As the Netflix sci-fi fantasy horror giant Stranger Thingsapproaches its conclusion, fans are eagerly anticipating what will surely be an epic finale. The show officially ends with a three-part release at the end of 2025, but in the meantime, you can get your Stranger Things fix in another format. The stage play Stranger Things: The First Shadow, which works as a spin-off prequel to the events in the TV series, is currently playing on Broadway, and judging by the trailer, it is well worth the price of admission.

As reported by Fangoria, the play is set in 1959, decades before the events of the show, as the Creel family moves to Hawkins, and young Henry starts showing the early signs of an eventual transformation. As revealed in the Netflix series, Henry Creel is the human who becomes the monstrous Vecna, transforming into something terrifyingly otherworldly after living for decades in the Upside Down.

“Stranger Things: The First Shadow,” the upcoming Broadway play based on the hit Netflix sci-fi drama, has added 24 performers to its company.

Among the new cast members are Ta’Rea Campbell (“The Hills of California”) as Patty’s mom, Juan Carlos (making his Broadway debut) replacing previously announced star Nicholas Eldridge as Bob Newby, Robert T. Cunningham (Broadway debut) as Charles Sinclair, Ayana Cymone (Broadway debut) as Sue Anderson, Ian Dolley (“The Holdovers”) as Walter Henderson, Dora Dolphin (Broadway debut) as Karen Childress, Logan Gould (“The Corps”) as Lonny Byers, Shea Grant (Broadway debut) as Claudia Yount, Ted Koch (“To Kill a Mockingbird”) as Chief Hopper, Jamie Martin Mann (Broadway debut) as Ted Wheeler and Eric Wiegand (“Plaza Suite”) as Alan Munson.

In addition to the principal cast, previously announced, the 34-member cast will include Janie Brookshire, Kelsey Anne Brown, Malcolm Callender, Ta’Rea Campbell, Juan Carlos as Bob Newby (replacing Nicholas Eldridge), Antoinette Comer, Robert T. Cunningham, Ayana Cymone, Tom D’Agustino, Victor de Paula Rocha, Ian Dolley, Dora Dolphin, Nya Garner, Logan Gould, Shea Grant, Rebecca Hurd, Ted Koch, Timothy Lawrence, Jamie Martin Mann, Patrick Scott McDermott, Stephen Wattrus, Maya West, Eric Wiegand and Graham Winton.

Previously, December 4, 2024: T.R. Knight, Alex Breaux and Gabrielle Nevaeh will be among those joining the previously announced Louis McCartney in Broadway’s upcoming production of Stranger Things: The First Shadow.

Broadway’s Plaza Suite, the Neil Simon revival starring Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker, announced a third extension today, citing ticket demand. The comedy will now run at the Hudson Theatre through Sunday, July 10.

Directed by John Benjamin Hickey, Plaza Suite was previously extended to make up for performances canceled after both stars tested positive for Covid. The engagement originally was planned through June prior to the extensions.

Plaza Suite also stars Danny Bolero as The Waiter, Molly Ranson as Jean McCormick/Mimsey Hubley, and Eric Wiegand as The Bellhop/Borden Eisler. The production marks the first time Broderick and Parker have shared a Broadway stage since the 1995 revival of How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.

Plaza Suite began previews on Broadway on Friday, February 25 and opened Monday, March 28. following a sold-out pre-Broadway engagement at Boston’s Emerson Colonial Theatre.

Based on a Japanese novel by writer Nanami Kamon and made with the participation of Japanese producers, I was expecting Room 203 to be yet another Anglicised J-horror in the mould of The Grudge but that’s not exactly what we get. Whilst yes, there may be some elements of J-horror for the most part this is a traditional haunted house movie. Only a hunted house movie that spends a Lot of its running time concentrating on the relationship between the two protagonists. Two broken, fragile women who both bring a lot of baggage to their new co-habiting life.

I often complain that contemporary schlock horror films throw too much at you — the if-this-formula-demon-or-scare-tactic-doesn’t-work-try-this-one approach to keeping an audience goosed. That said, I’m not sure if bare-bones, we’ve-only-got-one-formula-scare-tactic-in-our-bag minimalism is the answer. How do we know the place is meant to creep us out? Because they’re in room 203, which looks like a half-finished boutique hotel suite, and when you title a film “Room 203” you’re undoubtedly invoking “The Shining”. Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker will be joined in Broadway’s upcoming revival of Neil Simon’s Plaza Suite by Danny Bolero (In The Heights), Molly Ranson (Prayer for the French Republic) and, in his Broadway debut, Eric Wiegand, producers announced today.

Rounding out the cast will be Michael McGrath and Erin Dilly as standbys for Broderick and Parker.

Bolero will play The Waiter, Ranson will play Jean McCormack/ Mimsey Hubley, and Wiegand is cast as The Bellhop/Borden Eisler.

The revival begins previews at Broadway’s Hudson Theatre on Friday, February 25, with the official opening night set for Monday, March 28. A new block of tickets for the limited engagement went on sale today for tickets through June 26.
