Remco excels in cycling on a world level since the under-18 age category. He has skipped the under-22 age category. He played association football until he was 16, playing at RSC Anderlecht and KV Mechelen as a defender. He would have been rejected at the former, though he was a captain of his teams and physically among the best youth players. He played for the Belgian under-17 youth team.
