The Day Of The Lord: Menendez (Juli Fábregas) is a former priest, a boy died during an exorcism and he was imprisoned. He drinks whiskey, has nightmares, people appear to him, he speaks to a mysterious person on the phone. It's difficult to tell his realty from his delusions. A friend he met in prison visits and tells the ex-priest that his teen daughter Raquel (Ximena Romo) is possessed and begs him to perform an exorcism. Eventually Menendez agrees and the girl arrives at his house. But is she possessed or just an ordinary teenager acting up. Menendez uses a violent form of exorcism convinced that she is plagued by a demon who is taunting him. A violent and disturbing film, there are some scenes which might even distress a hardened horror fan. All of the film is shot in the priest's dark and gloomy house and there is only a thin vein of humour to relieve bleakness of the proceedings. Good performances by Fábregas and Romo. Directed and Co-Written by Santiago Alvarado. On Netflix. 7/10.
I've seen many possession films, but I don't think I've seen one in which the exorcism is conducted by Mike Tysoning a teenage girl. Lol.
I couldn't stop laughing when the priest repeatedly reminded the girl's father to read the Bible verses in a gringo accent to fool the demon. Lol, Then the priest reminds the man to forget the gringo accent because the demon already know he wasn't a gringo. Lol. Pure comedy. Olalay pinche gringo!

Starts off slow with lots of dialogue in the first hour, but the last half hour or so more than makes up for it. I personally don't believe in demonic possession but I do watch these type of movies for entertainment value.
If you think about it, a demon is not going to easily release a person from possession after being read a few passages from the Bible. So I like the fact that this movie went where most won't...infliction of real pain on the possessed to loosen the demon's hold, in graphic detail. At times I wasn't entirely sure whether the priest was a sadist or a real exorcist. Watch and you'll find out !
If the first hour had been paced better, I would rated the film a 9. Still liked watching it though, for its originality and acting by the 3 main characters.

For the record, I'm seeing what looks like, tons of fake reviews, some going so far as saying those that didn't like it is due to culture being "lost" for certain audiences, I strongly disagree as I am of Latin descent and speak fluent Spanish, so nothing was lost in translation here. I figure I'd chime in with a quick review of PROS and CONS of this movie. PROS: Its has the dark atmosphere nailed and at times can be genuinely creepy. The actors are great and the acting is good enough to keep you invested in the characters, especially Priest Menendez himself. CONS: A weak story that could've been told in a 30 minute anthology series. The movie takes itself WAY too seriously given the material and, certain...situations...presented later in the film. Some of the dialogue is downright laughable! Also didn't know a good old fashioned beat down was part of the exorcism ritual, but here it is, unnecessarily brutal and long. As far as exorcism films, this isn't the worst (I hate how the term "worst movie ever" gets thrown around
so easily), but there's also plenty better out there. If you need a quick 90 minute possession horror film, I strongly recommend the superior Mexican/Venezuelan production, "The Exorcism of God (2021)".
A lovely film about possession, which I watched a long time ago, I don't remember the details, but passionate, intense scenes of possession, a great ending, little Ximena Romo, despite the baby face, is already 30 years old, excellent chemistry and performance of quartet, for a low budget, with single location, a very good film came out...
