Sam Rockwell in Moon (2009)
The Dead Want Women Noir: another Full Moon horror film gets the black & white treatment
Sam Rockwell in Moon (2009)
Last year, Charles Band’s company Full Moon announced that they were launching a new production label called Pulp Noir, which would focus on “edgier, weirder, darker horror and dark fantasy films.” Two Pulp Noir movies, Quadrant and Death Streamer, have since made their way through production – and while those movies were initially released in color, all of the Pulp Noir movies will also get black & white “noir” releases, so there are both color and black & white versions of Quadrant and Death Streamer available on the Full Moon Features streaming service. While we wait for more Pulp Noir movies to be made, Band has started going through the Full Moon library to give some of their older films the black & white / noir treatment. Last month, a “noir” version of the 1984 sci-fi thriller Christmas classic Trancers was released through Full Moon Features and YouTube, as was a black & white version of the 1997 creature feature The Creeps.

‘Evil Bong 888: Infinity High’ Review
Image
Stars: Sonny Carl Davis, Diana Prince, Israel Sharpe, Bree Essrig, Whitney Moore, Robin Sydney, Cody Renee Cameron, Christiana Cinn, Circus-Szalewski, Kaius Harrison, Noelle Ann Mabry | Written by Kent Roudebush | Directed by Charles Band

Seventeen years after the original, and four years since the last film in the franchise, Evil Bong 777, Evil Bong 888: Infinity High brings the saga of EeBee to a close. At least that’s what director and Full Moon head honcho, Charles Band is saying now, but as we all knew, he’s never met a sequel he didn’t like.

Rabbit has finally decided to turn over a new leaf and become a legit businessman, a restaurateur to be precise. While his first day in business doesn’t bring him much business it does bring him a Maître d’, or Maître Double d’ as he puts it, Thomasina “Tom” Atkins.

But there are also problems...

‘Antrum’ VOD Review
Nicole Tompkins
Stars: Nicole Tompkins, Rowan Smyth, Dan Istrate, Circus-Szalewski, Shu Sakimoto, Kristel Elling, Lucy Rayner, Pierluca Arancio, A.J. Bond, Nathan Fleet, Brock Fricker, Assen Gadjalov | Written and Directed by David Amito, Michael Laicini

When you call your movie ’the deadliest film ever made’ you’re either brave, or stupid. Or I guess extremely confident in what you have produced. You open yourself up to a whole lot of criticism, mainly because people will expect something that they are very unlikely to get.

I kept my expectations low though. I actually liked that the filmmakers had gone with that tagline and also sent this line – “By watching Antrum you agree that Jinga Films and Sc Movies is hereby released of all liability for any event that might occur to you during or after your viewing” – to whoever was sent the screener. If you’re going to make this kind of movie, you...

‘Fury: The Tales of Ronan Pierce’ DVD Review
Stars: Michael McCarthy, Jordan Elizabeth, Kane Hodder, R.A. Mihailoff, Harry Aspinwall, Brad Potts, Wade Gallagher, Rick Montgomery Jr., Joel D. Wynkoop, Circus-Szalewski, Robert Crayton, David Astone, Tovah Duffaut | Written by Kevin A. McCarthy, Michael McCarthy | Directed by Kevin A. McCarthy, Edward Payson

You know, I can get behind bad films; I can get behind films made intentionally to be bad (the “so bad its good” type of flicks) but there’s no way I can get behind a film whose sole purpose it seems is to rip-off other intentionally badly-made movies. That’s just lazy filmmaking.

Seemingly a cash-grab made to coincide with the debut of Kung Fury – with whom this film shares a Lot of it tropes, including the grizzled heroes narration - Fury: The Tales of Ronan Pierce is a low-budget take on the likes of Sin City and its ilk. It is a graphic novel brought to life on the screen,...

Live-Action Short for Loadout: Going In Hot with Richard Hatch
Machinima Prime has released a very fun sci-fi short film called Loadout: Going in Hot, which is a live action adaption of the third-person shooter video game of the same name. The short stars Battlestar Galactica's Richard Hatch as Captain Gaz. The story follows the Captain and his loyal crew on an adventure that brings excitement and absurdity. If you've played the game, then you'll notice some of the key elements from it in the short. If you haven't played the game, it's still an entertaining watch.

The short was directed by Vincent Talenti (Red Star, Fallout: Nuka Break) and this is the synopsis:

Battlestar Galatica's Richard Hatch captains a crew of merchant marines in space who compete with other local haulers in the highly profitable (and extremely dangerous) antiquities and curios shipping business. Gaz and his crew scramble to avert a ship-wide disaster; while racing against the clock and Gaz’s arch nemesis,...

Richard Hatch at an event for Battlestar Galactica (2004)
'Loadout' Interview with Richard Hatch | Exclusive
Richard Hatch at an event for Battlestar Galactica (2004)
Richard Hatch has been a favorite of genre fans for decades, after starring in all three versions of Battlestar Galactica, the original movie the 1970s TV series and the highly-popular remake. The actor returns to the sci-fi genre with a unique short film entitled Loadout: Going In Hot, which will debut on Machinima Prime on December 16. The short is inspired by the popular third-person shooter that was created, developed, and released by Edge of Reality, starring Richard Hatch as Captain Gaz.

In a novel twist on the well-traveled sci-fi genre, Loadout: Going In Hot follows a group of "merchant marines in space" who compete with other local haulers in the highly profitable (and extremely dangerous) antiquities and curios shipping business. Like other critically acclaimed sci-fi properties (Firefly, Battlestar Galactica), Loadout: Going In Hot is peppered with genre action and violence while focusing on character development and interactions. I recently had...

Nudity and Gags Abound in Zombies Vs. Strippers: A Movie Review
*full disclosure: an online screener of this film was provided by Full Moon Features. Director: Alex Nicolaou. Wriers: Nick Francomano, Alex Nicolaou, and Kent Roudebush. Cast: Jonathan Erickson Eisley, Eve Mauro, Circus-Szalewski, Brad Potts, Leroy Patterson, and Michael Cassidy. Zombies vs. Strippers is the latest film production from the Los Angeles based Full Moon Features. This film should not be confused with Zombies! Zombies! Zombies! aka Strippers vs. Zombies (2008) or Zombie Strippers (2008) or Strippers vs. Werewolves (2012) or the upcoming Strippers vs. Vampires (2013). Yes, these are all actual films. Zombies vs Strippers does not really separate itself from these other films as the focus here is on creating campy fun. That fun comes through in the silly dialogue, strange action scenes and over-the-top caricatures. The Tough Titty is a strip bar that is going out of business. The Tough Titty is seemingly located in an abandoned industrial park. So, when the.

Martini Mom & Devil Spawn (2012)
Directed by: Devi Snively

Written by: Devi Snively

Cast: Cynthia Dane, Gillian Shure, Circus-Szalewski, Wally Ruston, Ian Strandberg

It's official, my friends: The bar is now open. The first episode of writer/director Devi Snively's sparkling new webseries, Martini Mom & Devil Spawn, has been posted and it is indeed a strange brew.

Poor Rosemary. All she wants is a drink and a smile, but an ill-advised one-night stand provides oh so much more. Martini Mom & Devil Spawn is the tale of a, shall we say, directionless young woman whose aperitif existence becomes increasingly complicated when she bears the spawn of Satan.

Martini Mom is best described as a screwball comedy with a cutting edge. When I spoke with Snively recently about the DVD release of Trippin', her first feature, she called the series "Rosemary's Baby meets Absolutely Fabulous with South Park /Family Guy-esque satirical humor, and the occasional gore and/or musical number.

Trippin' (2011)
Directed by: Devi Snively

Written by: Devi Snively

Cast: Zed Wilson, Heathyr Clift, Ken Dusek, Jr., Nicole Buehrer, Jake Perry, Lindsay Robertson, Circus-Szalewski, Marina Benedict

Devi Snively is a sly filmmaker of considerable skill and talent, but she knows she's standing on the shoulders of giants.

For the cineaste, her movies are often a game of spot the shot. While watching her work, I've picked up shrewd nods to several filmmakers, including David Lynch, Tobe Hooper and even Alejandro Jodorowsky. But when I watched Trippin', Snively's first feature, the film I found myself thinking of was Dirty Dancing. I know that sounds strange, but stay with me here.

When I wrote about her short films a while back, I talked about Snively's use of recurring themes and her identifiable cinematic sensibilities. I like to think I can recognize her style when I see it. But Trippin' is different enough from...

Devi Snively's Thinking Girl's Slasher Flick
Filmmaker Devi Snively has been out of the limelight lately, but that doesn't mean she hasn't been busy.

Although it's been about a year since Snively's most recent effort, the striking horror noir short Last Seen on Dolores Street, the writer/director has been anything but static. Truth be told, Snively is never still; the woman is absolutely indefatigable. She always has several irons in the fire. And now, one of those irons is really starting to heat up — it even has its own website and teaser trailers.

Paige & Hadley's Prom From Hell is the latest project from Snively and her team of deviants at Deviant Pictures. This new feature hasn't gone into production yet, but it's getting quite a bit of attention from several parties. "Prom From Hell is on a development roller coaster," Snively tells me, "but the current status is we have some of our team in place,...

Last Seen on Dolores Street (2010)
Telling a story on film can be a perplexing process. Some directors require a series of two-hour movies, and several hundred million dollars, to tell just one tale and they still make a mess of it. But some directors can get it exactly right in a few minutes for a couple of thousand bucks. I was reminded of this when I watched Devi Snively’s latest short film, Last Seen on Dolores Street, in which she creates a whole world, juggles a host of tones and colors, and even manages a surprise or two along the way - all in less than four minutes. In your face, George Lucas.

Snively’s film career has been all about exploration and development. Beginning with a series of short films that allowed her to discover and perfect her directorial style, Snively seemingly reached her zenith with the masterful Death in Charge, which condensed...
