When "American Dad!" first aired on Fox, "Family Guy" comparisons were inevitable, especially since both shows were created by Seth MacFarlane. "Family Guy" had been through the wringer, undergoing multiple cancellations, only to come back out on top. "American Dad!" felt like a test to see if MacFarlane could get lightning to strike twice with a different show that nonetheless had many of the same qualities as "Family Guy." That includes talking animals, and the early seasons had a tendency to lean into cutaway jokes that "Family Guy" had become synonymous with.

Over the years, "American Dad!" moved to TBS and then back over to Fox, changing its style of humor along the way. The show's less about making fun of current events and more about seeing just how depraved the Smith family can become with a significant decrease in random cutaways. As we count down the weeks until GhostsSeason 5 premieres on CBS, some of the cast of the hit sitcom took to San Diego Comic-Con this weekend to give us our first taste of what to expect from the new season. ScreenRant's Rachel Foertsch is on hand at the Ghosts panel at San Diego Comic-Con and reveals that a story in the upcoming season could see a new relationship between one of the human characters and one of the ghost characters in the series. The comedy already features complicated dynamics between its ghost and human characters who share a home.

According to showrunner Joe Wiseman, Ghosts season 5 will see Bela (Punam Patel) taking on a larger role at the restaurant in the series. Bela has already recurred throughout the show thanks to her connection to her brother Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) and the ghost Trevor (Asher Grodman).

Now, she will take on an even bigger role at Jay's restaurant and start her own event business. With that larger role in Ghosts season 5 comes "an interesting relationship with a ghost who's not Trevor" for Bela.

What Wiseman's Reveal Means For Ghosts Season...

If you're obsessed with the afterlife of Ghosts, then prepare for a lifetime of more laughs with Joe Port and Joe Wiseman's new comedy series. The co-creators and executive producers of the hit CBS series Ghosts are developing another show, and CBS has ordered a pilot for it. Titled Eternally Yours, it is also set in a supernatural world, but this time, it features the undead rather than the just dead. Eternally Yours tells the story of two vampires who have been married for 500 years. However, their love is tested when their daughter begins dating a human. The show does not have a premiere date yet, and no cast has been announced. Eric Tannenbaum, Kim Tannenbaum, and Jason Wang serve as executive producers on the project.

Cote de Pablo and Michael Weatherly from the newest addition to the NCIS franchise, NCIS: Tony & Ziva, are scheduled to take part in a panel on Thursday, July 24. Paramount Global has revealed the participants for its 2025 CBS Showcase, which will take place as a one-night live event hosted by program alums and “Ghosts” co-stars Sheila Carrasco and Punam Patel. The March 13 event marks the 20th anniversary of the Showcase initiative, which began in 2006 as a staged sketch show before transitioning into a charitable live stand-up event featuring emerging talent.

This year’s class of featured comedians includes Niles Abston, Sophie Buddle, Nico Carney, Fabrizio Copano, Tina Friml, Leslie Liao, Ever Mainard and Andrew Orolfo.

From Jay's (Utkarsh Ambudkar) fun-loving sister Bela (Punam Patel) to crass but loveable basement ghost Nancy (Betsy Sodaro), Ghosts has a handful of recurring characters that can practically guarantee a home run episode. One such character is Hetty's (Rebecca Wisocky) evil ex-husband Elias (Matt Walsh), another Gilded Age ghost who has quite literally been to Hell and back. Introduced in Season 1's "The Vault," Elias is as much a menace at Woodstone in his death as he was in life. With his ghost power allowing him to make living characters horny, there's no shortage of chaos to be had when Elias shows up. In Season 2, he returns in an attempt to get Hetty to free him from Hell by trying to take Pete back with him unless she forgives him for his many, many misdeeds.

Ghosts season 4, episodes 8 and 9 brought us Ghosts-mas again. This time, Jay’s parents came to visit, and it was clear it would be a disastrous event. It did bring us some exciting events, though.

The winter finale brought us plenty of ghostly antics, with Nancy possessing Sam thanks to an issue with the leaky water heater. Well, it wasn’t just Sam who ended up possessed. Pete ended up accidentally possessing Jay.

The introduction of Sam's dad is an exciting development for the writer and the Ghosts' Woodstone B&b owner, who doesn't have much community besides the house full of ghosts she lives with. Sam's mom, Sheryl (Rachael Harris), debuted in Ghosts season 1, episode 11, "Sam's Mom." However, she was already dead. While Sam (Rose McIver) was able to reconcile with her mom as a ghost, the experience allowed Sheryl to move on, truncating more mother/daughter time.

“Ghosts” star Rose McIver will sit behind the camera to direct an episode of the hit CBS comedy, it was revealed Saturday during the show’s panel at New York Comic-Con. The episode, which starts filming soon and will air in 2025, reps the first time McIver will helm a TV series.

On “Ghosts,” McIver plays Sam, who inherits an old, haunted mansion that she and husband Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) turn into a bed and breakfast — much to the chagrin of the ghosts that Sam can communicate with. This year, on the show’s one-hour Christmas special, viewers will get to meet Jay’s parents for the first time.

Sakina Jaffrey and Bernard White have been cast as Jay’s parents, Champa and Mahesh, in the two-part episode, which airs on Thursday, December 19.

New York Comic Con’s panel for CBS’ Ghosts revealed several surprises.

Series star Rose McIver is set to make her TV directorial debut in an episode that will soon be shot and aired in 2025. Additionally, Sakina Jaffrey and Bernard White will guest star as Jay’s (Utkarsh Ambudkar) parents in the one-hour Christmas special airing on Thursday, December 19.

Ghosts premiered its fourth season on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 8:30 Pm on CBS. The series stars McIver as Sam and Ambudkar as Jay, a couple who inherit a rundown mansion in upstate New York that they decide to convert into a bed and breakfast. After a near-death experience, Sam suddenly can see the ghosts that inhabit the house.

The cast also includes Brandon Scott Jones, Richie Moriarty, Danielle Pinnock, Asher Grodman, Román Zaragoza, Sheila Carrasco, Rebecca Wisocky and Devan Chandler Long.

Last week, CBS comedy Ghosts resolved an enormous cliffhanger in its season 3 premiere. Now episode 2, “Man of Your Dreams,” provides the answer to another long standing mystery. Tonight, Sas’ special supernatural power is revealed and it raises some ethical questions as to how he can alter the actions of the living.

“Man of Your Dreams” also serves as the transition point between the shock of the premiere and the plotlines that will dominate the remainder of this third season. Den of Geek spoke to Ghosts showrunners Joe Port and Joe Wiseman to discover why they chose to reveal Sas’ power and what fans can expect for the rest of this shorter-than-usual season.

“We still have a few big unanswered questions on the series,” Wiseman said. “We don’t know Pete or Hetty’s power, and we also don’t know how a couple of the ghosts died.
