Being a member of the Tidewater Appalachian Trail Club, I have a special fondness for movies set in the outdoors. Granite Rapids Moon was that and so much more. The photography of the Grand Canyon was superb. I've hiked in the Canyon twice but never saw most of the vistas shown in the movie.
Not knowing what to expect of an indie film, I was delighted by the realistic, non-Hollywood storyline. Some of the characters were a bit weird, but if you have ever hiked the Appalachian Trail, you will have run into those kinds of characters--and more.
The surprise ending topped off a great film. If it's playing near you, do yourself a favor and see it--whether you love being in the outdoors or not.

Fabulous portrayal of love and human confusion amidst the vastness of the Grand Canyon. This film beautifully captures some of the essence of how a few days in the wilderness can refocus one's views and priorities in life. The story may be fictional, but the experience is real.
This reviewer was pleasantly surprised to see the film set on trails hiked just recently, thus leading to some inevitable curiosity and bias on my part. The plot slowly opened up throughout the film just as a descent into the Canyon reveals more geologic layers in detail with each step. Familiarity with the locations certainly proved a draw. The unfolding of the characters and their histories provided their own share of suspense to keep the viewer engaged in more than just magnificent scenery.
A serious critic may find flaws of various kinds in the movie. However, as a vehicle for providing an escape into the wilderness where perspective distorts from normality, this film succeeds beautifully.

What an accomplishment! A true adventure with stunning cinematography and an engaging plot. While not perfect, it marks a milestone in what can be possible. This film deserves a closer look by indie aficionados! The female lead is the anchor and there are few weak links in the cast. The storytelling is suspenseful and challenging. The characters are sympathetic even in their foibles and mistakes. The specificity of what it means to hike the Grand Canyon will impress real hikers and enthusiasts alike. I wish there was a Making Of documentary to go aalong with the film. Muat have been quite and adventure in itself. Enjoy!
Such an engaging film that captivates the beauty & treachery of the Grand Canyon. The film takes you down the trail of life while hiking an actual trail in the Grand Canyon. An adventure about a lost love that needs closure and the undying strength of being in love & loved.
The cinematography captures the jaw-dropping beauty of the Grand Canyon and one man's quest to reach his destination while facing the perils of hiking in one of the natural wonders of the world. You also realize that even in the loneliest of places, one is never alone. One's memories can keep us from being alone. While watching the story unfold, it makes you realize we're always interconnected even in the most isolated places.

Excellent cinematography! There wasn't a scene that didn't make you appreciate the Grand Canyon for all its glory and beauty. Easy to follow story line and simple but warm acting. Even more special when you know the causes that are being supported with this movie. Producer serving as main character was an added bonus. Appreciated the story line even though it wasn't evident at the beginning, it came together at multiple points through the movie. This is a great independent film with limited screenings. Characters were believable as was story line. Sometimes it's the simplest story that makes for the best movies.
