On April 4, the 10-person jury of “Australian Survivor” voted unanimously to award the 500,000 grand prize to Mark Wales. Co-runners-up Shay Lajoie and Chrissy Zaremba both received zero votes. Host Jonathan Lapaglia live-tweeted the finale, and he suspects Shay’s poor jury management is part of the reason why she failed to earn a single vote. “Damn….the Jury were clearly not happy with Shay’s self appointed 8/10 for game play….but adding an extra half point was the salt in the wound,” he wrote.

Phase two of the competition has officially kicked into high gear, with the Red (Blood) tribe and the Blue (Water) tribe merging into one group. Khanh Ong and Melissa “Mel” Chiang were the first two boots of the Purple (Lava) tribe, and they’re both now members of the jury that will decide who ultimately wins the $500,000 grand prize.

Of the remaining 11 players, only Mark is holding onto a hidden immunity idol. Amazingly, he decided to keep that information from his wife Sam when the tribes merged, claiming he would have told her at a later date.

The ninth episode of “Australian Survivor: Blood V Water” began with 17 players still left in the game: eight on the Blue (Water) tribe (after Sophie Cachia was eliminated) and nine on the Red (Blood) tribe. It’s been one week in the game for the 24 players of “Australian Survivor: Blood V Water,” which under the Aussie format means three people have already been sent packing. For all you “Survivor” fans who aren’t able to watch, Gold Derby has recapped the first three episodes — Episode 1, Episode 2, Episode 3 — and we’ll be covering the show all throughout the season.
