Was not expecting an awful lot from 'Exit 14', will admit that right off the bat. The concept did sound very derivative and schlocky, and because a lot of films seen recently blew their potential there was a lot of scepticism. Saw it anyway however because the cover was pretty eerie and there is an appreciation for the genre, plus an air of curiosity.
Even for someone with low expectations, 'Exit 14' failed to deliver on almost all levels. It started off reasonably well, there was a slight eeriness to the opening. The best thing, or at least the least bad thing, about 'Exit 14' was the acting, it wasn't exceptional (though nobody embarrassed themselves) but considering what they had to work with, which was terrible and would have been beneath even the worst actors and actresses, it was better than average.
As indicated, that the acting was not too bad is something of a miracle. Considering that they had characters so sketchily written, let alone developed, obnoxious and impossible to relate to, and really insipid and stilted dialogue that shouldn't have gone beyond the "coming up with ideas" stage.
There is nothing tense, creepy or suspenseful, even fun or interesting. Just lots of predictability, lazy derivation (if it was paying homage to fellow horror films, there is nothing affectionate or clever here), really dull pacing and cheesiness. The ending is weird and barely comprehensible, one of the biggest head-scratchers for any recent film viewing, as well as feeling like it came from a different film tonally.
'Exit 14' looks very schlocky visually, while the direction lacks focus and the music has no atmosphere or anything memorable or fitting at all.
In conclusion, have seen worse but a mess. 2/10 Bethany Cox

I have to say, i'm an avid horror watcher and this one really impressed me. I started skeptical, but i really recommended staying with it as the twist is like nothing i have seen since SAW the original came out. It was a strong mix of supernatural and backpacker slash-em-up, like a cross between insidious and wolf creek.
Fantastic cast, will definitely be seeing these guys go places. I would however warn anyone who is easily scared to watch out for this one, I'll be having nightmares for weeks (or at least sleeping with the lights on!). Can't wait for Exit 15, getting all my friends to see this one.

The college students Laurie (Laura Flannery), her best friend Faith (Ashton Leigh), her boyfriend Mick (Jamie Nocher) and their friend Joey (Anthony Del Negro) head to California on vacation. They take the exit 14 out of the interstate and soon they realize that they are lost. The stop at the gas station and convenience store owned by the gentle Roy (Tom Sizemore) that gives the right direction to the group. However the car has a problem and stops, and they call Roy to tow the car to his mechanical shop. Roy offers his house for the group to spend the night and soon they realize that the exit 14 does not exist.
The lame "Exit 14" is one of the worst movies ever made. The senseless story has a terrible screenplay and begins disclosing awful characters: Joey is annoying, silly and inopportune; Faith is promiscuous and stupid; Mick and Dad are uninteresting and Laurie and Roy are the only reasonable characters with potential, but are not developed. The cinematography, camera and lighting are amateurish. "Exit 14" is a forgettable film and a waste of time. My vote is two.

I've read some of the reviews here - some are far too generous (perhaps fake) while some are severely harsh. Personally, I'm in the middle here.
However, based on the performances of a few cast members of Exit 14 (who maintained my interest), along with the lack of CGI and other predictable methods of 'captivating' an audience (which would have only bored me), I believe Exit 14 deserves to be viewed in its entirety.
The cast of this movie may not be well known, but the characters of Laurie, Joey and Roy are compelling enough to have kept me watching Exit 14 from start to finish.
Plot-wise, the movie is of a genre which has been around for decades - although horror/supernatural, Exit 14 is not much of a slasher movie. It could even be a made for TV movie, as there is little to offend, apart from the occasional swear word.
As Exit 14, has received a lot of negative reviews, in its defense, I can make comparisons with bigger budgeted movies, with a A/B-list casts: I enjoyed the movie and at no time was I tempted to walk out, which is something I am prone to do, if I feel disappointed. If you can rent this, then do so - it's a bit of entertainment, after all, and if you bring few expectations to Exit 14, you won't be disappointed.

Do you need proof? Watch this crapfest. Four thoroughly obnoxious college students are on their way to Spring Break, get lost, then their car breaks down. They are seemingly rescued by Roy (Sizemore), and taken to his mother's cabin for the night. They then subsequently summon a dead spirit via a Dead Mary trope, and wacky hijinx ensue. Actually, absolutely no hijinx in this movie. It's quite dreadful from start to finish.
Ok, Mick inadvertently shoots his girlfriend, finally gets a functioning vehicle, and... he drives her back to the cabin in the middle of nowhere, with no cell phone?! Alright, I'm done with this one.
