Image
Acclaimed chef Naomi Pomeroy, who competed on Top Chef Masters and served as a guest judge on Top Chef, has died at the age of 49.

Pomeroy drowned while inner-tubing on Portland’s Willamette River with her husband Kyle Linden Webster earlier this month, her family says. A fast-moving current flipped over their flotilla, and Webster made it safely back to shore, but Pomeroy did not. Her body has not yet been recovered.

Tyler Florence in The Great Food Truck Race (2010)
‘Food Truck Race’ Chef/Host Tyler Florence Hones Skills Beyond the Stove
Tyler Florence in The Great Food Truck Race (2010)
“We’re going to make a lot of people happy today,” chef Tyler Florence promised recently on Instagram as he stirred a massive stock pot of Thai green curry. Florence and a team of World Central Kitchen volunteers were feeding first responders and evacuees of the Kincade Fire, which hit Sonoma Country, at the Santa Rosa County Fairgrounds. More than 6,000 hot meals were served daily during the firestorm’s peak.

Florence, who calls Northern California home, will launch the 11th season of “The Great Food Truck Race” this month, which he hosts. Hosting and being part of TV shows is only one of his responsibilities. He recently established a lifestyle content and production company, Monarch Collective, producing the behind-the-scenes extras for “Race” and other assignments. “The Extra Mile” provides bonus content surrounding “The Great Food Truck Race.”

Slated for a 2020 opening, Florence’s steakhouse Miller & Lux will adjoin San Francisco...

It’s a cold day in ‘Hell’s Kitchen’ as Chef Ramsay pulls a twist that puts everything on ice: Episode 4 recap
Season 4 returnee Jen Gavin couldn’t stand the heat she was getting from Chef Gordon Ramsay last week on “Hell’s Kitchen” after their kerfuffle over missing duck garnish, and her mouthing off got her sent packing. That means both the Veterans and the Rookies have lost one chef-testant now.

To cool things off, this week’s episode is titled “When Hell Freezes Over,” which could also be the answer to the question of when Jen might be invited back. As Rookie Chris Mendonca says, “That’s loony tunes at its finest, bro. Jen had an opportunity that people would kill for. To come back and she spits on Chef Ramsey’s face like that? What the (bleep) were you thinking?” Below, check out our “Hells Kitchen” recap for Season 18, Episode 4 that aired Friday, October 19 on Fox.

Jen soon becomes stale news, however, as Chris and his Red Team mates...

Alton Brown in The Next Iron Chef (2007)
'I Never Look At The Glass Half Empty'
Alton Brown in The Next Iron Chef (2007)
Who: Elizabeth Falkner: San Francisco celebrity chef, Citizen Cake and Orson founder and "The Next Iron Chef" runner-up.

Years in Sf: 25 years

Current Gig: Falkner became "The Next Iron Chef" runner-up on Sunday night, focusing the spotlight squarely on San Francisco. But with the sudden closure of both of her restaurants -- Citizen Cake and Orson -- the local dining scene is wondering what's next for our culinary star.

Elizabeth, on Sunday, you competed in the finale of "The Next Iron Chef," with Geoffrey Zakarian taking the prize. What's it like competing on a show like that? It's totally fun, but it's insane at the same time. It's a completely different environment than working in a restaurant. In the kitchen, if one of your chefs is going down in flames, you're not going to let them just burn up in the corner -- you're going to help them get it together.

Female Chefs Dish at the New York City Wine and Food Festival
Getty From left to right, chefs Traci Des Jardines, Anita Lo, Amanda Cohen, and Carla Hall in New York City.

“Are you the pastry chef?”

That’s the question that catering company owner and television personality Carla Hall (ABC’s The Chew, Bravo’s Top Chef) says she dreads hearing the most as a female culinary professional. And apparently, she’s not alone among women chefs in facing such stereotypes.

Hall’s observation helped fuel a lively hour-long panel, dubbed...

Top Chef Master's Champ: "I Think I Deserved to Win"
Floyd Cardoz
Floyd Cardoz is feeling pretty darn good today. The NYC-based executive chef outcooked fellow cheftestants Mary Sue Milliken and Traci Des Jardins, taking the top spot on last night's Top Chef Masters finale. So does Cardoz think he deserved to take home the $110,000 in prizes? And would he ever do it again? Read on for our exclusive interview... Congratulations! So when you started Masters, did you ever think you would make it all the way? No. You know, they were all very, very talented chefs. To go into a competition saying "I'm going to win no matter what" always takes you away from who you truly are, and that's something that I wasn't going to do. Do you think...

Top Chef Masters Finalist Traci Des Jardins Gives Us 5 Tips For Mastering The Restaurant Business
Restaurants are notoriously difficult businesses, and less than half make it past their third birthday. The handful of chefs who not only stay afloat but rise to the very top rely as much on business savvy as knife skills. Traci Des Jardins, a finalist in this season's Top Chef Masters and host of the 2011 James Beard Awards, tells Fast Company how to make it work.

Restaurants are a notoriously difficult business, and less than half make it past their third birthday. The handful of chefs who rise to the very top rely as much on business savvy as cooking skills. One such chef is Traci Des Jardins, the co-owner of the San Francisco fine dining restaurant Jardiniére and Mexican joint Mijita. She is also a chef and partner in a ballpark pub at San Francisco's At&T Park, and Manzanita at the Ritz-Carlton in Lake Tahoe. Des Jardins, a finalist...

Top Chef Masters (2009)
Recap: The winner of 'Top Chef Masters' is named
Top Chef Masters (2009)
It’s the finals of “Top Chef Masters”! Someone ring the bell, it’s time for the death match to begin! Okay, it’s not a death match, but everyone’s so polite and friendly on this show that we need to spice things up a little. In one corner, we have Mary Sue Milliken of Border Grill of Los Angeles and Las Vegas. She’s playing for Share Our Strength. In the other corner, we have Traci des Jardins of Jardiniere in San Francisco. She’s playing for La Cucina. And… in a third corner, I guess it’s more a triangle-shaped ring, Floyd Cardoz of North...

‘Top Chef Masters’: Who Won the Finale?
Curtis Stone in The Apprentice (2004)
Bravo Host Curtis Stone

What’s the secret to success for a Top Chef Master? Apparently, it all comes down to Kiss. As in Keep It Simple, Stupid.

On Wednesday night, Floyd Cardoz, the New York chef behind the contemporary Indian restaurant, Tabla, took home the top prize of $100,000 in the third season of Bravo’s “Top Chef Masters.” And his winning meal included an utterly simple dish that divided the prestigious panel of judges – namely, upma, a breakfast and...

Top Chef Masters (2009)
'Top Chef Masters' premiere: Does a rebooted 'Masters' pack the same punch?
Top Chef Masters (2009)
Top Chef Masters is serving up something new this season — actually, several new things. In last night’s premiere, we learned that Australian chef and Celebrity Apprentice contestant Curtis Stone has replaced pretty charisma vacuum Kelly Choi as the show’s host, while judges Gael Greene and Jay Raynor have been succeeded by former Gourmet editrix Ruth Reichl. Perhaps most importantly, the series has also traded its old, tournament-style format for a more conventional reality show scheme — all of the contestants started competing at the same time, and one of them will be eliminated each episode. That’s a lot of change to stomach,...

Curtis Stone talks some of the big changes on new season of "Top Chef Masters"
Los Angeles, CA, United States (Ahn Entertainment) - Just when you thought it was safe to get back into the kitchen following that awesome, nail-biting season of "Top Chef All-Stars," there's already a brand new "Top Chef" season premiering this week: "Top Chef Masters."

This time, "Top Chef Masters" is being changed up for the better: gone are the Tournament-style first rounds which saw four or five chefs pitted up against another until the finalists competed for the title. Instead, like "Top Chef," all the cheftestants are starting out together from the start and battling it out for the title each week.

Also in as host this time is unnecessarily good looking chef and restaurateur Curtis Stone, who's can also be currently seen on NBC's "America's Next Great Restaurant." If you know anything about Curtis Stone, he's likable, affable, but judges as hard as the best of them. Longtime food...
