Twilight fans will soon be able to go back to where it all started thanks to Lego, as the company has officially unveiled the newest set in their Ideas line, Twilight: The Cullen House. Ambition outstrips expertise in writer-director Phil Blattenberger’s “Laws of Man,” whose serpentine plot winds up seeming a wild goose chase — one whose execution should have been, well, wilder. Action and atmosphere are too poorly supplied for this stab at a noirish retro thriller to emerge as anything but talky, awkward and unconvincing. Set in 1963, it takes a big narrative leap toward the end that suggests an intent closer to such willfully over-the-top Cold War paranoia fantasias as “Dr. Strangelove” and “Winter Kills.” But the satirical edge which might’ve pulled off that gambit is absent throughout, making for a whole that’s peculiar without ever being very engaging. While the series has unquestionable narrative flaws, the show shines because of the performances of The Perfect Couples A-list cast. The actors who portray the Winbury family do a great job of making their ridiculously wealthy characters unlikable and obnoxious. Twilight is getting a second (after)life in the form of an animated series at Netflix.

The streamer has given a straight-to-series order and begun development on a show based on Midnight Sun, author Stephenie Meyer’s companion novel to her mega-selling Twilight series. The book is a retelling of the events of Twilight from vampire Edward Cullen’s point of view; the main series is told from the perspective of Bella Swan, the human object of Edward’s fascination.

Lionsgate Television, which began early development on a Twilight TV project last year, will produce the series. Lionsgate’s film division released the four Twilight movies.

Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke has some thoughts on who would be cast as the main characters if the film were to be rebooted today.

During an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast to discuss the film 15 years after it originally came out, the filmmaker chimed in on who she’d want to play Edward Cullen and Bella Swan in a film today.

When asked if Jacob Elordi and Jenna Ortega would portray the two main characters, Hardwicke admitted, “Oh, that would be perfect,” she said, adding of Elordi, “I mean, he’s amazing. He probably would be Edward today.”

She explained that so many people come to mind when she thinks about who could be cast in the roles in the present day. Model Lewis Tan approached her recently and told her he went out for the role of Jacob Black, which eventually went to Taylor Lautner.
