Homer... The Late Comer

This 1970 film is not available on a DVD collection. This film is on the cusp of the era when soft core turned into hardcore, and the film offers a little bit of both. Homer is a middle aged slob who fantasizes about women. He ends up having two sex scenes with the same women. I don't know here name, but she is very pretty, with an exceptional body and a pretty face. There is a little genital fondling, but that's as close as it comes to hardcore.

The other scene is with Debra Christian and a nameless, faceless man. Her scene is a little closer to hardcore, but quite. It looks as if she might be doing hardcore, but is it not 100% certain. The closeups are too close to know who is actually appearing on the screen.

Overall the film is a waste of time, other than as a history lesson. If you like buxom actresses then there might be some appeal. A lot of people like the transitional period between hardcore and soft core, and this film might appeal to them.

Throughout the '70s, a typical practice, apparently due to theatrical exhibitor demand, was to add XXX insert footage to soft-core porn films to make them competitive with the new and popular hard stuff, especially after the hit "Deep Throat" changed everything. This early stinker reflects such a trend in its infancy.

Very poorly made and acted, it plays almost exactly like a soft "Nudie Cutie" comedy of five to 10 years earlier, the "Kiss Me Quick", "Not Tonight Henry' and "House on Bare Mountain" ilk. Film editor Homer, ridiculously overplayed by James Myers in a manner making the show nearly unwatchable, is the hen-pecked jerk who turns out to be under mama's thumb (I thought the harridan heckling him was his wife at first).

His non-adventures result in mucho sex, as he fantasizes a lot, but basically sleep-walks through the movie when not rolling or bugging-out his eyes. Big-breasted but generally unattractive women keep popping up to divert the viewer, in the tradition of so many films that followed in the wake of Russ Meyer's ground-breaking "The Immoral Mr. Teas".

The film's only "virtue", if one can call it that, is the fleeting moments of hardcore, tight-closeup explicit sex footage, showing penetration, that are inserted at various parts of the film. They don't match all that well with the obviously simulated sex of the actual master shot scenes, and Myers' limp little dick doesn't seem to be the one we see in actual action. Such a practice is always disconcerting, as I've noticed in numerous European porn films where some unfortunate star like Ornella Muti or Sirpa Lane is unwittingly doubled by a porn player for a XXX reissue of her movie.

The anonymous filmmakers display no talent whatsoever, not even on the level of their forbears like David Friedman who made those cuties before hardcore reared its ugly head. With so many opportunities to see busty beauties on screen, this counts as more a time-waster than the expected time-killer.
