The New Roommate

Certainly not one's run of the mill skyrocketed budget Hollyweird Blockbuster, with it appears non-professional (that is, part time) performers, it seems, in a relatively cheaply made suspenser. Some of this sort I have seen before, but not often, and judging by some of the other reviews, one might add, And I can see why. In fact, not too bad this one, if a bit Eine verhängnisvolle Affäre (1987) meets Weiblich, ledig, jung sucht... (1992), so sure, we've seen it all before, but let it not escape our notice that this is half the stuff we ever watch - not much that comes out could be truly deemed original, and yet we are gluttons for punishment. This film, however, was not really so bad - and believe me, I have seen much, much, much worse. This plays out like a documentary, with not as many different camera angles in scene, giving it a more realistic tone. No Alien Invasion, I aint Fraida no Ghost, Dr Evil Type taking over the World, and so, it is one that could be true to life. Overall, thumbs up, and a good try.

Horrible everything from acting to continuity. Why is this an option?

Q: What have these films have in common? The Martian The Revenant, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Donnie Darko, Doctor Zhivago, Rosemary's Baby, The Exorcist, Slumdog Millionaire, A Streetcar Named Desire .

A: At an IMDB score of only 8.0, they are all inferior to 'The New Roomate' which has 8.5.

I hate to disparage anyone's efforts in making a film but it's just dishonest to lure interest to this very, in every respect, poor quality, amateurish, risible, embarrassing dog pile. Quite often with a low budget offering there is an X factor which makes it stand out, such as 'heart', 'vision', a 'je ne sais quoi', there is nothing like that here. This will suck 87 minutes of your life into the abyss.

I watched this thinking it was going to be a lot like The Roommate starring Minka Kelly and Leighton Meester & The Perfect Roommate starring Ashley Leggatt and Boti Bliss; but I was wrong. Tubi had this listed as drama horror, that I what had me hooked to watch the new roommate; but it wasnt drama or horror. The new roommate doesn't know whether it wants to be comedy, erotica, drama, thriller, horror or what and it sucks badly at it; because it doesn't have any violence in it just a few scenes from a horror movie that Heather was watching. There was a scene that was supposed to have been sexy at the end between Heather and a woman but it wasn't. So they failed miserably with the new roommate.

But I am ticked off that people very obviously "fake rated" this film. Ordinarily, if I'd seen an indie this awful (acting, script, dialog, production - all horrid), I would've said, "somebody put a lot of effort into this and it's unkind to pan it." Whelp, I think fake ratings are even more unkind.

I'm too annoyed to even comment on whether this film's badness could be fun in the right context.
