How Guillermo Del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth Inspired A Paramore Music Video
Image
"Well, she lives in a fairy tale," declares Hayley Williams in the opening lyric of "Brick by Boring Brick," a 2009 single by Paramore, initially released as part of their third album "Brand New Eyes." Williams continues belting out, "Somewhere too far for us to find, forgotten the taste and smell of a world that she's left behind."

As the song continues on for another four minutes, the fairy tale allusions continue; one of them is a title drop: "Well, make sure to build your home brick by-by boring brick, Or the wolf's gonna blow it down."

However, the opening verse establishes the song's key theme right off the bat: retreating into your imagination is like refusing to grow up. The Pov character realizes she must bury her childhood fantasies to escape her dream world. The song's music video reflects this, alternating in focus between Williams herself and a young girl...

James Pickens Jr., Ellen Pompeo, and Chandra Wilson in Grey's Anatomy: Die jungen Ärzte (2005)
The Top 13 ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Deaths Ranked
James Pickens Jr., Ellen Pompeo, and Chandra Wilson in Grey's Anatomy: Die jungen Ärzte (2005)
If there’s anyone that knows how to deliver a heart-wrenching death scene, it’s the team behind ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy.” Created by Shonda Rhimes, the broadcast medical drama came out of the gate in 2005 with literal life and death stakes for its characters. Being set in a hospital meant that mortality was a constant theme that touched the lives of every one who walked through the doors, be they of-the-week patients or support staff, or full-time cast members — no one is immune to the cold touch of death.

Now showrun by Krista Vernoff, “Grey’s Anatomy” has become the longest-running medical drama on television and, as such, the show has accumulated a record-high body count.

There have been quite a few of memorable ones that caused tears to be shed but not buckets to be cried. Those include Bonnie Crasnoff (Monica Keena), who was admitted after a train crash...

‘The Culling’ Review
Stars: Jeremy Sumpter, Elizabeth Di Prinzio, Brett Davern, Chris Coy, Linsey Godfrey, Virginia Williams, Johnathon Schaech, Harley Graham, Jennifer Bowman | Written and Directed by Rustam Branaman

After finding a little girl lost, a gang of college students on an extra-curricular roadtrip travel to the spooky old farmhouse near where she lives. After a friendly steak supper, there they are beset by paranormal forces, fighting off dark entities which threaten to consume the lot of them. Which makes a change from a psychopath and a chainsaw – the sort of thing one generally gets, hanging around in gloomy farmhouses in the middle of nowhere.

Rustam ‘briefly in Iron Man 3‘ Branaman’s second directorial feature, The Culling, opens in an entertaining enough manner (post chase sequence, in an odd, semi-cheesy YouTube collage sort of way) but quickly settles down into a familiar low-budget backwoods horror funk. By going with supernatural terrors instead of pissed-off hillbillies,...

'Paranormal Activity 3' Hits Theaters, Unveils New Clip
George A. Romero at an event for Land of the Dead (2005)
The third installment in the "Paranormal Activity" franchise creeps into theaters this weekend. To get you ready for supernatural chills, there's a sixth viral clip that's been released. "Catfish" directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman direct the film that finds a young Katie (from the first and second films), and her sister Kristi battling evil.

The newest clip shows more found footage, set at night in the bedroom. Paramount has stuck with their grassroots, viral marketing campaign for the film since Oren Peli's 2007 movie. Mysterious VHS tapes — simply labeled with the date, 1988 — were passed around to various websites, revealing similar found footage. See what terror this one contains by clicking right here.
