Exclusive: Ahead of its world premiere tonight, the Zorro TV series adaptation has landed a trio of European deals, as Mediawan Rights leans further into big-ticket IP.

M6 Groupe in France, Mediaset in Italy, Dpg Media’s Tvm channels in Flemish-speaking Belgium and Rtl Klub in Hungary have acquired the series, which is a Secuoya Studios production for Amazon Prime Video in the U.S, Latin America, Spain, Portugal and Andorra. Other deals are in negotiations.

The ten-part series premieres tonight at the Grand Auditorium in the Palais des Festivals, with the screening of the the iconic franchise’s reinterpretation followed by a Q&a with actors Miguel Bernardeau (Elite), Renata Notni and Dalia Xiuhcoatl and executives including Secuoya Studios’ Sergio Pizzolante.

Mediawan has been pushing into louder and more expensive scripted IP over the past few years, and has supercharged its efforts after striking a $100M+ funding deal with Entourage Ventures.

The first teaser for Mediawan's Zorro reboot introduces Miguel Bernardeau as the new masked hero, known as Don Diego de la Vega. Zorro originated in the early 20th century as stories in pulp magazines, and the character has been portrayed onscreen multiple times, notably by Guy Williams and Antonio Banderas. Zorro has become a popular pop culture figure, with multiple projects in development, including a scrapped series on The CW and an upcoming Disney TV project with Wilmer Valderrama as producer and lead actor.

Mediawan Rights has unveiled the first teaser of the anticipated “Zorro” series reboot which is directed by Javier Quintas and is set to premiere on opening night of Mipcom.

Produced by leading Spanish company Secuoya Studios, the show marks the IP’s big television comeback almost two decades after its last live-action adaptation. The Spanish-language series will have its premiere screening at Mipcom on Oct. 15. Prime Video has already bought “Zorro” for the U.S., Latin America, Spain, Andorra and Portugal. Mediawan Rights is repping other territories.

“Zorro” underscores Mediawan Rights’s ambition to ramp up its portfolio of prestige IP’s boasting global appeal through its partnership with Entourage Ventures which has given the distribution arm a larger investment capacity.

Mediawan Rights has boarded the highly anticipated “Zorro” series reboot, produced by leading Spanish company Secuoya Studios.

Mediawan Rights is set to distribute the event series internationally. The show started shooting on July 25 in Spain and will be filming until the end of the year.

Written by Carlos Portela (“Velvet Collection”), the modern reboot will mark the IP’s big television comeback almost two decades after its last live-action adaptation. John Gertz, founder of Zorro Productions and a producer on “The Mask of Zorro” and “The Legend of Zorro” movies titles, is an executive producer on the show.

Set in the 1830s in Los Angeles, the flagship series stars Miguel Bernardeau, known for his role in the Spanish hit show “Elite,” in the lead role, opposite Mexican actress Renata Notni who will play Lolita Marquez. Dalia Xiucoatl, Emiliano Zurita and Joel Bosqued complete the cast. Javier Quintas is directing the series.

Madrid — Sergi López and Laia Marull co-star in rites-of-passage drama “La Inocencia” (Innocence), the feature debut of Lucía Alemany, a key name in a generation of often very young women cineastes now energizing Catalan cinema.

Starring Carmen Arrufet in her first lead role, and Joel Bosqued (“Que baje dios y lo vea”), “Innocence” marks a follow-up to Alemany’s multi-prized short “14 Years and a Day.” Produced by Morena Films, and a take on adolescent angst, budding sexuality and daughter-mother conflict set in a nosy Spanish village where privacy is near impossible, the short marked out Alemany, an alum of Barcelona’s Escac film school, as very much a director to track.
