Der magische Kompass: Auf der Suche nach dem verlorenen Gold

Nothing special here. It's just another one of those. Don't get me wrong, it's not a dead loss, and the storyline is acceptable, it's just you know how it's all going to end up. A treasure hunt with a handful of baddies that are thwarted by a bunch of kids with a hint of magic, mystery and time travel involved. My viewing was brutally interupted by Amazon Prime's new advertising greed which seemed to break out every 10 - 15 minutes, so perhaps I was more upset by this and failed to grasp the full impact of the movie. The actors were quite good and given a break could end up going on to much better things. Decidedly average.

I just ran across this movie and didn't think much of it with it looking like just another mediocre kid's movie. I didn't expect it to be what it was - a little gold nugget!

First, at the time of writing this review, I'm a student at the University of North Georgia *in Dahlonega, GA* so to discover that's where the movie was based and filmed got me really exited. I also love how the production involved the historic Dahlonega Consolidated Gold mine, a major tourist attraction here in town. I encourage any visitors to go!

Overall, I did enjoy this movie. I wouldn't say it was fantastic, but it definitely wasn't boring. It wasn't even overly predictable either. I liked the surprises that came about, and I enjoyed how the movie ended, even if it was kind of quick.

The acting was probably the weakest link of the movie, but it was still better than many of the low-budget movies I've seen.

I'd give this movie an 8/10 rating, and definitely recommend it if you're looking for a sweet family movie to enjoy over dinner or something.

Grandkids (7yrs, 9yrs) loved it and wanted to go on a treasure hunt in the backyard after watching! Interesting and true about the Cherokee land and gold. It was pleasant that there was no foul language so I didn't have to worry about the kids hearing words they shouldn't. It was an interesting concept about how they time traveled through the tunnel but not too over the heads of younger viewers. I'd recommend this movie for grandparents and grandkids to watch together. Just be ready for the begging to go on a treasure hunt! Wife says two of the kids were in her favorite Hallmark movie so she enjoyed it too.

This movie has all the flavor of the Goonies with a little time travel in the middle. Those reviewers who gave this a low mark have no clue what it's like to have an adventurous childhood or good clean friends. This is all about loyalty, trust, good friends, adventure, danger, fun, exploration, archaeology, treasure hunting, time travel paradoxes and an all around fun time. What's not to like? The acting is mediocre at best and very good at times and the actors are not famous names or anything like that, but it flows realistically and just plain good. Nothing questionable, absolutely no nudity or any foul language, very minor violence. Just a fun treasure hunting adventure of 4 kids as they attempt to salvage their ancestral home and lands from being sold. Sound familiar ?(Goonies). A real enjoyable film for everyone especially kids. If you are an adult and never had a fun childhood then here is some kids who had one. Enjoy.
