Fantasy covers a wide range of topics, whether it’s superheroes, ghosts, witches, vampires, or others. There can be high fantasy or low fantasy, depending on whether you want it to be completely fantastical or rooted in reality.

Michael Schur started his career as a writer for Saturday Night Live and later gained success after writing and producing one of the best sitcoms of all time, The Office. After the series ended, he went on and created several other iconic shows, including The Good Place.

The fantasy-comedy series premiered on NBC on Sept. 19, 2016, and aired for four seasons until Jan 30, 2020. The series quickly became a fan-favorite, not just because of the impeccable performances, but because of its unique approach to the afterlife, philosophical themes, and its unexpected Bad Place twist. Five years after the finale,The Good Place will lose its streaming home, as it will leave Netflix on Sept.

The Toxic Avenger‘s monster dong isn’t the only genre title provoking controversy, as Christian moms are rallying against the new gateway horror movie Sketch.

In the film, a young girl’s notebook falls into a mysterious pond, bringing her monstrous drawings to life. While navigating grief following the loss of her mother, the girl must band together with her family to save their town from the vibrant but dangerous creatures.

Sketch was produced independently but acquired by Angel Studios following its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival last year. No stranger to notoriety, Angel is the distributor behind 2023’s Sound of Freedom.

It seems that Angel’s catalog of overtly Christian-themed output set preconceived notions for some viewers with which Sketch — a monster adventure with no religions connotations — does not align.

The indie outfit Angel Studios has a history of hitting the target as far as its core demographic is concerned. The studio’s latest offering, the animation/live-action hybrid Sketch, was released to positive reviews and a strong audience reception this week. The movie is facing off at the box office against the Warner Bros. horror film Weapons, and the Disney sequel Freakier Friday. Both of these have also received positive reviews and immense fan support, which pushed them to exceed box office expectations. Sketch, on the other hand, barely found a spot on the top 10 list.

The movie grossed around $5 million in an extended five-day debut. Starring Tony Hale and D’Arcy Carden, it earned an A- grade from opening day audiences, according to the polling platform CinemaScore. This puts it in the same category as fellow children’s films Harold and the Purple Crayon, Tom & Jerry, and Space Jam: A New Legacy.

Five years after the show's finale, two fan-favorites had a mini-reunion in London. In a new post on Instagram, Jameela Jamil, who played Tahani Al-Jamil, revealed she reunited with Manny Jacinto, who played Jason Mendoza, for a brief walk as he's busy promoting his latest film, Freakier Friday.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Timothy Simons stepped out to support their former co-star Tony Hale at the premiere of his new film Sketch on Monday night (July 28) at Cinemark Playa Vista in Los Angeles.

Tony and co-star D’Arcy Carden walked the carpet together and following the screening, Timothy moderated a Q&a with the cast and director.

Here’s the synopsis of the film: “Still reeling from the unexpected loss of his wife, a single dad (Hale) navigates uncharted territory when his daughter’s comically dark drawings begin to come to life and wreak havoc on their small town.”

Maya Rudolph’s “Loot” finally has a Season 3 premiere date — along with a new teaser promising more billionaire shenanigans as well as resolution for the Season 2 finale’s romantic cliffhanger.

Apple TV+ revealed Tuesday that the comedy series will return Oct. 15 with the first two episodes, followed by new installments Wednesdays through Dec. 10. A teaser for the new season featured Rudolph’s Molly Wells gently caressing a giant crystal, before the camera moved to her coworker/love interest Arthur (Nat Faxon) in her kitchen, a promising sign of their relationship status after the Season 2 finale left it on a cliffhanger.

Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers hosted the 2025 Las Culturistas Culture Awards last night and we have all the photos from the star-studded event!

As one of the most beloved sitcoms of the 21st century, it's no surprise that the stars of The Good Place are still discussing their experience working on the TV show. The Five-Star Weekend is an upcoming drama series produced by Universal Content Production (UCP). Bekah Brunstetter, who is known for writing for shows such as This Is Us and Maid, is the series creator. She also serves as writer and executive producer. Additionally, Beth Schacter is signed on as a writer and executive producer. Hilderbrand executive produces as well.

Golden Globe Award-winning actress Jennifer Garner was the first actor to be attached to the project. She not only stars in the series, but is also an executive producer. She takes on the lead role as Hollis Shaw, a famous food influencer who suffers a terrible loss.

Alison Brie (Community, Glow) is set to star in FX’s as-yet-untitled witness protection pilot, Deadline reports.

In the potential drama, “a violent confrontation drives a high-end D.C. madam (played by Brie) to turn on her partner and enter witness protection in seaside Maine with her adolescent daughter,” according to the official logline.

At Nantucket Film Festival’s “Flipping the Script: Bestsellers to Screen” panel on Sunday, Hilderbrand was joined by Jenna Lamia, the showrunner of “The Perfect Couple” and the team from the upcoming “Five-Star Weekend” series, writer and producer Bekah Brunstetter, UCP executive Jen Gwartz, NBCUniversal’s Lisa Katz and producer Sue Naegle.

“The Five-Star Weekend” is currently in production, starring Jennifer Garner, Regina Hall, Chloë Sevigny, Gemma Chan, D’Arcy Carden and Timothy Olyphant. But it’s one of many in the works for Hilderbrand, whose first adaptation was “The Perfect Couple.”

“St. Denis Medical” has been one of the freshest, funniest new comedies of the 2024-2025 TV season, and its co-creators and cast know why: It’s deeply rooted in truth. Creator, showrunner, and writer Eric Ledgin even did his own research to find out if hospital staff really do have sex in the on-call rooms, as shown on so many TV medical dramas.

Ledgin was joined by co-creator and writer Justin Spitzer and actors Wendi McLendon-Covey, Allison Tolman, Josh Lawson, Mekki Leeper, and Kaliko Kauahi for an IndieWire Consider This Live Event moderated by actress D’Arcy Carden at Vidiots Foundation in Los Angeles’s Eagle Rock neighborhood on May 29. Marcus Scribner has copped a major new role: The black-ish star has joined the cast of Boston Blue, CBS’ Donnie Wahlberg-led Blue Bloods offshoot.

Per Variety, Scribner will play rookie officer Jonah Silver, the youngest member of a law enforcement family that also includes his mother, District Attorney Mae Silver (Gloria Reuben); his sister, Detective Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green); and his stepsister, Boston Police Department Superintendent Sarah Silver (Maggie Lawson). Ernie Hudson also co-stars as Jonah’s grandfather, Reverend Edwin Peters.
