“I tried to be as polite as possible”: The Wachowskis Didn’t Respect the Only Condition Alan Moore Had for ‘V for Vendetta’
Image
Alan Moore’s infamous dislike toward any and all adaptations of his works has been a very well-known and hotly debated topic in this industry. The author of such fundamentally revolutionary works as Watchmen and V for Vendetta has always kept himself at arm’s length from Hollywood, although the same cannot be said with the cases reversed.

One of the more controversial of his literary works is V for Vendetta whose anti-fascist commentary mixed with the morally and ethically corrupt protagonist of the story made it a difficult subject to convert into live-action. However, Hollywood did not shy away from the challenge, resulting in a fairly successful box-office movie that left Moore embittered to his core.

“Largely impotent American liberal fantasy”: Despite Creating V for Vendetta, Alan Moore Will Never Respect the $134M Natalie Portman Cult-Hit
Image
Alan Moore has been the genius behind some of the greatest works of fiction: Doctor Who, Watchmen, V for Vendetta, Batman: The Killing Joke, Swamp Thing, Constantine, and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen to name a few. His essential grasp over the grimdark, dysfunctional reality of this world has allowed him to craft some of the most exceptional and exquisite pieces of literature.

However, as is the case with most works of genius, such novels and comics have either been deemed completely unadaptable, too dense and difficult to convert into live-action, or condensed and edited for the audience’s clarity. When it comes to the latter, the original source text is often disregarded and changed in certain parts to meet the film’s vision – which, in turn, defeats the purpose of the original story.

V for Vendetta also suffered through a somewhat similar circumstance when...

'Reacher' and '1923' return, more to stream this week
Image
Robert Eggers’ chilling vampire tale ‘Nosferatu’ contributes to a busy week of new streaming premieres.

I hope you’re all enjoying a relaxing President’s Day! A short week is once again upon us, though I’m forced to sit back and consider why the NFL doesn’t wait an extra week for the Super Bowl so it can let fans have a day off the Monday after the Big Game.

Regardless of whether you’ve got a day off or not for President’s Day, I’ve assembled my usual list of new TV shows and movie premieres coming to streaming each and every day of the week. There are some pretty interesting choices available, so keep reading and see what you can watch on your favorite services!

Monday, Feb. 17 “Watchmen Chapter 2” streaming premiere | Max

Attack on Titan's Levi Was Inspired By Watchmen's Rorschach
Image
First making their debut in the Attack On Titan side story Captain Levi, Levi Ackerman has become one of the most popular characters in the Attack On Titan cast and one of modern anime's most iconic characters. However, when designing Levi, the manga's creator Hajime Isayama took inspiration from a surprising and very Western source.

Levi is a crucial character in Attack On Titan, growing roughly up on the streets of the Underground before joining the Survey Corps when he comes of age. Levi quickly proves that he is a strong and resilient fighter and earns the trust of those around him, leading to him becoming part of the elite Special Operations Squad. After Eren Yeager learns of his ability to transform into a Titan, he is put in the Special Operations Squad, with Levi overseeing him and his friends Mikasa Ackerman and Armin Arlert.

Nicholas Hoult Is Both Happy And Sad That He Didn't Get To Star In The Batman
Image
During the development of "The Batman," there were only two real contenders to be the Dark Knight: Robert Pattinson and Nicholas Hoult. Director Matt Reeves had been impressed by their recent performances and knew he wanted one of them to be his leading man. Both actors met with Reeves and had screen tests, and as you probably know by now, Pattinson got the part.

During the press tour for Hoult's new movie "Renfield," GQ España asked him whether he regrets missing out on Batman. "I'm sure if you ask most people, they'll tell you they'd want to portray that role," Hoult replied. However, beyond that, he wasn't bitter about it at all. He explained:

"When they tell you for the first time that it's not you, it's painful, but then you have to accept it as normality. I think that's probably a strength of mine as an actor as well.

Tom King On Transforming DC's Danger Street (Interview)
Image
Spoilers for Danger Street #1 by DC Comics

The world of the 1970s 1st Issue Special comic is being turned into a connected Danger Street story from Tom King, Jorge Fornes, and Dave Stewart, as the trio will tackle an ambitious new maxiseries for DC Comics. In Danger Street from DC Comics, heroes such as Doctor Fate, Metamorpho, and Lady Cop will star together in the much-anticipated comic book - with the wildly different characters meeting under chaotic circumstances.

The 1st Issue Special anthology from DC Comics was a largely failed attempt from the publisher to launch new series starring both new and old characters. Lasting 13 issues and featuring contributions from comic legends Joe Simon, Jack Kirby, and Steve Ditko, each issue was supposed to act as a launching point for titular heroes in a future comic book series. However, despite a cast of characters featuring Doctor Fate, Metamorpho, Starman, and new heroes such as Atlas,...

Watchmen: Nite Owl’s Bizarre Trait Has a Heartbreaking Origin
Image
It seems that the wild side of Watchmen's Nite Owl is rooted in the hero's heartbreaking past. The prequel series Before Watchmen: Nite Owl reveals Dan Dreiberg's most kinky self has a small connection to his brief fling with the vice queen, Twilight Lady.

Watchmen is a superhero deconstruction story that posits the idea of superheroes existing in the real-world and history being shaped by their presence. The story largely revolves around the retired heroes from the second wave of costumed crime-fighters, one of which is Dan Dreiberg, the second Nite Owl. During the story, Dan becomes romantically involved with the Silk Spectre, a fellow second generation superhero and former teammate. After an awkward attempt at hooking up, Nite Owl and Silk Spectre venture out to save a group of residents from a burning tenement. The success of the mission ends with the heroes having an amorous affair in Nite Owl's airship.

Watchmen: How Nite Owl and Rorschach Became Partners
Image
They're the oddest pair in the entire story of Watchmen, but somehow the fastidious Nite Owl became partners with the grubby street detective known as Rorschach. A glimpse into Dan Dreiberg's life in Before Watchmen: Nite Owl #1 reveals how the duo formed their iconic team-up.

Watchmen takes place in a universe much like the real-world, save for the presence of costumed adventurers. The addition of superheroes drastically changed the events of the Earth, whose politics, media, and culture all reflect the masks making themselves known. Two of the most well-known heroes in this world are Nite Owl and Rorschach, who were once part of the second wave of heroes known as the Crimebusters. While they worked well together, the two were about as opposite as can be. Nite Owl was the more idealistic of the two while Rorschach was an unbending, uncompromising fighter for justice.

Rorschach review: Mammootty’s thriller is dark and interesting
Image
ReviewDirector Nissam puts his powerful women characters in the ordinary garbs of village women, behaving like the typical mother or grieving wife, but exposing their depths when the time comes.CrisCredit- Sreenath N Unnikrishnan / Mammootty / FacebookIf someone mentions one more time that Mammootty, at the age of 71, looks way too stylish, even he will likely be bored. But any description of Rorschach, his new film that released on Friday, October 7, will be largely incomplete if you don’t mention style. You can imagine a generous pouring of the word when Sameer Abdul was writing the script, splendidly penned, weaving style with thrills, making it raw and loud all at the same time. Nissam Basheer, who began with a much-debated debut Kettyolaanu Ente Malakha, makes himself unpredictable by directing a film that is its polar opposite. Just as the film was about to begin, someone in the theatre shouted, “Show us our god,...
