New Delhi, Dec 31 (Ians) Former Australian cricketer Callum Ferguson has backed veteran left-handed opener, David Warner, to dominate the side’s Test series against India to be held in February-March next year.

His comments come after Warner scored a fantastic double-century in 255 balls in his 100th Test match to give Australia a series-clinching victory by an innings and 182 runs against South Africa in the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (McG).

After the third and final Test against South Africa at Sydney, Australia’s next Test assignment will be a tour of India for four Tests as part of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Warner, who also crossed the 8000-run mark during the McG Test, is the most experienced campaigner, having toured the country thrice for Test tours previously. He is yet to make a Test century on Indian soil, averaging just 24.25.

Sydney, Feb 6 (Ians) Australia batsman Steve Smith beat Pat Cummins by 12 votes to win the Allan Border Medal, the highest honour in Australian men's cricket.

This is the third time he is winning the prestigious medal. He was pipped by David Warner by one vote last year.

The right-handed batsman made the most runs for Australia across all formats in the voting period with 1,098 at an average of 45.75. The effort was built on four half centuries and four centuries.

"I was a bit surprised. I don't know, I didn't feel like I had the biggest Test summer, which I think holds the most votes. I think my one-day cricket was pretty good last year, so I obviously got a lot of votes there," said Smith after winning the medal.

"I didn't expect it. I thought Marnus or Pat Cummins were probably the front-runners because they both had exceptional years.

Melbourne, Feb 2 (Ians) Former Australian fast-bowler Merv Hughes has been inducted into the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame.

An integral part of Australian cricket's return to the top of the Test cricket rankings, Hughes' career spanned 53 Tests and 33 ODIs from 1985-94, taking 212 Test wickets at an average of 28.38.

"Merv Hughes was an icon of the Australian summer for so many of us, a larger-than-life personality, a wonderful international cricketer, an ambassador for the sport and a deserved inductee into the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame," Peter King, Australian Cricket Hall of Fame Chairman, said in a statement.

Amanda Seyfried stars in the film alongside MacFarlane, her Louise dumping his Albert before she falls into the arms of the mustachioed Foy (Neil Patrick Harris).
