There cannot be a better start for Vijay Sethupathy prouductions

I was so unlucky that I missed this movie in theatres. Was waiting badly to watch this movie after seeing a few scenes on TV. Thank God, Netflix made it possible. Yaay, I watched it. I should say this is one of the sweetest films I've ever seen. This is not your regular masala movie. This is a brave experiment that needs to be appreciated. The beauty of the story lies in its simplicity. All the characters have played their part very well. Cinematography was top notch. Vijay sethupathi as usual lived his character. This is the first time he had played a character of an aged person. No wonder this man is liked by all. Director Biju's narration needs a special mention. The director has made it clear to keep the narration as natural as possible avoiding all possible cliches. The scene where Kailasam (Vijay sethupathi) gets down from the auto and starts dancing on the road in the middle of the night was a treat to watch. Quirky dialogues ensured every character had their own depth. Ramesh Thilak needs a special mention. His role as a paramedic will be one of his best. Watch it if you like feel good cinema. You won't regret. I have added this film to my list of favourites and will watch it whenever I want to feel light. Orange mittai tasted good. Real good. Thanks to the entire crew of "Orange Mittai". You made my day :-)

For a young paramedic and an ailing old eccentric, the ambulance ride to hospital turns into something unexpected.

What the Indian press is saying about "Orange Mittai"

"Orange Mittai is a beautiful film …Like the candy it is named after, Orange Mittai with its sweet and sour moments, is a beautifully narrated film with just the right balance of humour and emotions." Rediff Movies

"Orange Mittai is that one rare movie which comes in Kollywood with a good message." The Wire.

"Orange Mittai is a simple feel good movie without much fuss and hype silently will enter into your hearts…" India Glitz

"Orange Mittai is a colourful entertainer that engages you." Kolly 360

"…the film is a quiet ode to the bittersweet life." The Hindu

"Vijay Sethupathi proves his mettle once again in an unconventional role with his power packed performance." Deccan Chronicle

Tamil cinema star Vijay Sethupathi and director Biju Viswanath teamed up to write Orange Mittai for the inaugural project of the actor's newly-formed Vijay Sethupathi Productions, in collaboration with producer B. Ganesh. Sethupathi himself takes and conquers the challenging central role of a middle-aged ailing eccentric, Kailasam, who has been alienated from his son. The story converges around Kailasam and the young paramedic, Satya, who comes to his aid and finds that things are not quite as they appear to be. Satya, sensitively played by Ramesh Thilak, is feeling the recent loss of his father, and the ambulance ride with Kailasam is the premise for a type of father-son confrontation. The subtly-tuned drama is tempered by comedic moments provided by Arumugam Bala as the Sancho Panza-like ambulance driver. It should also be pointed out that this film goes off the beaten track in its lack of classic song-and-dance treatment, a fact which could be regarded by some as a courageous choice for Tollywood. The soundtrack is appropriate and compelling without being overwhelming, and includes several outstanding songs that do not detract from the verité tone of the story. Viswanath's cinematography is a visual treat. It takes up the lyric style of his earlier films and runs with it, offering a sense of immediacy, an inner stillness that savors "the now" and values it as something precious, beautifully supporting the concept that "journey is destination." – Kudos.

    I liked It.

I would like to add my comments on the reviews. I LIKED ORANGE MITTAi. Father and son challenges are very in depth. I thought Vijay and Ramish interesting and complex characters.I found the story emotional and touched with laughter. A beautiful film with a tender message not the easy happily ever after ending, but daring to express real life. A film to touch your soul, so bittersweet. This film gives you what it promises in its title Orange Mittai. I would be one of those people recommending watching it.

If the message to be a total pain in the ass only Vijay succeeded admirably…kudos to him. But more….to me that was not the message of the film. Vijay's performance portrayed the exact person the film needed to seeing beyond the obvious of realizing he had a heart and adding Ramesh…he missed the mark with his own father and it caused him to pause and change and open his heart to love. This is a win-win situation for both. The film gives us this without sticky and obvious emotions. The film gently works its magic. The director Biju Viswanath presents an emotional challenge with care and humor. Intense balance was given to keep the visual in line with the story.

Well done, Everyone. Yes, I liked it.

Feel good movie with a Soul.

Actor Vijay Sethupathi has never been afraid to experiment with unconventional roles and offbeat films. In "Orange Mittai" Vijay Sethupathi plays Kailasam, an arrogant, short-tempered 55-year-old, whose only source of entertainment in his boring life is his frequent trips to the hospital. Its bitter sweet story of a son looking for a father figure and a father looking for a son to love. Orange Mittai is directed by acclaimed director Biju Viswanath, whose works include award-winning films like Déjàvu and Marathon. The film appears more like a real-life incident. The most important aspect of this film is that, even though its speaks about estranged father son relationships ,the movie doesn't stoop of melodrama and usual emotional gimmicks in regular Tamil cinema. The film ends on the note that"journey is destination" which sums up the felling that you get while watching the movie. Feel good movie, definitely watchable.
