I really rather liked this. It seemed to hit the ground running which most sitcoms fail miserably at. Darren Boyd is a talented comic actor whom I have always liked especially in Smack the Pony. The rest of the support actors do just that and support him pretty well perfectly. Paddy McGuinness managed to shake off the dreadful gameshow host persona which he employs at times and is adept at delivering his lines. I am not a huge fan of Fay Ripley but she, too, is well employed as the sister in the department who fancies Darren's character something rotten. I laughed quite a lot and look forward to seeing more episodes. Good writing and situations which ring true make The Delivery Man a great new TV series.
If there's one thing I love, it's tall handsome well built men holding babies, or feeding babies, or in general being nurturing to babies. So of course when I found this series in my suggestions from Netflix, I jumped straight on that bandwagon!
I did watch the whole season, at least as much as is on Netflix right now, and honestly I could take it or leave it. It's very lighthearted, which is nice, but as a result doesn't make a very big impression either. The humor is not terrible but doesn't make you laugh out loud either.
I do get tired of the endless drama in soap operas, but this show is one that could use a little more. Especially seeing the mothers and the births and our main character dealing with those. I'm surprised to see a show that was rated tv-14 (a soft version of MA for mature here in Canada) that danced around the issue of giving birth so much. It's a show about midwives for goodness sake! Giving birth usually has enough drama to spare, and this show capitalizes on none of that, instead choosing to use the horrible incompetence of the staff to create humor and drama.
I really did enjoy it, and the characters all have their unique charm, but they're one dimensional. I hope that in the next season (if there is one) the potential of this series will really be expanded upon.

I actually enjoyed this show. Not often I come to find shows enjoyable anymore. I am starting to enjoy British shows. Too bad it's only 6 episodes. Sadly I been finding it hard go find shows that I can enjoy. An ex cop becomes a midwife, he is doing a good job.

Why in the world is this show not in season 3. So rare to have a sharply written and acted comedy. Great writing and delivery.
Darren Boyd plays Matthew exactly the same as he played Tim in "Spy"...and it's delightful. His deadpan delivery as the only sane man in a hospital labor and delivery ward works really well.
As the only male midwife, and only ex-police officer midwife, in the department, Matthew struggles with the prejudices of his coworkers and the patients. The supporting characters aren't as strong as those in "Spy" and the requisite love interest less interesting, but it's still a funny 22 minutes, enough to make me want to continue immediately to the next episode.
At the time of this writing, there are only six episodes, which are available in the US via Netflix. I found subtitles helpful in understanding the British accents.
