Never Let Go
Image
The mental-health horror trend that’s been growing in recent years may be one of the most interesting, terrifying sub-genres around: if the real monsters are in your head, how can you protect your loved ones from them? The Babadook or Take Shelter mined such an idea for nearly unbearable tension; the latest from Alexandre Aja almost pulls off the same trick. Are we watching a tale of survival in a post-apocalyptic nightmare world, or two isolated children struggling with a mother they can’t trust?

Halle Berry plays Momma, a tough-as-nails survivor who’s holed up in a remote cabin in the woods with her twin sons Samuel (Anthony B. Jenkins) and Nolan (Percy Daggs IV). The boys nearly worship her, but her insistence that they must always remain physically tied with rope to their house is becoming restrictive as the boys get older, and her insistence on protective rhymes and rules seems eccentric.

Never Let Go’ Director Unravels Film’s Enigmatic Ending
Halle Berry, Anthony B. Jenkins, and Percy Daggs IV in Never Let Go - Lass niemals los (2024)
Film director Alexandra Aja recently provided insight into the ambiguous ending of his latest psychological thriller, “Never Let Go.” The movie tells the story of a mother and her twin sons living in isolation to escape a mysterious threat. In interviews, Aja addressed viewer questions about the fate of the brother characters and themes explored in the film.

“Never Let Go” follows the mother and twins, Sam and Nolan, hiding in a remote cabin from an entity called the Evil. At the end, viewers are left unsure if the Evil is real or a manifestation of the mother’s mental health issues. Aja said there are “multiple interpretations” possible due to the film’s complex layers.

Regarding the brothers, Aja confirmed that Sam remains under the influence of the darkness at the end. In the final scene, Sam says “He loves me,” suggesting the character did not overcome the trauma like his brother.

Never Let Go Ending: Sam's Polaroid, The Evil & Twins' Fate Explained By Horror Director
Image
The Never Let Go director addresses many big questions about the horror movie's ending. The film follows a mother and her twins who confine themselves in a cabin to protect themselves against an entity called the Evil, with the rope as their only means to keep them safe. However, as the story progresses, there is growing skepticism about whether the Evil even exists or if Momma (Halle Berry) is making it all up. Even with the tragic Never Let Go ending, there are some unanswered questions, such as what the figure is in the Polaroid.

With the movie now out in theaters, director Alexandra Aja answered several big questions about the ending. In an interview with Gizmodo, the filmmaker explained the final scene, when Sam says the final line in the movie. He elaborated that Sam indeed says the line "he loves me," indicating that he still has the darkness that also affected his mother,...

Warning! The Following Contains Spoilers for Never Let Go."It was hard for all of us," Halle Berry admits. The Hollywood heavyweight is referring to a very specific moment from her new film: Fans could have heard a pin drop when Momma (Berry) reveals that the family dog needs to be sacrificed to provide food for her boys Nolan (Percy Daggs IV) and Samuel (Anthony B. Jenkins) in the horrific new survival thriller Never Let Go. While promoting the movie at this years Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas, an attendee thanked director Alexandre Aja for not killing the poor pup, to which the filmmaker replied during the Q&a (per Entertainment Weekly):

Alexandre Aja teases Crawl 2, remembers Tarantino’s love for the original
Image
It’s not often that Quentin Tarantino comments on new films, more or less for the reason that he doesn’t want to slam someone who is actively creating art. If he disses one, that could spell the end of that movie – and its director – before it had a chance. So when he does talk about a new release, it’s usually only positive. And that’s just what happened with Alexandre Aja’s killer alligator movie Crawl, which he didn’t just love but named one of his favorite movies of 2019.

That Tarantino loved Crawl was just the sort of boost Aja needed. As he told The Hollywood Reporter, “It was such a nice surprise. I was really, really excited. I’ve met with Quentin a few times, and one of the times, we had dinner together in Paris right before I was going to make Piranha 3D. So...

Does Never Let Go Have A Post-Credits Scene?
Image
Alexandre Aja's latest thriller Never Let Go features Halle Berry's return to horror and an ending that leaves the door open for further exploration of the narrative, which has audiences asking whether there is a post-credits scene or not. Halle Berry's character, known only as Momma, and her sons are trapped in their isolated house in the woods by a shape-shifting evil that only she can see. By the ending of Never Let Go, the supernatural horror film establishes that the unseen evil that Momma attempts to shield her sons from is more mysterious than she's let on.

The supernatural thriller is driven by her sons, played by newcomers Percy Daggs IV and Anthony B. Jenkins, questioning her motivations as they slowly starve under her roof and her rules. Reviews for Never Let Go have been mostly mixed, although it is still on pace to post the highest...

‘Never Let Go’ Director Alexandre Aja Breaks Down That Shocking Twist
Image
“Never Let Go” is finally here.

And the new supernatural thriller from French filmmaker Alexandre Aja is built around an ingenious concept: a woman (Halle Berry) and her two children (Percy Daggs IV and Anthony B. Jenkins) live alone in a cabin deep in the woods. According to her, a malevolent presence haunts the woods and society has fallen as a result of it. She makes a series of rules for their survival, like being tethered to the house by a rope at all times.

But is she nuts? Or are these really these things out there?

That is something that is played with for much of the movie’s runtime. And it leads to one of the more shocking moments of the film. TheWrap spoke to director Aja about this moment.

Major spoiler warning. Seriously. Turn back now and return to this article after you’ve watched (you don...

Sequel To Sam Raimi-Produced Alligator Horror Movie With 84% Rt Score Gets Encouraging Filming Update From Director
Image
Following the surprise announcement of its development, Alexandre Aja has a promising update on Crawl 2's filming timeline. Aja helmed the original 2019 horror movie and produced it alongside Evil Dead creator Sam Raimi, with the movie centering on Kaya Scodelario's Haley as she and her estranged father became trapped in their old family home during a Category 5 hurricane with alligators swarming in to attack. Crawl saw largely positive reviews from critics, holding an 84% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and was a box office sleeper hit, grossing $91 million against its reported $15 million production budget.

During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter for the Halle Berry-led horror movie Never Let Go, Aja was asked about progress on Crawl 2's development. The producer/director started off by recalling how he "never really stopped working on Crawl", having continued to formulate ideas for how to make a sequel to his original...

Crawl 2 Director Teases 'Something Different' in the Gator Movie Sequel
Image
We spoke with filmmaker Alexandre Aja leading up to the release of Never Let Go, his 10th film to date and counting. It stars Halle Berry, and just like past hits The Hills Have Eyes and Crawl, it brings the scares. And speaking of Crawl, Aja will helm a highly anticipated sequel, about which he shared briefly to MovieWeb.

"I'm really excited to go back into the Crawl universe. I mean, it's a weird thing when I make movies, even when they are finished, I keep thinking about them," he said.

"They are finished and over, but because of all the storm and all the hurricane happening and all the craziness happening around the world, every time I see a picture, like, I set up... a new scene that we could create that would be very interesting and scary. And so to have the opportunity of going back there, it's going to be something different.

‘Never Let Go’ Director Alexandre Aja Talks Halle Berry, ‘Crawl 2’ and Tarantino’s Love of ‘Crawl’
Image
Since 2019, French filmmaker Alexandre Aja has received the best reviews of his career for a trio of genre films that include Crawl, Oxygen and his latest release, Never Let Go. Led by Halle Berry, the survival horror-thriller chronicles Berry’s single mother, “Momma,” as she looks after her fraternal twin boys in a seemingly post-apocalyptic world. The family resides in a remote cabin, and if they want to venture outside to find food and sustenance, they have to be tethered by rope so that an evil force can’t possess them in order to kill them off.

As expected, the Oscar-winning Berry gives yet another compelling performance, but arguably her most valuable contribution came as a producer. Knowing that the movie’s success hinged on whether they could find the right young actors to surround Momma, Berry insisted that the Never Let Go team leave no stone unturned en route...

Never Let Go Review: Halle Berry Lends Her Oscar-Winning Bonafides to Post-Apocalyptic Thriller
Image
A founding member of the “New Extremity” movement that brought French horror filmmakers to the attention of international audiences in the early oughts, writer-director Alexandre Aja parlayed his fearless, uncompromising approach to the horror genre into a filmmaking career into an international career outside of his native France. Beginning with a promising collaboration with Wes Craven, the 1976 remake of The Hills Have Eyes, through middling efforts and the one-off standout, Piranha 3D, Aja overcame mid-career stagnancy with Crawl, a bloody, gory, pulpy “animals amok” eco-horror. Aja’s latest horror film, Never Let Go, shifts the setting from the alligator-filled, riverside Florida town of Crawl or the terrors of outer space in Aja’s last film, Oxygen, to a post-apocalyptic forest somewhere in the...

Halle Berry Was the Key to Alexandre Aja's New Fairy Tale Horror
Image
Horror filmmaker Alexandre Aja made an infamous name for himself at midnight festival screenings of High Tension, his praised entry into the slasher genre. Since then, Aja has been a wildly prolific director and producer with cult favorites The Hills Have Eyes, Horns, Piranha 3D, and Crawl. Now, he's dipping his toes into the Gothic tradition with his new psychological (or perhaps supernatural) survival horror film, Never Let Go, starring Halle Berry.

Never Let Go Ending Explained
Image
Warning: Major spoilers for Never Let Go ahead

Alexandre Aja's latest horror thriller Never Let Go marks Halle Berry's return to horror, and pits her and her two young sons against a post-apocalyptic evil that keeps them trapped in their house. Never Let Go is now showing in theaters nationwide, and features an anxiety-inducing story that keeps the audience engrossed with its ambiguity and an unreliable narrator. Reviews have been largely mixed, but so far Never Let Go has given Halle Berry her highest Rotten Tomatoes score in over five years.

Set in a forest that is oppressive in its tangles of trees and vines, Never Let Go stars Halle Berry as a character only recognized as Momma by her two young sons, played by newcomers Percy Daggs IV and Anthony B. Jenkins. The three are isolated in their home in the woods after, as Momma describes it,...

Never Let Go Review: Halle Berry returns to horror!
Image
Plot: A mother (Halle Berry) and her twin sons (Percy Daggs IV and Anthony B. Jenkins) are tormented by a malicious spirit. They can only survive if they remain connected to their home, a remote cabin in the woods. But when one of the sons starts to question whether or not the evil really exists, the family finds itself in greater danger than ever.

Review: Alexandre Aja has easily established himself as one of the most unique voices in horror, famously willing to try his hand at just about every aspect of the genre. He’s made hardcore horror (High Tension), funny horror (Piranha 3D), contained horror (Crawl – which is getting a sequel) and even romantic horror (Horns). With Never Let Go, he dips his toe into the elevated facet of the genre, weaving a highly allegorical yarn that ties in themes of motherhood, brotherhood, repressed trauma, and more.

As such,...

Never Let Go Allowed Halle Berry the Space for Something a Little Different in Horror

Academy Award-winner Halle Berry has been entertaining the world for years. She's dutifully upstaged James Bond, Fred Flintstone, and - as of a couple of years ago - the Moon. Alexandre Aja's unique, horrific direction brought audiences killer gators in claustrophobic spaces, mutant hill people, and Daniel Radcliffe with a pair of horns growing from his head. Now, Berry and Aja have teamed up to terrify theaters once more with their new survival horror thriller, Never Let Go.

The Five Scariest Moments of Alexandre Aja’s Filmography
Image
Alexandre Aja is one of those filmmakers whose work I’ll always sit up and pay attention to. It’s because the man has consistently created horror movies that have scared, fascinated, and downright pissed me off as a human being. He’s provocative, in all the right ways.

So, with Alexandre Aja’s latest horror movie Never Let Go releasing in theaters this week, we thought we would take a look back at his five most haunting horror movie moments.

Double Entendre – High Tension (2003)

Mere minutes into Aja’s second feature film, we’re smacked in the head with a horrid act that will set the tone for things to come. With almost nothing about the plot being divulged yet, the camera pans over and into a field where a vehicle reminiscent of the creepy truck from Jeepers Creepers sits on a dirt road. We see the truck moving...

Image
Never Let Go is a new horror thriller starring Academy Award Winner Halle Berry. The story is set in the woods, where Berrys character lives in a secluded cabin with her two sons. ‘Never Let Go’ – Alexandre Aja Discusses the Film’s Fairy Tale Influences [Interview]
Image
Director Alexandre Aja has certainly made his mark on the horror genre over the past 20 years. After bursting onto the scene in 2003 with the controversial High Tension, he weaved his way through American genre films with the remake of Wes Craven’s The Hills Have Eyes, the remake of Into the Mirror, the remake of Joe Dante’s Piranha, the adaptation of Joe Hill’s Horns, and the creature feature Crawl. Now, he’s unleashing his latest film Never Let Go, a mature fairy tale that sends him back into a world similar to the one he built in Horns eleven years ago.

Never Let Go, in theaters on Friday, stars Halle Berry, Percy Daggs IV and Anthony B. Jenkins.

Berry plays June, “known simply as Momma to her fraternal twin sons, Samuel (Anthony B. Jenkins) and Nolan (Percy Daggs IV). After an entity she calls ‘the Evil’ took over the world,...

Never Let Go: We Interview Halle Berry, Alexandre Aja and more!
Halle Berry, Anthony B. Jenkins, and Percy Daggs IV in Never Let Go - Lass niemals los (2024)
Never Let Go is definitely one of the most highly anticipated genre movies of the fall season. The latest from Alexandre Aja features Halle Barry, Anthony B. Jenkins, and Percy Daggs IV is one that resonated with me big time. In it, a mother and her children are tormented by a malicious spirit which keeps them, literally, tied to the foundations of their home. At its heart, it has an amazing performance from star Halle Berry, who grounds the horror somewhat. The sweet and loving nature of her relationship with her children is beautifully played out. But, it also has plenty of horror elements baked in, which show off Aja’s amazing talent for the genre in a big way. Recently, I had the chance to interview Berry, Jenkins, and Daggs, and I found it to be an utterly charming experience.

First off, I’ve never had the chance to talk to Ms.

‘Never Let Go’ Review – Alexandre Aja’s Lean Bedtime Story Has Sharp Teeth
Image
Director Alexandre Aja continues his recent streak of helming self-contained horror, shifting from the claustrophobic confines of space in Oxygen and the flooding Florida house in Crawl to a rundown cabin in the woods with his latest, Never Let Go. Its simple setup and fairy tale qualities feel familiar, with inevitable comparisons drawn to Bird Box due to the title’s meaning. While it is lean in plotting, Never Let Go becomes a vicious little bedtime story with sharp teeth in Aja’s hands, one that refreshingly doesn’t handhold.

Never Let Go introduces a small family of three deep into their self-imposed isolation in the woods. Under the strict rules of Momma (Halle Berry), siblings Samuel and Nolan (Percy Daggs IV) spend their days venturing out to forage for food while tethered to ropes. The rope is key: there’s an evil lurking in the forest that only Momma can see,...

Never Let Go Review: Halle Berry Leads Alexandre Aja's Creepy Fractured Fairytale
Image
Once upon a time, there was a filmmaker named Alexandre Aja. His career was fascinating in the way it wasn't strictly auteurist, for while every director has their unique stylistic tics and proclivities, not everyone has a distinctive, strong signature. Aja has certainly always been a genre filmmaker, one who's interested in subversion and twists, in playing around with the conventions of genre, and in being unafraid to use audience's sympathies against them. Whether it's been in the brutal, New French Extremity slashers of "High Tension" and "The Hills Have Eyes," the gleefully exploitative "Piranha 3D," the literary roots of "Horns" and "The 9th Life of Louis Drax," or the suspense exercises of "Crawl" and "Oxygen," Aja has always found ways to surprise and upset (in every sense of the word) with his films.

All this is to say that, in the case of Aja's latest film, "Never Let Go,...

‘Never Let Go’ Review: Halle Berry Rolls Out the Unwelcome Mat to Evil Spirits in Creepy Horror Flick
Image
“Never Let Go” isn’t interested in reinventing familiar formulas when it comes to its unsettling spin on sinister spirits visiting a secluded cabin in the woods. With its inclusion of a protective mother and her two young kids attempting to escape an evil entity plaguing their world, it’s also unafraid to invite minor comparisons to “Bird Box.” Still, director Alexandre Aja’s psychologically taut feature blazes its own trail, dropping us into the middle of one family’s ghastly, worsening crisis, craftily drawing its scares from their interpersonal and intrapersonal strife. Though not all of its clever ideas come together efficiently in the finale, its thematic ruminations on grief, sanity, rebellion and redemption are intrinsically intertwined to harrowing, claustrophobic effect, heightening the hallucinatory horrors and dread-soaked atmospheric pull.

Momma (Halle Berry) has kept her young fraternal twins Samuel (Anthony B. Jenkins) and Nolan (Percy Daggs IV) hidden away in her parents’ remote,...

‘Never Let Go’ Review | Halle Berry Terrifies, but This Horror Movie Grasps at Straws
Image
Imagine if Halle Berry told you the world just ended, and now you have to live out in the woods. Also you have to stay in Halle Berry’s house or else an evil force will get you. Also if you do leave, you have to be tied to Halle Berry’s house by a rope or else — again — the evil will get you. Also only Halle Berry can see the evil. Oh, and the protective power of Halle Berry’s house has to be recharged like a battery, and recharged with your love, so she’s going to have to repeatedly lock you in the cellar with the lights off until you give off the right vibes.

That’s the premise of Alexandre Aja’s horror thriller “Never Let Go,” and if you think about it, it’s a pretty kooky way to tell a story about faith. Scary...

‘Never Let Go’ Review: Halle Berry Hangs On For Dear Life In Gripping Psychological Horror Thriller
Image
French director Alexandre Aja has been known as a member of the horror helming fraternity called the “Splat Pack,” named for the extreme violence in their films. Certainly, many of his pictures, from the 2003 breakthrough Haute Tension and the 2006 remake of The Hills Have Eyes, to his exceptional, and most successful film to date, 2019’s Crawl — in which a family is trapped in the crawl space of their home as alligators surround them during a Category 5 hurricane in Florida (a personal favorite of Quentin Tarantino) — have proved his chops as a genre filmmaker. Now, he steps up to another level with a less gory and more psychological thriller style of film, Never Let Go, in which Halle Berry stars as a mother of twin boys who is traumatically haunted by her own lifelong demons, which she passes on to them in their remote house deep in the woods.

Working from...

‘Never Let Go’ Review: Halle Berry Protects Her Sons from Invisible Evils in Horror Flick About the Contradictions of Parenthood
Image
For many parents, convincing children to listen to your hard-won wisdom and avoid making the same mistakes for themselves is a daunting challenge. Adults are placed in charge of the world because they’ve lived long enough to experience its dangers firsthand, but each new generation is born convinced that no harm could possibly come from playing with those matches or staying out past that curfew. The contradictory desire to shield our offspring from the traumas that shaped us while allowing them enough independence to become fully fledged adults is often one of the defining questions of parenthood.

Alexandre Aja’s “Never Let Go” illustrates that age-old parenting challenge with a very literal metaphor. A woman known only as Mama (Halle Berry) lives with her sons Samuel (Anthony B. Jenkins) and Nolan (Percy Daggs IV) in a remote forest cabin where mere survival is an all-encompassing task. Years have gone...

Splat Pack veteran Alexandre Aja tries his hand at family-in-peril horror along the lines of the Quiet Place franchise with Never Let Go. But mostly, the French director just succeeds in making us miss his entertainingly trashy swerves into B-movie pulp, with creature features built around ravenously bitey carnivorous fish (Piranha 3D) or giant Florida gators riled up by a hurricane and flood (Crawl). Whatever their strengths and weaknesses, those movies were fun popcorn entertainment with teeth. Fun is banished from Aja’s latest, which starts out mildly intriguing and chalks up a few bracing jump scares before running out of juice.

Part of the problem with Kc Coughlin and Ryan Grassby’s feeble screenplay is the laboriousness of its setup. Halle Berry plays a woman, initially identified only as Momma, living in woodlands isolation in an old timber family home with her preteen nonidentical twin sons, Samuel (Anthony B. Jenkins...

Halle Berry Dives Into The Philosophical Questions Of Never Let Go's Horror
Image
Never Let Go is a post-apocalyptic horror movie that centers on a mother and two sons who live in a cabin in the woods. The family has been haunted by an evil spirit for years, finding sanctuary only in their home and each other. However, when one of the brothers begins to question the existence of the evil a terrifying fight to survive ensues after the family's bond is broken.

Halle Berry delivers a haunting performance, becoming more intense and menacing as the movie plays out. Percy Daggs IV and Anthony B. Jenkins are brilliant as her twin sons who begin to question the reality of their world. Alexandre Aja brings his directorial expertise to Never Let Go as the tension and horror escalate with the question of whether the evil is real or in the mother's head permeating the entire movie

Crawl 2 Director Alexandre Aja Reveals Plans for the Horror Movie Sequel
Image
Alexandre Aja, the director behind the 2019 horror movie hit Crawl, has now revealed details of the highly-anticipated sequel, unofficially titled Crawl 2. The filmmaker says he already has a few sketches and plans in place for the film - not because it has been required from him - but because he hasnt stopped thinking about Crawl 2 since the first film opened and he got to see it on the big screen for the first time. Now, speaking to Cinemablend, Aja revealed details of the next chapter in this saga of alligators preying on innocent victims during the hurricane season. He's been working on the sequel in his head ever since the first outing was released, and teases a new location and even a new natural disaster...

There [are] so many things that I felt could be more developed. I have this thing: when I finish a movie, somehow I keep, in a weird way,...

The Correct Order To Watch The Hills Have Eyes Franchise
Image
Wes Craven's 1977 film "The Hills Have Eyes," like Tobe Hooper's "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre" before it, features a vanload of city folks who find themselves waylaid in a forgotten corner of the American wasteland. In Craven's film, the wasteland is not rural Texas, but the irradiated deserts of Nevada. The protagonists (Dee Wallace is among them) are beset by the brood of the sadistic Papa Jupiter (James Whitworth), including Mars (Lance Gordon), Mercury (Arthur King), and Pluto (Michael Berryman). Years ago, Jupiter moved into the hills with his wife (Cordy Clark) and raised their children to attack and cannibalize passers-through in order to survive. "The Hills Have Eyes" is raw and brutal, but possessed of a winking sense of humor that horror fans will appreciate.

The original film only cost about $700,000 to make (although the actual budget isn't very well recorded), yet it went on to make over $25 million,...

The Hills Have Eyes 2 (2007) Revisited – Horror Movie Review
Image
The Hills Have Eyes 2. No, not that one. That’s The Hills Have Eyes Part 2 and has one of the greatest things ever filmed where a dog, an actual dog, has a flashback and its just, muah, chef’s kiss. While I actually think that original 1985 sequel is way too much fun for its own good – it was written and directed by Craven, brings back Michael Berryman, has Harry Manfredini give us the score, and oh yeah, has a dog flashback. A Dog, Flashback – I’m not here to talk about that one that is probably so bad it’s good. I’m here to discuss the true black sheep of this inbred mountain family and give you all a look at the movie that is not a remake of the sequel but rather a sequel to the remake. The Hills Have Eyes 2 (watch it Here) is a...

Halle Berry Learned How to Skin Squirrels for Spooky ‘Never Let Go’
Image
Halle Berry can’t let go of psychological thrillers.

The Oscar winner turned up in Las Vegas on Wednesday during Lionsgate’s studio presentation to promote its new film, Alexandre Aja’s Never Let Go, which brings Berry back into a genre she explored more than 20 years ago, in earlier work like Gothika. But this one pushed her to new limits.

Set for release on Sept. 27, Never Let Go centers on a mother and her twin sons as they try to protect themselves from evil lurking in and around their home. Needing to stay connected at all times — always by a connection of ropes — they hold tight to one another and never let go. However, one of the boys questions if the evil is real, triggering a terrifying fight for survival. Anthony B. Jenkins, Percy Daggs, Matthew Kevin Anderson, Christin Park and Stephanie Lavigne also star.

Aja directed from a...

Never Let Go: Halle Berry / Alexandre Aja horror film gets a teaser poster and trailer description
Image
Update: A trailer for Never Let Go was shown during the Lionsgate panel at CinemaCon today, and JoBlo’s own Lance Vlcek was in attendance. Here’s a description of what he saw: “Halle Berry and her two kids are living in a cabin after the world ends. This cabin has a rope/pulley system & they must be attached to you when leaving the house. The monsters/entities (they are very vague on what the threat is but its something that is physical) can’t get you with the rope attached to you and so they (monsters?) are trying to convince one child to doubt the rope safety. They want them to detach and if so, we see that it would put them in grave danger. The kids are twins born in a house that they have never left because of the dangers on the outside. The creatures (which you...

Bill Skarsgård and FKA twigs in The Crow (2024)
Saw XI, The Crow both delayed
Bill Skarsgård and FKA twigs in The Crow (2024)
Lionsgate delays two of its big release: The Crow remake is still arriving this year, but Saw XI no longer is. More here.

Lionsgate has delayed two of its planned releases, pushing both The Crow and Saw XI out of their respective release slots and further down the line.

Saw XI has been delayed for a full year, with the film being pushed from September 2024 all the way back to September 2025. Given that the project only confirmed that Saw X's Kevin Greutert was returning as director back in February, this one is clearly still in development mode. We haven’t heard any casting news yet, meaning that September release date was simply not doable, especially given that its predecessor, Saw X picked up pretty good reviews.

With the long-running horror series once again on the rise, Lionsgate won’t want to rush out a sequel and damage the series’ newfound momentum.

Academy Award winner Halle Berry is leading the film’s cast.

‘Diarra From Detroit’ Is a Murder Mystery, a Romance, a Comedy — and a Star-Making Showcase
Image
Diarra From Detroit is, at various points, a hard-boiled mystery, a quarter-life crisis comedy, a complicated love triangle (that’s occasionally a quadrangle), and an ensemble hangout show about a group of longtime friends. Some of these elements in theory make sense together — though in theory they should not all fit within the same series. But the reason Diarra, which debuted last week on the BET+ streaming service, is among this year’s most pleasant TV surprises is how much it all makes sense when you watch it.

Diarra Kilpatrick...

‘Night of the Hunted’ Trailer – ‘Maniac’ Remake Director Returns With Intense Survival Horror Movie
Image
Franck Khalfoun, the French filmmaker behind P2 and Maniac (2012), returns this Halloween season with Night of the Hunted, a new survival horror movie on the way from Shudder.

The film just had its world premiere at Beyond Fest 2023 and will stream exclusively on Shudder next Friday, October 20. Watch the official trailer down below.

Set in the American west, Night of the Hunted follows Alice, played by Camilla Rowe, as a road trip turns into a fight for her life when a vengeful sniper targets her and traps her in a remote, isolated gas station. “An indictment of modern polarized politics, the film is a tight but brutal single-location thriller,” Shudder previews in the official press release.

Night of the Hunted is produced by Alexandre Aja, serving as the 3rd collaboration between Aja and director Franck Khalfoun.

Franck Khalfoun and Glen Freyer wrote the screenplay.

Willam's comeback "Your Tone Seems Very Pointed Right Now" shook Phi Phi O'Hara and the entire Drag Race fandom. Shangela's iconic speech "I Don't Have A Sugar Daddy" vs. Mimi Imfurst reset the drag community and solidified her status as an iconic contestant.

Over the years, RuPaul's Drag Race has evolved from a small series into a global phenomenon, and dozens of quotes have gone down in herstory. Since the premiere of RuPaul's successful franchise in 2009, Rpdr has grown to culturally impact society, thanks to the mix of drama, entertainment, education, and acceptance. Uzumaki trailer released for Toonami’s adaptation of Junji Ito horror manga
Image
Back in 2019, it was announced that Adult Swim‘s Toonami was teaming up with Production I.G. for a four part animated mini-series adaptation of Junji Ito’s horror manga Uzumaki – an animated mini-series that would be presented in black and white, just like the manga source material. A couple years later, a teaser trailer arrived online… and then it was said that the premiere of the show had been delayed so director Hiroshi Nagahama and the production team could have more time to “replicate the quality of the intricate designs and detailed line work of Mr. Ito’s classic manga”. Uzumaki still doesn’t have a premiere date, but a trailer for the mini-series has been released, and you can check it out in the embed above.

Scripted by Aki Itami, the mini-series will tell the following story: Kurozu-cho, a small fog-bound town on the coast of Japan, is cursed.
