first movie beforehand.
The storyline in the movie was not great. Sure, it was watchable, but the narrative was severely hindered by the slow pacing of the storyline. And that ultimately made it a bit of a drag to sit through the movie.
I was not familiar with a single actor or actress on the cast list. But that was actually something that spoke in favor of the movie, as I do enjoy watching new and unfamiliar talents on the screen. The acting performances in the movie were certainly better than I had expected.
My rating of writer and director Shaun Donnelly's 2019 movie "Gone by Dawn 2: Dead by Dusk" lands on a generous three out of ten stars.
