A beautiful Caribbean film; one that showcases our authentic island culture and the young protagonists have a charismatic and compelling presence. The film had it all: nature, culture, drama, humour, superstition and love. Kudos to the director and to the cast and the real star of the film, Providence Island.
I picked up a copy of this DVD at my local library and it proved to be a rather pleasant surprise.
Corn Denton (Honlenny Huffington) and his sister Rita (Klara Howard) are two squabbling siblings sent out on an errand by their mother to pick up some benches for the tourist hotel their parents operate, as the season is about to begin on the Caribbean island of Port Paradise. Taking the family truck, they accidentally run over and kill a large black goat on the road.
From there, they'll be all kinds of quirky adventures and colorful characters ahead, as they try and raise the money that day to repair their parents vehicle. The film has enough humorous moments and a natural unpredictability about it that I found appealing, although not everything works here. Of course, the plush cinematography of the island certainly adds well to the mix.
All in all, this low-budget indie, by first time writer and director Samir Oliveros, worked rather well. I'll be interested to see what else Oliveros brings to the screen in the future.

How often do you come across a movie where the plot is not of greater importance and yet it manages to make you wanna watch it. A very simple story and yet has so much to say. Kudos on casting and direction is neat. The screenplay keeps you engaged and entertains every second of the 75 minutes. A must watch to appreciate simple things in life.
"Bad Lucky Goat" is a film made by Colombians but I didn't notice a single word of Spanish in the movie. It's actually set on some unnamed island that is a lot like Jamaica and they speak a form of Creole (it's absolutely nothing like Haitian Creole). Regardless, you'll find yourself reading subtitles and I think it's worth it.
The story concerns Corn (short for 'Cornelius') and his sister (her name isn't listed on IMDb...I think it might have been Lisa) as they go on a small errand that turns out to be a lengthy and unpredictable adventure. It all starts with them destroying the family's truck, as they're bickering so much they don't see a goat walking into their path. Exactly where it goes next...well, just see it for yourself.
There isn't a lot of deep meaning here...just a nice road trip movie with lots of Caribbean culture and charm. Well worth seeing.

You know it's gonna be a long day after a truck meets goat accident. Faced with a damaged family vehicle and an ex goat, sparring siblings Corn and Rita set off on a series of misadventures in an ill fated attempt to avoid the inevitable parental retribution.
Silly plot detours and unpolished acting chops cannot derail this little charmer of a film. Floating on the vibe of the warm ocean breeze locale, "Bad Lucky Goat" has the backward innocence of a not so affluent island paradise, where everyone knows everyone, life moves slowly, and the little things are really big things.
Brimming with colourful characters, colourful language (a charming Patois mix), colourful music, and colourful scenery, this is one feel good rainbow flick totally worth a quick watch.
