Newsom to Decide Menendez Brothers’ Fate by Labor Day as Erik Hospitalized
Image
California Governor Gavin Newsom said he will decide by Labor Day whether Erik and Lyle Menendez are suitable for parole following their convictions for the murders of their parents, José and Kitty Menendez, at the family’s Beverly Hills mansion. On Sunday, Newsom discussed the case with Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story creator Ryan Murphy on his podcast, This is Gavin Newsom. If the parole board recommends release, the final decision will rest with the governor. The brothers are scheduled to appear before the parole board in August. If the parole board recommends release, Gov. Newsom may decide on clemency by Labor Day. On July 18, Erik Menendez was transferred from prison to a nearby hospital to receive medical care. While his attorney, Mark Geragos, described the situation as a “serious medical condition,” other sources indicated that the cause is likely kidney stones. Menendez’s current condition and the...

Celebrity Lawyer Mark Geragos to Pay $100,000 After Legal Malpractice Trial
Image
Mark Geragos, the Los Angeles-based lawyer to the stars who made a name for himself representing deeply beloved and maligned celebrities and public figures like Michael Jackson, Sean Combs and Erik and Lyle Menendez, must pay $100,000 to a youth basketball coach for his role in the 2018 Nike extortion scheme, a jury has decided.

Gary Franklin had alleged that Geragos and now-disbarred attorney Michael Avenatti derailed a $1.5 million settlement by leveraging confidential information from his lawsuit about alleged misconduct in youth basketball to demand a separate $10 million payout from Nike to conduct an internal investigation of the company, which later contacted law enforcement. The saga ended with a 2 1/2-year prison sentence for Avenatti, with federal prosecutors at one point identifying Geragos as an unindicted coconspirator.

In a countersuit, Geragos, who denied any wrongdoing, claimed that the settlement was bungled because of negligence by Franklin’s representatives.

In Thursday’s verdict, the...

Lyle Menendez called Cooper Koch to congratulate him on Emmy nomination
Cooper Koch
When the nominations for the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards were announced this week, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story landed four at the premiere ceremony (with another seven in the Creative Arts categories). Three of these came in the acting categories, with Cooper Koch getting into the lead actor battle…something one of the Menendez brothers was intrigued enough to congratulate him for.

Speaking on Entertainment Weekly’s The Awardist podcast, Cooper Koch revealed that Lyle – not Erik, who he portrays – gave him a ring after the nominations were announced. “I spoke [to] Lyle today. He called to send his congrats and was very, very sweet. He was jealous that I was at Wimbledon this weekend. He was just so, so sweet…and they’re doing really well.”

As for why Erik Menendez didn’t reach out to Cooper Koch, the younger brother to Lyle has been openly critical of...

The Menendez Brothers Documentary: Where Are They Now? Learn the True Story Behind the Murders and Trial
Image
When Erik and Lyle Menendez were found guilty of the brutal murder of their parents, the world was watching. The family was a Beverly Hills fixture that became a tabloid sensation: Gallons of ink were spilled and hours of television commentary aired discussing the brothers’ crimes. Now you can hear the story in their own words.

In a new documentary, The Menendez Brothers, director Alejandro Hartmann pores over decades of material surrounding the crime and the subsequent trial. What emerges may not answer the many questions that still surround the case, but it does offer another perspective — that of the brothers themselves, provided in all-new audio interviews.

You can watch a trailer for the documentary above, and read on for more information about The Menendez Brothers.

In 1996, Lyle and Erik Menendez were convicted of the murders of their parents in what became one of the most famous criminal...

Image
Cooper Koch, who played Lyle Menendez in the Netflix series Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, was nominated for an Emmy in the category Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie.

In the wake of his first-ever Emmy nomination, Menendez called Koch from prison to send his congratulations.

“I spoke to Lyle today. He called to send his congrats and was very, very sweet,” Koch said on The Awardist podcast. “He was jealous that I was at Wimbledon this weekend. He was just so, so sweet… and they’re doing really well.”

Before the series, Koch had only starred in smaller-scale horror films and individual episodes of TV shows. Playing the role of Menendez has changed his career and life.

He joins fellow actors Colin Farrell, Jake Gyllenhaal, Stephen Graham and Brian Tyree Henry as nominees in the category.

"It Sucks" General Hospital Star's Scenes In I Know What You Did Last Summer Cut From Movie
Image
Anyone hoping to see one actor from General Hospital in I Know What You Did Last Summer’s 2025 sequel risks leaving the theater disappointed, as the rising star’s scenes were sadly cut. General Hospital’s ever-changing cast includes plenty of stars who have moved on to other soap operas, as well as many actors who went on to have movie careers.

As Kristen Storms’ recent General Hospital recasting proves, the long-running show frequently needs to replace actors due to scheduling conflicts. Thanks to the sheer number of episodes General Hospital has produced and its 62 years on the air, the soap opera is used to actors coming and going from time to time.

However, anyone following one recent General Hospital star’s career will be sad to learn his latest blockbuster role was cut, alongside an appearance by The Summer I Turned Pretty’s Lola Tung. Speaking to People,I...

Why Lola Tung and Nicholas Alexander Chavez Were Cut From ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’
Image
Fans who were excited to see Lola Tung and Nicholas Alexander Chavez in the new I Know What You Did Last Summer film shouldn’t get their hopes up.

Director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson recently told People magazine that the two actors’ scenes were nicked from the final cut of the slasher sequel, despite the filmmaker initially planning to open the movie with them.

“In every movie, it’s best laid plans, and then you edit the movie and you put it together and you go, ‘I love this in a vacuum. This is a fantastic scene. But it doesn’t fit in the movie,'” Robinson explains of her decision to cut Tung and Chavez’s scenes.

“It was just one of those situations where it had nothing to do with Lola and Nicholas — they are both so fantastic. I really would love to work with them again. I loved working with them.

First-Time Nominee Cooper Koch Is “Devastated” Over Emmy Snubs for Two of His ‘Monsters’ Co-Stars
Image
Cooper Koch has landed his first-ever Emmy nomination for his lead role as Erik Menendez in Ryan Murphy’s Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, but the news is a tad bittersweet for the actor who was hoping to hear the names of his co-stars Ari Graynor and Nicholas Alexander Chavez called along with his as the nominees for the 2025 Emmys were announced Tuesday morning.

“I talked to Ari; I’m devastated that she didn’t get it,” Koch tells The Hollywood Reporter. “That’s the one sort of bummer from today that she didn’t get it. Same thing with Nicholas. I think both of them really deserved to be on there, so I’m super bummed that they didn’t get nominated.”

Chavez portrayed Lyle Menendez in the Netflix series and Graynor played Erik’s lead defense attorney, Leslie Abramson. Despite the snubs for the two stars,...

2025 Emmys: Ranking the 21 Shows Nominated for Best Comedy, Drama, and Limited Series
Image
With the official list of shows and nominees announced, let’s dive into the 2025 Emmy nominations. Below we’ve ranked the nominees for Best Series, either Comedy, Drama, or Limited Series, based on the season eligible. For some, like The Bear, a new season of the show has already been aired since the one nominated was released. Check our ranking below, and we’ll confirm which seasons were eligible in each category.

21. Monsters: The Erik and Lyle Menendez Story

Nominated for Outstanding Limited Series

Falling within the same realm as the Monsters: Dahmer season, The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story is a dark and twisted tale of sex abuse and violence. It certainly has a place on television, but it’s hard to get too excited for a show that uses human pain as entertainment. It also comes after another Ryan Murphy revival, and while there are ways to tell...

‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’: Why Lola Tung and Nicholas Alexander Chavez’s Roles Got Slashed
Image
The 2025 reboot of “I Know What You Did Last Summer” promises to be a bloody good time as a hook-wielding killer wearing a fisherman’s slicker terrorizes a new class of coeds from Southport. But a couple of characters got slashed from the film altogether.

Lola Tung and Nicholas Alexander Chavez’s roles didn’t make the final cut, “I Know What You Did Last Summer” director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson confirmed at the film’s L.A. premiere.

“It happens. You shoot something and, when you watch the scene, it doesn’t fit in the film,” Robinson told Variety after eagle-eyed fans noticed the actors were missing from marketing materials.

Tung and Chavez’s scene was intended to be the opening scene, and their performance was “fantastic,” Robinson said, but ultimately, “it didn’t work within the film that we were creating. And when you’re trying to make something that’s bold,...

Menendez Brothers Score Big Court Victory As Judge Orders Da To Defend Witholding Key Evidence In Case
Image
Erik and Lyle Menendez, the brothers infamous for the 1989 fatal killing of their parents, Kitty and Jose Menendez, have scored a critical victory in their legal fight for freedom.

The siblings were convicted in 1996 and sentenced to life in prison without parole. Throughout their 35 years behind bars, Erik and Lyle have long alleged that their actions were in self-defense, driven by the desire to escape a lifetime of sexual and physical abuse. Erik and Lyle filed a habeas petition in March 2023, arguing that claims and evidence of sexual abuse at the hands of their father had been withheld in their second trial and would have changed the outcome.

Last October, District Attorney George Gascón moved to reduce the brothers’ sentence to 50 years to life, which would make Lyle and Erik immediately eligible for parole. In May, the brothers were resentenced to 50 years by Judge Michael Jesic; their parole hearing, initially scheduled for June,...

2025 Emmy Nominations Predictions for the Annual Primetime Emmy Awards
Image
With the official 2025 Emmy Nominations voting window now closed, we’re excited to take a look at some of the major categories. The new Emmy season is looming after a topsy-turvy year of television due to the strikes. Perhaps most surprising are the drops in total nominations across several categories. Due to the number of shows that submitted, we lost at least one nominee in all of the comedy and drama acting categories.

The 2025 Emmy nominations will only have five nominees in Comedy and Drama lead categories, as well as seven (instead of eight) in the supporting categories. Meanwhile, the supporting ranks for limited series will get six slots. Additionally, remember that while The Bear is competing, it is getting nominations for Season 3, not its upcoming Season 4 in a few weeks.

From Soap Star to True Crime Antihero: Gh Alum Nicholas Alexander Chavez Reinvents the Modern Leading Man
Image
After starting his career playing Spencer Cassadine on General Hospital, Nicholas Alexander Chavez has really branched off into a successful career, beyond the confines of a daytime serial. He played Lyle Menendez in Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story and followed that up with the show Grotesquerie, in which he plays a murderous priest. The sky’s the limit for the young actor, who’s doing more than simply acting.

Artistic Rapport Is Key

Chavez talked to The Hollywood Reporter about his successful horror shows, both of which Ryan Murphy produced and directed. Chavez noted that while Monsters was based on the true story of the Menendez brothers, Grotesquerie was a sandbox that “really has close to no rules.” This allowed him a certain degree of freedom to be even more creative than when portraying a real-life person.

He enjoys working with Murphy regularly, noting that when directors often...

Cooper Koch First Auditioned to Play Erik Menendez Eight Years Ago: ‘I Have to Play This Part’
Image
When Cooper Koch finally played Erik Menendez in Netflix’s “Monsters,” it was a true full-circle moment for the actor, who has literally been auditioning to play the part for eight years.

“My second audition ever was for the ‘Law & Order’ series about them in 2017,” Koch said in his Variety Actors on Actors interview with Sam Nivola. “And then I also had an audition for the Lifetime movie that they were doing the same year. I just felt this insane cosmic thing that was like, ‘I have to play this part.’ And this immense empathy.”

California-native Koch even went to the same Calabasas high school that Menendez attended before moving to Beverly Hills.

“There are all these weird parallels,” he said.

Erik and his brother Lyle Menendez were convicted in 1995 of the 1989 murder of their parents, Kitty and José, in the living room of the family’s Beverly Hills mansion.

‘Monsters’ Star Nicholas Alexander Chavez Took ‘Daily Walks’ to Menendez House, Forming ‘Spiritual Connection’
Image
Nicholas Alexander Chavez was committed to meticulously researching his role as Lyle Menendez, one-half of the real-life brothers who brutally murdered their parents in 1989, for his role in Ryan Murphy’s “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.” He took his part so seriously, in fact, that he said he felt “some of spiritual connection” with the Beverly Hills mansion where the crime occurred.

While the production team used three different L.A.-area locations to cobble together its Menendez home, the real life site is very much intact on North Elm Drive in Beverly Hills. Chavez said he lives “not quite a stone’s throw but pretty close” to the house, and took daily walks to it while preparing for the production.

“Maybe you’ve had a similar experience to this, where you just know that spaces carry energy with them,” Chavez said during a recent interview with The Los Angeles Times.

‘Monsters’ stars on breaking furniture and bringing the Menendez case back into the spotlight
Image
Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story stars Cooper Koch and Nicholas Alexander Chavez had no idea just how much of an impact the show would have on pop culture — and in the real world — when they took on the roles of the convicted killers.

"The fact that this show reframed or repositioned a 30-year-old case in a way that made people rethink how they thought about it, that's just, it's so, so special," Chavez told Gold Derby at an FYC event for the series at West Hollywood’s Pacific Design Center.

The second season of Ryan Murphy’s Monsters anthology dominated the conversation both online and offline when it premiered on Netflix last fall, introducing a new generation to the Menendez brothers’ brutal 1989 killing of their parents in their Beverly Hills home. The series also reignited interest in the pair’s court case — culminating in the brothers’ May 13 resentencing...

Menendez Brothers Parole Hearing Pushed Back
Image
The Menendez brothers, Erik and Lyle, were resentenced in mid-May, and they were given 50 years. While it sounds harsh, it does mean they can file for parole. However, the latest news reveals that they will have to wait.

How Long Is The Delay?

The Hollywood Reporter reported the update on May 20. According to the outlet, “Their next hearing was scheduled for June 13, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation announced that the brothers’ parole hearing dates have been pushed back to Aug 21 and 22.”

No Evidence Of Not Being Guilty in 1989 – Netflix

The news comes after mixed reactions greeted the news of their resentencing on May 13, which saw them remain in prison for the 1989 murder of their parents. Some people believed the ruling was unfair. Despite still being incarcerated, the resentencing marked a shift. The brothers have already served 35 years, and their original conviction offered no chance of parole.

Now, in 2025, people are once again asking: Are the Menendez brothers finally getting out of prison?

Menendez Brothers’ Parole Hearing Delayed by Two Months
Image
Erik and Lyle Menendez are going to have to wait a little longer for the decision on their potential release from prison.

The infamous brothers — who have been incarcerated for 30 years for the 1989 murders of their parents, José and Kitty Menendez, at their Beverly Hills home — were resentenced earlier this month to 50 years to life, making them eligible for parole. Despite LA County District Attorney Nathan Hochman’s doubts, Judge Michael Jesic determined Erik and Lyle did not pose “an unreasonable risk” if they were to be released from prison.

While their next hearing was initially scheduled for June 13, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation announced that the brothers’ parole hearing dates have been pushed back to Aug. 21 and 22.

Lyle addressed the hearing postponement on Facebook, noting that “it’s a good thing” as it gives their attorneys more time to prepare. “Given the fact that first time parole...

Are the Young Men Ok? On Some of the Season’s Best Shows, Not at All
Image
During this particular TV season, it’s easy to understand why parents, especially those of young men, have experienced all manner of visceral reactions to both ripped-from-the-headlines and smaller-scale storylines.

Describing the first scene of “Adolescence” to IndieWire’s Toolkit podcast, in which the audience enters the limited series through the eyes of the detectives raiding a family’s home, creator/star Stephen Graham said, “I wanted to grab the audience by the scruff of the neck and that camera moving up through that house and going into a boy’s bedroom and have police point guns at ’em.”

Naturally, it’s disorienting to hear that a 13-year-old boy is being arrested for murder, but by the third episode in the lauded series, viewers see a switch flip. Suddenly, they have an understanding of the environment the child was raised in — and what information was being fed to him inside...

Menendez Brothers’ Parole Hearing Delayed To Late Summer; Need “More Time To Prepare,” Lyle Menendez Says
Image
On the potential cusp of freedom after decades behind bars for the 1989 shotgun murder of their parents, Erik Menendez and Lyle Menendez will have to wait a bit longer to know their fates.

In a rebuke to Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman, the Menendez brothers were resentenced May 13 to 50 years to life, which makes them eligible for parole. At the much delayed hearing, L.A. Superior Court Judge Michael Jesic ruled that Lyle, 57, and Erik, 54, did not pose “an unreasonable risk” if they were released, almost 30 years after their 1996 sentencing to life without parole.

To that end, the siblings’ scheduled June 13 clemency board hearings ordered earlier this year by Gov. Gavin Newsom have shifted. “Since the ruling makes them immediately eligible for parole consideration as youth offenders, it is the Board’s intent to convert the June 13, 2025, clemency hearings to initial parole suitability hearings,” Scott Wyckoff of the...

After Their Resentencing, Menendez Brothers Could Go Free As Soon As June 13
Image
A California judge has resentenced the Menendez brothers, and now they have a real chance at release.

Lyle Menendez, 57, and Erik Menendez, 54, were initially sentenced to life in prison without parole for the murder of their parents in the den of their Beverly Hills home in 1989.

The brothers claimed the homicides were a response to years of sexual abuse by their father, Jose Menendez, which they said their mother, Kitty Menendez, knew about and ignored.

In May 2023, 34 years after the murders, the brothers’ lawyers filed a habeas corpus petition in Los Angeles County Superior Court seeking a new trial based on new evidence, bringing the case back into the spotlight.

The case became an even bigger sensation after Netflix released a new nine-episode season of its true crime anthology, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, in 2024. Following the success of the limited series, Netflix also released a documentary, The Menendez Brothers,...

Jimmy Kimmel Made a Joke About the Manning Brothers and the Audience Wasn’t on His Side
Image
The Disney Upfront celebration took place in New York City this week and had so many of our favorite actors there to talk about their shows. That included Peyton Manning and Eli Manning taking the stage to do an opening number that included songs, cowbell, Glen Powell, and talking about the new Hulu series Chad Powers. It was meant in good fun to just kind of poke at things, especially since Chad Powers is based on a very weird and funny sketch that the former Giants quarterback did. It wasn't something that Jimmy Kimmelenjoyed though and he took to the stage to roast the Manning brothers by comparing them to Lyle Menendez and his brother, Erik Menendez, who famously killed their parents and went to jail for it.

And the end of the Disney Upfront, Kimmel took to the stage to roast other networks and have a little fun. But...

After Tuesday’s Resentencing, What’s Next for the Menendez Brothers?
Image
Erik and Lyle Menendez were resentenced Tuesday to 50 years to life for the 1989 murders of their parents, making them immediately eligible for parole. With a new sentence and their freedom potentially on the horizon, what else lies in the brothers’ paths before they could be released from prison?

For years, true crime lovers were captivated by the Menendez case, which saw Erik and Lyle kill their father and mother, José and Mary Louise “Kitty” Menendez. At the time, prosecutors argued that they murdered their parents for monetary benefit, while the defense argued they were acting out of self-defense after years of abuse at the hands of José.

A brand new wave of attention on the case ignited in September with the release of Ryan Murphy’s Netflix series Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, following the 2023 release of a Peacock documentary where a former Menudo boy band member, Roy Rosselló,...

Da Nathan Hochman Responds to Menendez Brothers Resentencing: ‘Justice Should Never Be Swayed by Spectacle’
Image
Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman has responded to the ruling Tuesday granting a sentence reduction to the Menendez brothers, which makes Erik and Lyle Menendez eligible for parole.

At a hearing Tuesday, despite opposition from the Da’s office, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Michael Jesic reduced the brothers’ prison sentences from life without parole to 50 years to life. They are now eligible for parole because they committed their crimes before they turned 26, though a California parole board will still have the final call on early release. The board has a hearing scheduled for June 13.

“The decision to resentence Erik and Lyle Menendez was a monumental one that has significant implications for the families involved, the community, and the principles of justice,” Hochman said in a statement Tuesday night. “Our office’s motions to withdraw the resentencing motion filed by the previous administration ensured that the Court was...

Menendez Brothers Resentenced for 1989 Murders of Parents, Clearing Major Hurdle to Regaining Freedom
Image
Erik and Lyle Menendez have been resentenced for the double murder of their parents, seeing their sentence reduced from life without the possibility of parole to 50 years with the possibility of parole, a Los Angeles judge ruled on Tuesday evening. The move sets up the brothers, who’ve been incarcerated for more than 30 years, to regain their freedom.

Following the surprise decision, the brothers must now appear before the California Parole Board, where a panel and Gov. Gavin Newsom will make the final decision on granting them parole. The brothers were already set to appear before the parole board on June 13 in a hearing related to the possibility of clemency.

Judge Michael Jesic’s Tuesday ruling came at the end of the first day of a two-day resentencing that Los Angeles’ new District Attorney, Nathan Hochman, fought tooth and nail to bring to a halt over the past six months.

Los Angeles Judge Reduces Menendez Brothers’ Life Sentence, Now Eligible for Parole Hearing
Image
A Los Angeles judge Friday reduced the life sentences of Erik and Lyle Menendez, giving the brothers hope for freedom after serving 35 years in prison for murdering their parents in 1989, according to AP.

L.A. County Superior Court Judge Michael Jesic moved to reduce the Menendez brothers’ original sentences of life without parole to 50 years to life. Because they were under the age of 26 at the time of their crime, they now have a shot at parole under California’s Youthful Offender law. However, the brothers must still receive the nod from the state parole board before they are released.

Of the ruling, Judge Jesic said, “I’m not saying they should be released, it’s not for me to decide. I do believe they’ve done enough in the past 35 years, that they should get that chance.”

AP reports the Menendez brothers showed no overtly emotional response during their court appearance,...

Menendez Brothers Have Murder Sentence Reduced & Are Now Eligible For Parole
Image
Erik and Lyle Menendez, who have served roughly 35 years of a life-without-parole prison sentence for the 1989 shotgun slayings of their parents in Beverly Hills, were re-sentenced today to 50 years to life, immediately making them eligible for parole.

The decision by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Jesic does not automatically mean the pair will be released from prison. They will have to appear before a parole board, which will recommend whether they should be available for parole. The recommendation would then go to Gov. Gavin Newsom,

who could reject their release.

A parole hearing is scheduled for June 13.

Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman, who opposed the resentencing, said in a statement, “This case, like all cases — especially those that captivate the public — must be viewed with a critical eye. Our opposition and analysis ensured that the court received a complete and accurate record of the facts. Justice should never be swayed by spectacle.

Menendez Brothers Give Stunning Statements, Win Possibility of Parole: ‘I Make No Excuses’
Image
Erik and Lyle Menendez are now a huge step closer to possibly going home.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Jesic recalled the brothers’ sentences of life without parole in a dramatic reversal of fortune at a court hearing Tuesday. He then resentenced the brothers to 50 years to life, making them immediately eligible for parole in connection with the 1989 shotgun slayings of their parents, José and Kitty Menendez.

The brothers each addressed the court before hearing their fates. “I make no excuses and offer no justification,” Lyle said in a lengthy statement,...

The Menéndez Brothers Risk Assessment Revealed Ahead of Resentencing Case
Image
According to the Da, Clemency evaluation has assessed the risk the Menéndez Brothers would pose to the public if released, and found it moderate. The conclusion was reached after California Gov. Gavin Newsom asked for a comprehensive risk assessment.

For those that are unfamiliar with Lyle and Erik Menéndez’s story, they are two brothers who got arrested for the 1989 murders of their parents Jose and Kitty Menéndez.

Recently, Ryan Murphy’s ‘Monsters’ has seemed to turn public attention towards them once again, and not to add even bought them some public affection, not least from Kim Kardashian. The story that they killed their parents to escape from a lifetime of sexual abuse struck so many forcibly, even though the police deemed that they killed their parents in order to inherit their father’s vast wealth – father being a Hollywood exec.

As the days draw nearer to the resentencing they...

Menendez Brothers: Resentencing Hearing Back On After Courtroom Showdown

After months of delays and near-derailment, Erik and Lyle Menendez will get their first major shot at freedom at a resentencing hearing next week.

A Los Angeles judge ruled Friday that the brothers’ previously paused two-day hearing will take place next Tuesday and Wednesday. Relatives and experts — and possibly Erik and Lyle themselves — are expected to testify about the brothers’ level of rehabilitation after 35 years in prison.

Judge Michael Jesic revived the crucial hearing at a dramatic morning showdown that started with defense lawyer Mark Geragos withdrawing his motion to...

Menendez Brothers Suddenly Withdraw Move To Toss L.A. Da Off Case; Resentencing Hearings Set For Next Week
Image
Updated with more details: The latest showdown between Erik and Lyle Menendez and the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office has come down a pivotal notch.

In a surprising move Friday morning during a hearing in the Van Nuys, CA courthouse, Menendez brothers lawyer Mark Geragos withdrew a motion to remove Da Nathan Hochman and his entire office from the case. While more circumspect than usual with the media before today’s hearing, the typically verbose Geragos didn’t give a detailed reason before Judge Micheal Jesic for the move except to say he didn’t want to see the resentencing process held up anymore than necessary.

Mark Geragos, a lawyer for Erik and Lyle Menendez, arrives at the Van Nuys West Courthouse on Friday

A media frenzy back in the 1990s, the case of the 1989 shotgun murder of the brothers’ parents by the siblings has returned to the...

Menendez Brothers Attorney Suddenly Nixes Request for D.A.’s Recusal From Resentencing
Image
The Menendez brothers’ battle for freedom brought their attorneys to court in Los Angeles again for a Friday hearing as the the incarcerated duo, who have been behind bars for over 30 years after being found guilty of the shocking 1989 Beverly Hills double murder of their parents, had sought to boot the L.A. District Attorney’s Office from the case entirely, citing the new Da’s bias and a conflict of interest. But in a surprise move, their attorney Marc Geragos withdrew the motion for withdrawal entirely.

In the hearing at the Van Nuys courthouse in Los Angeles, Geregos did not provide a reason for the withdrawal before Judge Michael Jesic. But outside the court, the powerhouse lawyer who has been dipping his toes into Sean “Diddy” Combs’ defense as his case begins in New York, said that hit was a strategic move and was creating a paper trial.

Rosie O’Donnell Supports Menendez Brothers’ Release, Accuses Da of Using Them for Publicity: ‘Truth Does Come Out’ | Video
Image
Rosie O’Donnell accused Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman of using Erik and Lyle Menendez for publicity, adding that “the truth [will] come out” in the brothers’ case.

In an interview with Andy Cohen, O’Donnell, who has advocated for the incarcerated siblings even before their case was revived by Netflix’s “Monsters” series, O’Donnell said, “I think the district attorney is using them for publicity.”

Referring to the clemency request put in to California Governor by previous Da George Gascón, she said she hoped that Gavin Newsom would “pay attention” to the public swell of support for the brothers and pardon them and/or commute their sentence down to manslaughter.” She pointed out, “They’ve already served almost 35 years.”

Hochman, who was elected in November 2024, has repeatedly stated that, despite corroboration from an additional victim and the support of most of the Menendez family, he does not believe Lyle and...

Menendez Brothers Resentencing: L.A. Da & Family’s Lawyer Butt Heads Over Recusal Move & Media Hits A Week Ahead Of Pivotal Hearing
Image
A week before a hearing that could be pivotal to the Menendez brothers getting out of prison, the Los Angeles District Attorney today slammed the siblings’ lawyers for their “drastic and desperate step of attempting to recuse the entire Office of the Los Angeles County District Attorney.”

“The defense conflates a conflict of interest with zealous advocacy,” says the 15-page opposition filing Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court by Da Nathan Hochman’s office. “In our adversarial system of justice, the parties often do not agree These disagreements are neither novel nor improper. They are often necessary hallmarks of our adversarial system’s search for the truth.”

Filed on April 25, the Menendezes’ recusal motion claims it is “made on the grounds that, absent recusal, a conflict of interest would render it likely that the defendants will receive neither a fair hearing nor fair treatment through all related proceedings.”

‘I felt my blood boil’: Nicholas Alexander Chavez on playing Lyle Menendez in ‘Monsters’
Image
“I think when I look back on this, I'll just remember it as being one of the most special times in my entire life,” Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story star Nicholas Alexander Chavez tells Gold Derby (watch the video interview above).

“Every actor dreams of having the opportunity to do a project like this that allows you to immerse yourself in a world like the '80s, to work with challenging actors like Cooper Koch, Javier Bardem, and Chloë Sevigny. Just the fact that I had this opportunity, I just feel so grateful.”

Chavez reveals he had jitters — and preconceived notions about his costars — his first day on set. When he learned he’d be working with Javier Bardem, he immediately thought of Bardem’s terrifying performance in No Country for Old Men. “I'm going into this expecting the scariest person of all time,” he admits. But Chavez...

Was Trina’s Latest Accessory A Sprina Callback On General Hospital?
Image
Despite Trina moving on with Kai, General Hospital seems to be throwing a lot of Sprina callbacks at the supercouple’s loyal fans.

Two Turtle Doves

The most memorable part of Trina (Tabyana Ali) and Spencer’s (Nicholas Alexander Chavez) relationship was when he gave her a box of two turtle doves, a symbol of a matching pair. He kept one, and she kept the other.

Tragically, when Spencer was presumed dead after falling overboard with Esme (Avery Kristen Pohl), Spencer’s dove washed ashore, while Trina kept hers close as she grieved her boyfriend. But despite Spencer being gone, he’s far from forgotten by Trina.

Couple Callback

Recently on Gh, Sprina fans found themselves having deja vu when Trina fell off a step stool in the gallery, straight into Kai’s (Jens Austin Astrup) arms. The moment was almost identical to the scene when Trina fell off a...

Menendez Brothers Demand Los Angeles D.A. Recuse Himself From Their Case Due to ‘Shenanigans’ and ‘Next Level Gaslighting’
Image
In their bid to seek a new trial or resentencing, Lyle and Erik Menendez have filed a blistering motion to disqualify the office of the District Attorney from participating in the proceedings.

“The record shows a conflict that renders it unlikely Erik and Lyle can receive a fair resentencing hearing, recusal is proper,” the 160-page filing states.

The case involving the famed brothers — who have served 35 years in prison for the 1989 murders of their parents, Jose and Kitty, at their Beverly Hills home — has featured various twists and turns over the past six months. In October, then-District Attorney George Gascón moved to reduce the brothers’ sentence from life without parole to 50 years to life. That reduction, if granted, would make the brothers immediately eligible for parole. But Gascón lost in the November election, and newly elected D.A. Nathan Hochman reversed course and withdrew Gascón’s resentencing recommendation.

Judge Puts Brakes on Menéndez Brothers’ Resentencing, Blocking Possible Immediate Freedom
Image
Ryan Murphy’s ‘Monsters’ brought Lyle and Erik Menéndez’s story back to the spotlight. At the height of all this, the brothers received significant media coverage that they gained fans that support the idea that the brothers should be granted freedom, especially since they’ve already spent over three decades of their life behind bars for the 1989 murder of their parents.

However, public support was likely not going to get them somewhere. What might is the new evidence that was discovered a few years ago that Erik did communicate their father’s tendencies to sexually assault them to a close cousin.

This may be the game changer they’d no doubt have hoped on, but they will have to wait a little longer to see if parole, at the very least, is for them.

The Menendez Brothers’ Prison Life Revealed Ahead of Resentencing
Image
Lyle and Erik Menéndez have spent 35 years of their life in prison for the double murder of their parents, Jose and Kitty Menéndez.

At the time, the brothers pled that their actions were done in self-defense against their father, who had sexually abused them for many years.

Despite this, they were sentenced to life in prison without parole, as police deemed that the primary motivation for the crime was wealth.

Over three decades on, and the brothers’ may finally get the chance to enjoy freedom again, starting with a probable parole. Here’s how everything stands so far.

Lyle and Erik Menéndez’s Attorneys Seek To Highlight the Brothers’ Good Behavior In Resentencing Case

Lyle and Erik have gone through many prison rehabilitation programs since their arrest at age 21 and 18 respectively. They have gotten education, participated in various self-help classes and even started various support groups to help out their fellow inmates.

Judge Denies L.A. Da Motion To Delay Menendez Brothers’ Resentencing Hearing; Defense Lawyer Accuses Prosecution Of Playing Politics With Case
Image
A California judge has cut short the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s last-minute effort to delay the Menendez brothers’ resentencing hearing.

After Deadline revealed a filing late Wednesday by Nathan Hochman’s team based on a supposedly completed parole board risk assessment report ordered by Gov. Gavin Newsom, Judge Micheal Jesic quickly ruled Thursday morning that the previously pushed back hearing would go forward. With Erik Menendez and Lyle Menendez attending virtually from a state prison near San Diego, the hearing is set to run today and Friday.

Anticipated to testify today, Lyle Menendez posted about the hearing on his Facebook page as events unfolded:

Thursday will see the Mark Geragos- and Bryan Freedman-led defense deliver opening arguments and call witnesses. The defense will emphasize the brothers’ claims of self-defense from the sexual abuse by their father José Menendez as the main reason behind the bloody 1989 shotgun murder of their parents.

L.A. Da Wants Menendez Brothers’ Resentencing Delayed Again Now That Gavin Newsom Has Pivotal Parole Board Report
Image
Exclusive: The Los Angeles County District Attorney doesn’t think the Menendez Brothers should be let out of prison and Nathan Hochman really doesn’t think their much-delayed resentencing hearing should go ahead as planned on Thursday.

After coming up short last week in front of LA Superior Court Judge Micheal Jesic in scuttling a potential reassessment of Erik Menendez and Lyle Menendez’s cases, the Da’s office has now made a brazen political move to force the hands of the courts and Governor Gavin Newsom.

Hochman’s team has just filed a conditional motion to push back tomorrow’s pivotal hearing in this once again high-profile case until Judge Jesic can get his mitts on the supposedly completed risk assessment report the Governor ordered the parole board on March 4 to work on as a part of a clemency petition for the siblings.

That report Newsom wants from the...
