Outlast 2

When I played outlast two, the bars were set very high for the sequels to beat. When I got to play this game at a friends house, I was excited to see if the sequel actually beat the first game. The answer is no, but outlast two was very damn close to raising the expectations. While the game was scary, the sequel held back the psychological horror factor unlike the first game where the developers go all out. The game did give me a lot of scares throughout, but I wasn't traumatized at all from the gameplay, like the first game. The mountain setting and the cult added some sense of dread to the game, but it wasn't as unsettling as the asylum setting and the asylum patient enemies from the first game. But still, despite its flaws, Outlast 2 is a frightening game that despite its flaws and the fear factor being held back that is an enjoyable experience when playing. When I played this game and the first one I was connected to a heart rate monitor and had either one of my siblings or my friend record my heart rate. But this game didn't make my heart beat as fast as the first game, which I had a crap ton of anxiety when playing.



Side-note for parents: like the first game, this isn't a game for kids as it contains unsettling material, graphic violence, and strong language. But between outlast and this game, this one is more for kids as outlast one will cause some psychological damage to your kids after playing it. While outlast two will just give the kids some anxiety.

This was a solid horror game that has a creepy atmosphere. The game has an interesting idea and the setting in the woods. It was well done. The game delivers plenty of shocks. The game wasn't as scary as the first Outlast, but this is a satisfying experience. The game handles the dark really well in a place where the evil could attack the main character from anywhere.

OUTLAST 2 (2017) is a horror survival game that, similar to the first game, has you play as another investigative journalist, that is soon ambushed by a horrific cult. While this game is still pretty unsettling and at times terrifying, it doesn't quite pack the same punch as the first game.

This game has definite Jonestown/ Manson family vibes, yet takes place in remote Arizona desert, with a twisted pseudo-religious cult. As a player, you are made to be highly defenseless and vulnerable hich amps up the tension.

Outlast II was a game filled with difficult challenging terrain to navigate and psychologically creepy due to the story and characters in the game.

Overall, this game is a pretty great horror game, fun to play, and definitely disturbing. I've heard it had to be severely edited to allow it to be able to have the M (mature rating). This was a great way to get creeped out.

I will begin my review like I always do, with an anecdote:

It takes places a year ago, after I finished reading Stephen King's It; and during the time I was reading it, it mentioned the Jonestown massacre (the one that took placed on Guyana, during the mid 70's). I had heard of this tragic event, from other sources, such as Spanish videos of cults by Angel David Revilla ''Dross"; and after of it, my curiosity grow and decided to search some information related to the tragedy... I end up shocked...two years later, 2023, some months ago I finished playing Outlast (the first one); I found out a little while later that there was a sequel (Outlast 2).

All a can say, to make all of this short is:

Outlast 2 is much more extreme than the first one, you will love it, but at the expense of you sanity (of course, that is an exaggeration), but if you don't mind a bit of masochism; than play it...You had been warned.

I used to hate this game, mainly bc I didn't understand it. But now I've played it multiple times and finally understood it to fully appreciate it. It's a masterpiece and an example of how sometimes brilliance is misunderstood. Every thing, literally everything about this game is well made. I owe Red Barrels an apology for dragging this game, it deserves more love and recognition.
