The Batman's Newest Animated Film Is Quietly Climbing Streaming Charts
Image
Batman is one character that’s universally known and loved by fans around the world. While the face of the vigilante keeps changing, be it live-action or animation, the thrill and mystery remain the same, which makes him the most intriguing and important character in the comic book genre. Every generation has a Dark Knight, be it Michael Keaton, Christian Bale or Robert Pattinson, and in cases where one grew up on the animated series, it's Kevin Conroy’s voice that defines their experience. Interestingly, a Batman movie is climbing the streaming charts which features none of the aforementioned talents.

Per FlixPatrol, Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League, a sequel to 2018's Batman Ninja, is steadily climbing the HBO Max worldwide streaming charts. The anime superhero film directed by Junpei Mizusaki and Shinji Takagi is currently at #3, standing tall behind Sinners and A Minecraft Movie. Written by Kazuki Nakashima, the movie...

One of the Best New Batman Animated Movies Is Finally Headed to Streaming
Image
Even though Batman fans have been extremely patient with the highly anticipated The Batman 2 getting delayed repeatedly, they can't complain about the franchise as a whole. The universe inhabited by Bruce Wayne still generates exciting stories, and one of them is the anime sequel Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League. The movie takes the caped crusader back to the Japanese landscape, and today HBO Max announced that it is debuting on the platform on July 3.

One of the coolest things about Batman Ninja is that it's also a soft Justice League film. The story finds a way to include other superheroes like Aquaman (voiced by Akio Ôtsuka), Green Lantern (AyaneSakura), and The Flash (NobuyukiHiyama), but puts them on the villain side — so it's essentially a Batman adventure with formidable and familiar enemies. The trailer underscores the other characters that we will see in Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League, including Commissioner...

Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League Review: Gotham’s Gravity Gamble
Image
Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League picks up mere days after 2018’s Batman Ninja, flinging Gotham into a whirlwind of samurai swagger and street-level mayhem. When Damian Wayne’s phone blares an alert about an incoming “Yakuza Hurricane,” our attention snaps to the sky: an inverted Japan, suspended like a looming fortress above the city, spews jet-packed gangsters into alleyways below.

Junpei Mizusaki and Shinji Takagi co-direct with Kazuki Nakashima’s script guiding every eccentric twist. Their goal seems clear: crank anime-style spectacle to eleven while embracing the absurd. Batman and Robin pilot the Batwing through gravity-defying chases, punctuated by nonstop world-bending exposition that plays as both narrative engine and running joke.

Visually, the film marries traditional cel shading with bursts of 3D flair, pushing each showdown into kaleidoscopic territory. Dialogue hops between blunt humor—“This is so dumb”—and earnest appeals to honor, as when Gotham’s heroes struggle to redeem their twisted counterparts.

Features the voices of: Koichi Yamadera, Daisuke Ono, Akira Ishida, Kengo Kawanishi, Yuki Kaji, Romi Park, Akio Otsuka, Ayane Sakura, Rie Kugimiya, Wataru Takagi | Written by Kazuki Nakashima | Directed by Junpei Mizusaki, Shinji Takagi

Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League, a sequel to the 2018 cult hit Batman Ninja, is a film that revels in its own absurdity while delivering a heartfelt tribute to both anime conventions and the DC Universe. Directed by Junpei Mizusaki and Shinji Takagi, with a screenplay by Kazuki Nakashima, this animated superhero romp picks up a day after the events of Batman Ninja, plunging Batman and his allies into a multiversal mash-up that’s equal parts thrilling, ridiculously gorgeous and surprisingly poignant. This new film doubles down on the over-the-top nonsense of the original, offering a wild ride that’s as much a love letter to Japanese culture as it is a playful riff on the superhero genre.

Batman Ninja (2018)
Batman Ninja Vs Yakuza League | Here’s the trailer
Batman Ninja (2018)
The Batman Ninja anime series continues with Batman Ninja Vs Yakuza League – and here’s the first trailer for it.

It’s a truth universally agreed that Batman rocks. Likewise, ninjas. Therefore, 2018’s Batman Ninja was a perfect hybrid of two of pop culture’s finest creations. The Dark Knight has always been partly rooted in ninja lore, something Christopher Nolan in particular leaned into heavily in his film trilogy’s depiction of the League of Shadows.

However, 2018’s Batman Ninja fully dived into the connection between the two, with the Warner Bros Japan anime reimagining the Batman mythos as taking place in Feudal-era Japan. The film released theatrically in Japan and went to digital release in the United States and the UK. It received middling reviews but has apparently done well enough somewhere to warrant a sequel which will be arriving at an unspecified point in the future, as...

When Batman Ninja was first released, it was something that Batman fans had not seen before. The anime movie not only provided a different culturological interpretation of the Caped Crusader, it also provided us with a uniquely interesting film that completely shifted the perspective on DC Comics’ most popular character. The movie was originally released to praise and now, six years after the original, 2018 release of Batman Ninja, it has been confirmed that a sequel would be made, continuing the story of the first movie. The sequel is officially going to be titled Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League and will continue the story of Batman Ninja.

At this moment, information about the project is scarce and we only have an official logo for the movie and some casting information. This is a relatively new announcement, so we have not received too much information yet, but this will certainly change in the future.
