Writers/directors Brea Grant (Torn Hearts) and Ed Dougherty (co-writer of Paint It Black) have wrapped production on their four-part horror anthology Grind, Deadline reports, adding that filming took place in the Los Angeles area. Grant got her start as an actress, working on such projects as Friday Night Lights, Midnight Movie, Heroes, Dexter, Rob Zombie’s Halloween II, and Ice Road Terror. She made her feature directorial debut with the 2013 film Best Friends Forever, and has since directed Torn Hearts, 12 Hour Shift, and episodes of Pandora, among other things. Doughterty has previously directed multiple short films and music videos.

Brea Grant (Torn Hearts) and Ed Dougherty (Paint It Black) are the writers and directors of upcoming horror anthology Grind, and Deadline lets us know what to expect this week.

The site details, “Recently wrapping production in Los Angeles, Grind‘s stories center around the gig economy, hustle culture, and the evils of late-stage capitalism.”

The cast includes James Paxton (Twisters), Christopher Marquette, James Urbaniak (Oppenheimer), Rob Huebel (Transparent), Barbara Crampton (Suitable Flesh), Vinny Thomas (Platonic), Aubrey Shea (Nashville), Courtney Pauroso (Reno 911!), Ify Nwadiwe (Grand Crew), Jessika Van (Seoul Searching), James A. Janisse (Scream), Sharlene Cruz (In the Summers), Jon Gabrus (101 Places to Party Before You Die), Teri Gamble (Mrs. Davis), Hannah Alline (Doom Patrol) and Gigi Saul Guerrero (Culture Shock).

It has been a busy year for actress-director-author Amber Tamblyn. She’s released her feature directorial debut, is starring in a play and just gave birth to her first child.

At 34, Tamblyn is more than used to juggling a personal life and a professional one. She’s been working for over two decades, beginning with General Hospital and then becoming a household face as Joan on the CBS drama Joan of Arcadia before playing Tibby in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. But it’s this new job that’s completely unique to her.

In Amber Tamblyn’s impressive debut feature Paint It Black, a suicide sets up a tug of war between two unlikely interconnected foes: Josie (Alia Shawkat), a student who gets by modeling for a drawing class, and Meredith (Janet McTeer), a wealthy pianist, the mother of Josie’s ex-lover Michael (Rhys Wakefield). Exclusive: Bloody Disgusting learned that Ed Dougherty (Blackout) has been hired to do a rewrite on Marcel Sarmiento and Gadi Harel's Merciless, Gold Circle's forthcoming remake of the Danish thriller Morke (Murke). The original tells the story of Jacob who, after his brain-injured sister dies from supposedly slitting her wrists on her wedding night, follows the trail of her mysterious fiance. Jacob soon finds that this man has a routine of killing crippled brides-to-be, and therefor he must face his sister's death and risk his own life to make sure the self-acclaimed "Angel of Death" does not strike again. Word has it Dougherty will be incorporating a high concept cutting edge science angle to the thriller. Marcel Sarmiento and Gadi Harel also directed the indie coming-of-age thriller Deadgirl.

Amber Tamblyn has signed on to star in Blackout, an indie thriller being directed by Rigoberto Castaneda. Simon O'Leary and Valerio Morabito are producing. The script, by Ed Dougherty and Morabito, revolves around three people who are trapped in a hospital elevator for almost 24 hours as what at first seems like an inconvenience turns into a nightmare. Tamblyn will play a young woman who is trying to get to her grandmother in the hospital who is moments away from death.
