Tom Morello had the massive undertaking of curating the musical performances during Black Sabbath’s Back to the Beginning concert — essentially a day-long fest featuring the greatest heavy metal acts on the planet, including the final performances by Ozzy and Sabbath. In a new interview with Los Angeles’ Klos-fm, the Rage Against the Machine guitarist discussed his year-long booking work as music director, which was a role assigned to him by Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne themselves.
“Well, I suppose the biggest challenge was just doing it justice,” Morello told host Full Metal Jackie [as transcribed by Blabbermouth]. “Heavy metal is the music that made me love music, and Black Sabbath invented heavy metal. So when I was tapped by Ozzy and Sharon to be the musical director, I took it really, really seriously and used all of my love of the genre and curatorial abilities to try to make something that was… The goal was very,...

Howard Stern returned to his SiriusXM show on Wednesday (August 6th) after a long summer break to discuss Ozzy Osbourne‘s passing with Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich, among other topics.
Osbourne died on July 22nd, just 17 days after performing a solo and Black Sabbath sets at the “Back to the Beginning” concert, where Metallica played right before him. Stern bluntly asked Ulrich, “Did you have a sense he was going to be dead in a few days?”
“No, no… we hung, we said hello, we hugged,” responded Ulrich (as transcribed by Billboard). The drummer went on to talk about taking photos with photographer Ross Halfin in the days before the concert. “He was there and the Sabbath guys were there and we all positioned ourselves around [Ozzy] and Ross was directing traffic and he asked me to sit on the armrest of Ozzy’s throne next to Ozzy.”
He added, “It was such a great moment,...

Praise for Ozzy Osbourne and the legacy he established through the heavy-metal mainstay Black Sabbath, as well as his later turn as an open collaborator and music industry legend, is pouring in following the musician’s death at age 76. Throughout his career, Osbourne shared the stage and the studio with genre- and generation-spanning collaborators, including Slash, Elton John, Motörhead, and Madonna, as well as Busta Rhymes, Yungblud, and Post Malone. Both his range and influence were expansive, heavily rooted in blazing a trail, leading the adventure, and living to tell the tale.

The documentary will follow Yungblud (whose real name is Dominic Harrison) at the famed Hansa Studios in Berlin, the same studio where David Bowie recorded Heroes, Iggy Pop made Lust for Life and U2 record Achtung Baby!, and where the singer recorded live performances of his latest album Idols, which came out June 20.
“I wanted to make a film that truly documents where we are right now, at this moment, around the release of my most ambitious album to date,” Yungblud said in a statement. “Berlin has always radiated complete, unfiltered truth. Every time I’ve visited Hansa Studios, it’s just fucking iconic. You can feel the history in Hansa; it’s in the silence between takes, the ceiling looming over you.

Reuniting onstage for the first time in two decades, Black Sabbath performed to a sold-out crowd of 40,000 with its all-star, one-day-only charity festival Back to the Beginning, held in Ozzy Osbourne’s hometown of Birmingham on July 5 and serving as a farewell concert to and celebration of the longtime rocker.
Held at Villa Park, the lineup billed heavy metal music royalty like Metallica, Alice in Chains, Guns N’ Roses, Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler, The Smashing Pumpkin’s Billy Corgan, Korn’s Jonathan Davis, Wolfgang Van Halen, Yungblud and many others. Jason Momoa was in attendance as the fete’s host alongside Adria Arjona, with the Aquaman star hyping up the audience on stage and even starting a circle pit in the crowd.

More than 50 years after first forming in Birmingham, England, Ozzy Osbourne and his pioneering metal band Black Sabbath are finally ready to retire from playing and making music.
Osbourne and his manager wife Sharon planned a grand culmination of sorts, gathering the biggest names in rock and metal to pay homage to the band’s influence during an all-day celebration and livestreamed event. Other seminal groups have been guilty of going back on their word after calling it quits, but Saturday’s show felt like both the band and the music community put (a very heavy) lid on the band’s legacy, and it was filled with love.
Titled “Back to the Beginning,” the 10 hour concert was held at Villa Park, just miles from where Osbourne and his mates grew up. It featured a stellar announced line-up and plenty of surprises courtesy of musical director Tom Morello (Rage Against the...

Corgan joined Tom Morello for covers of Judas Priest’s “Breaking the Law” and Black Sabbath’s “Snowblind.” Hagar sang Ozzy’s “Flying High Again,” while Ghost’s Papa performed Ozzy’s “Bark at the Moon. Since emerging in the late 2010s, the British yelper Yungblud — a.k.a. Doncaster, England-born Dominic Harrison — has become an anti-pop hero. His songs channeled the angst and agitation of youth into frenetic mini-anthems that musically reflected the on-shuffle mentality of the 21st century. Yungblud’s voice — a piercing yelp that exists somewhere between Gerard Way’s wail and Brian Molko’s sneer — slotted him in the alt-rock world, but his aspirations seemed to stretch far beyond that categorization.
With his fourth album Idols Yungblud harnesses those hopes and takes a very big swing.

Anime has long broken out of the confines of Japan. Anime is an international medium that caters to millions of fans. What does that indicate? It means that it is now time for the animation studios to think outside the box.
Their target audience is not just Japan, but the entire world. There are many works that include elements of Western culture, and sure, we have dubs in many languages. But Kaiju No. 8 shows the fans that anime can do more.
Like its very first season, Kaiju No. 8 has chosen another Western singer, Aurora, for the opening of Season 2. This could very well be the start of a trend, letting anime overlap with global influences.
The ‘English’ Opening controversy continues

Yungblud initially tried to make Idols right after his album 2020 Weird! hit Number One — but it didn’t come together at the time. Instead, he ended up working on Yungblud, his self-titled record from 2022 that, in his view, came together partially by “letting too many opinions in.”

Florence Pugh’s latest starring role is in Yungblud’s music video for his new track “Zombie.”

By the end of the video, a pair of angel wings appear on Pugh’s shoulders.
Of the track, Yunblud explained that “Zombie” was “written initially about my grandmother going through serious injury and trauma, leading her to become a different person to who she was before.”

Yungblud is back to announce a new album, Idols, out on June 20th. He’s also offered “Lovesick Lullaby” as the latest preview of Idols, and shared a slew of North American and UK/EU 2025 tour dates.
Idols serves as the British singer-songwriter’s fourth studio LP, and is part one of an upcoming double album. Thematically, it finds Yungblud digging into the idea of “hero worship” and needing validation from others. “We turn to others for an identity before turning to ourselves. Self-belief, self-reclamation, self-evolution and change,” Yungblud said in a press release. “As we grow up, we lose our belief in magic and mystery. We begin to rationalize everything; our cage walls build up. We compare ourselves to 15 different people before we’ve even had our breakfast.”
