Remco excels in cycling on a world level since the under-18 age category. He has skipped the under-22 age category. He played association football until he was 16, playing at RSC Anderlecht and KV Mechelen as a defender. He would have been rejected at the former, though he was a captain of his teams and physically among the best youth players. He played for the Belgian under-17 youth team.

Son of former professional cyclist Patrick Evenepoel (born 1968). His father was a professional rider between 1991 and 1994 (four seasons). His father became his manager.

Fluent speaker of Dutch, French and English.

His wife Oumaïma Rayane is of Moroccan descent. Their wedding party took place in Moroccan style and tradition.

Remco was raised bilingually (Dutch and French) because of his time as a footballer at Brussels based association football club RSC Anderlecht. Young Belgian football players are trained bilingually there. The town of Anderlecht is a sub-municipality of Belgium's capital Brussels. Brussels is a bilingual region.

His wife Oumaïma is his sweetheart from school. They went to the same high school.

In the period that he was UCI World Road Champion, autumn 2022 and spring 2023, his joys and sorrows were followed for a year by Youtuber Rob Van Impe aka Average Rob. The documentary is called Rainbow Remco, and consists of three episodes. Aired on Belgian streaming service Streamz.

He is 1 out of 4 cyclists to have won a Grand Tour, a world title and one of pro cycling's five monuments in a single season. Pro cycling's monuments are the Tour of Flanders, the Paris-Roubaix, the Giro di Lombardia, the Milano-San Remo and the Liège-Bastogne-Liège. Evenepoel won the Vuelta a Espana, the UCI World Road Championship and the Liège-Bastogne-Liège. Italian Alfredo Binda, his compatriot Eddy Merckx and Frenchman Bernard Hinault preceded him in completing the feat.

When he became UCI World Road Champion in 2022, he was honored by thousands of fans on the Grand Place of Brussels where he he greeted and addressed the crowd on the balcony of the town hall.
