Among several comedy releases from last year, Dìdi and Problemista garnered praise from audiences, maintaining Tomatometer scores of 95% and 86%, respectively. The Fall Guy, starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, also performed well critically, despite an underwhelming box office.

This year has produced some highly enjoyable and surprisingly successful comedy movies, notably Novocaine and The Materialists. However, an acclaimed comedy drama, The Ballad of Wallis Island, starring Carey Mulligan and Tom Basden and holding an impressive 97% Tomatometer, seemingly went unnoticed.

What happens when cinephilia tips into criminality? Stealing Pulp Fiction presents this tantalizing question through its high-concept plot. The film introduces us to Jonathan and Steve, two film enthusiasts whose reverence for Quentin Tarantino inspires a daring, if ill-conceived, scheme: to steal the director’s personal 35mm print of his 1994 masterpiece.

This self-aware heist comedy positions itself as a caper for the movie-literate generation, a story steeped in the very culture it aims to celebrate. It sets up a scenario rich with potential for satire and suspense. Yet, as the narrative unfolds, one is left to wonder if the filmmakers’ ambition to pay tribute to a cinematic icon was ultimately matched by their ability to deliver a coherent film.

Former ICM/CAA talent agent Chris Horsman, most recently manager at Principal Entertainment, is joining Gersh’s talent department. Promoted from coordinator to agent are Jamie Eisman in the talent department and Rachel Erickson in the TV Lit department.

Meanwhile, three talent agents are being let go: Mike Staudt, who had been at Gersh for more than a decade, Casey Larkin and Nathan Howard, along with alternative TV agent Matt Sorger. Their departures follow the exit last month of veteran TV lit agent Lynn Fimberg who had been at Gersh for more than two decades.

Staff turnover is not unusual for talent agencies, with the Gersh exits alongside the hires underscoring agencies’ current disciplined approach to headcount and costs amid an industry contraction and reduced volume of original series post-Peak TV.

When it comes to borrowing from other films, quality often determines the verdict—what some might call theft is generously reframed as “homage” or “inspiration.” However, Stealing Pulp Fiction is so overloaded with empty dialogue, hollow style, and shameless nods that it becomes fascinating just how charmless and dull the final product manages to be.

Now, I love a caper. And, I’ll add, I love Pulp Fiction, which changed movies forever. However, this is such an uninspired effort (albeit with good intentions), Stealing Pulp Fiction stretches a thin sitcom premise into an endlessly tedious ninety-minute ride that feels downright terminal.

While upbeat at a distance, self-reflexive heist caper “Stealing Pulp Fiction” seldom translates its good nature through story or style. Danny Turkiewicz’s feature debut follows a pair of best friends in over their heads as they try to steal Quentin Tarantino’s personal 35mm film print of his 1994 indie landmark “Pulp Fiction.” However, malformed comedy and character beats keep the movie feeling like a rough first draft.

With a score that harkens back to the “Pulp Fiction” soundtrack — and to Keith Mansfield’s “Funky Fanfare,” the groovy tune played over tie-dye “Our Feature Presentation” pre-movie title cards in the ’60s and revived for repertory screenings — the film has no dearth of musical in-jokes. However, that’s the extent of its meta-textual prowess, in spite of its ceaseless references to Tarantino.

Warner Bros. Discovery has announced the movies, TV shows, and live sports that will be available on the Max (soon to be called HBO Max) streaming service in July. The Max July 2025 lineup includes the feature films Sinners, A24’s On Becoming a Guinea Fowl, Opus, and Death of a Unicorn, and Utopia’s I Love You Forever.

Trainwreck is a romantic sex comedy film directed by Judd Apatow from a screenplay by Amy Schumer. The 2015 film follows Amy Townsend, a promiscuous and free-spirited young woman working as a magazine writer. When she is tasked with writing about a prominent orthopaedic surgeon named Aaron Conners, she finds herself attracted to him despite her fear of relationships. Trainwreck stars Schumer, Bill Hader, Brie Larson, Colin Quinn, John Cena, Tilda Swinton, and LeBron James.

Jon Rudnitsky never got much of a chance to make a splash on Saturday Night Live when he was a one-and-done featured player in Season 41. One reason for his abbreviated tenure? It could be this unforced error in a Peter Dinklage sketch, Rudnitsky said on the SNL Stories podcast, as reported by LateNighter.

The “Mafia Meeting” sketch, more popularly known as “Space Pants,” gets off to a weird start with mobster Bobby Moynihan waiting at an empty table in a cocktail lounge. Beck Bennett ushers in a solo Pete Davidson, which makes Moynihan’s next line nonsensical: “You two boys are hard to track down, almost as if you were avoiding me.” You two boys? I Love You Forever gets ugly fast in a vapid and nearly unwatchable journey of a toxic relationship's painfully predictable unraveling. Romance isn't on the menu as low self-esteem, psychological abuse, and trauma bonding battle for screen time in a cringe-worthy satire of Gen Z dating malaise. There might have been a sliver of connection in the awful dialogue if any of the characters had even a drop of chemistry. None exists where a sawdust dry cast feels mismatched from the start.

Law student Mackenzie (Sofia Black-d'Elia) prepares to get amorous with her truly despicable friend with benefits. Jake (Raymond Cham Jr.) has been Mackenzie's go-to hookup and couldn't care less about her except for the easy sex. Their opening conversation is particularly revolting and frames Mackenzie's personal woes. She's desperate for affection and doesn't believe anyone can truly love her.

Ah, it's the holidays once again, which can only mean one thing: it's time to watch corny, cheesy, and deliciously awful holiday movies.
